This is awesome. I’ve been thinking of doing this BUT putting it on my old Ram 3500(95) frame so that I can keep/use the Cummins in it. I never use either truck so it’s a project I’ve been thinking of doing.
Hello Mick, and thank you very much for the inquiry. It now has a three piece driveshaft using two hanger bearings. I got very lucky when I put this together, I had an extra cab 2 Wheel Dr. pre-runner Tacoma laying around and I just removed the first part of the drive shaft from it and it’s crossmember with hanger bearing and it happened to fit exactly where I needed to be in this stretched out frame. In fact, other than welding and some metal tubing to reinforce the frame internally, everything else is a factory Toyota piece that was used from some other version of Tacoma to put it all together. There was nothing required by a machine shop.
Love it! I just got my 04 4 door and am saving to stretch to a 6' bed. If that was the only mod and the 6' bed was provided, what would you charge for installation, drive line, brakes, electrical, etc? and how long would you guess it would take? I am very interested in getting this project going and looking for potential shops to do the work. thanks, Dan
Hello Daniel. I'll have to think it over and figure out how much work it's going to take. I'm actually planning on doing my other 01 4Dr. Tacoma with just a 6ft. bed this summer. So if I get to it soon, I'll know exactly what it will take. I'm going to go a little farther by adding step side fenders and turning it into a dually, but the initial stretch and bed install will be the same. I'm anticipating $2000 should do it if I'm not supplying the box.

Hello David and thank you for the interest. We are now in the process of installing the VW Diesel engine into it, and twin sunroofs. By the time it is complete I fear the price will be beyond what anyone would be expecting. P.S. If anyone is looking to copy this idea, I would highly recommend using 2 quad-cabs and end up with a 6 door. It would allow much easier access to the rear compartment, and only add 5 more inches to the vehicle. Cheers S.C.Lawrence
