Was at this match and for the first 45 minutes luton town battered us, nwaijobi and ricky hill were causing chaos, mick harford was puttin himself about as per and brian stein was his usual classy self, good team then luton, first division was the best league in the world then...kev sheedy wasnt havin the best of games..but , when the chips were down he came good...i'll never EVER forget that moment he scored...i was at the back in opposite end, and ended up at the front coz we all went bananas 🤣....what great great times for a 17 yr old lad 🍻
It was a case of us being a little complacent at the time, we thought we'd just turn luton over but for the first hour they steamrollered us. Obviously over the moon we scrrrrraped thru'....but luton and theyre fans have a right to feel agrieved....i actually think theyd have beaten utd in the final as they'd have had rest...we didnt...few days after a huge game in holland....what a scandalous zrrangement...2 finals in 4 days.. i'll bet ANYTHING....if it were utd goung for the treble the game would 110% have been put back one week....shame...as we were the best team in the world at the time.. 🍻
Yes, it's a fine save by Sealey as is the one at 02:50 but for me the stop at 03:30 defies belief. It's a low, hard shot, he's completely unsighted and leaning slightly the other way when it's hit. Well played Neville Southall.
I dont think it was jammy, it was more determination...luton were excellent though and i honestly believed they would have beaten utd in the final....nwajobi ran riot for the first 40 minutes, hill was his usual class as was stein plus mick harford, a dirty bastard but good old fashioned centre forward caused all sorts of probs'.... hard to look at how shit everton and luton were allowed to get from these great teams to the dross we've BOTH had to watch for years....luton were so good in this game though....almost a 10/10 balls out performance.
Everton were an oddball team in cup semi finals in the 80s. They played in five, the first as a struggling team who put in a performance far better than their league form and yet somehow lost. And then played four more as one of the best teams in the land in which they performed far below their league form each team and yet somehow squeezed through by the odd goal each time. Oh yes...i remember it well .........🤜🤕🤛...had a few skirmishes meself n i was only 17...remember mouthin off at tottenham thinkin i was 'ard'...then this 10 foot tall bla•k lad walked up..Ooh sed tha'..shit me keks and stepped back into our mob 🤣😂...but it was a good life 🤣😂
Steven's was fouled in the lead up to Hills goal. From the second half we were by far the better side. We started slowly only because we happened to have had a semi final for the ECWC in Germany against Bayern on the Wednesday evening. What a side we had, thanks Howard.
They were in the first half, i was at that game and luton battered us, they just couldnt hold out, they had a good team then with great individuals, ricky hill had class, nwaijobi just lacked the ultimate killer finish but f•ck me he was dangerous 🥵
