A prolonged heatwave was occuring across England with temperatures over 34c in parts over 5 consecutive days by the end of the 11th. This came with very high humidity and a warm layer above holding a build up of unstable energy under a lid. This risked leading to a loaded gun scenario, with explosive and potentially severe thunderstorms expected should the lid be broken. After chasing storms across North Staffordshire and East Cheshire my focus became further east in the direction of the western side of the Peak District, where storm activity was rapidly increasing.
