About cultures. Samogitians and Aukstatians were two ethnic groups which later formed the Lithuanian nation. Kashubians were slavic Pomeranians, in West Pomerania they were germanised until 20th century, but in areas west of Gdańsk they are small minority to this day. In Prussia the Old Prussians were mixed with German and Polish settlers, they had been germanised until 17th century. In 1337 there was almost no difference between Poles and Silesians, Silesian identity formed through centuries of isolation from Poland. In this time Masovians were more different from Poles than Silesians. This culture in Russia is probably Severian.

Resident Samogitian here, Aukstaitian and Samogitian are 2 main cultures of 4 (technically 5) in Lithuania, and you are right its based a bit on religion, but primarily culture and history & geography, Samogitia initially developed seperately as it was it's own baltic tribe but very closely related to the lithuanians (more so than any of the other tribes) so it is marked as Lithuania in tribal maps. It was often used as a bargaining chip with the teutons and the like which has caused some animosity for us against the Aukstaiciai historically. I could tell me but I am afraid of rambling. Aukštaitja means the high hill, Žemaitija the low hill (hard to translate, as I know there is a ebtter word for both in english), they are seperated by the middle Lithuania basin of the Nevežis river which forms the higher elevation areas being Žemaitija and Aukštaitija forming the regions and cultural identity of these areas("highest" point in lithuania is like 300m :D) This is from the baltic tribal federation times that turns into what we call Lithuania as we know, there are massive language differences, as samogitian is officially a dialect but effectivelly its own language (there are movements and research being done as we speak, that might officially designate it as a language fully).

Actually for the Plague in Eastern Europe, it *should* affect it WAY less than Western Europe, due to lower population and way lower population density. It was actually pretty close to what happened IRL, as Poland, Lithuania and Milan were the only major places not massively affected by the Black Death

Aukštaitija (The name in lithuanian) and Aukstaitians means inhabitants of the Highlands of Lithuania, Aukštaitija sometimes called The Real Lithuania because in that part started Lithuania and they just conquered another tribes like Yotvingians, Sudovians etc. until this day we have region called Aukštaitija. Aukštaitija is so called because it is located higher than the other large region of Lithuania - Žemaitija (In English Samogitia). Also Aukštaitija was called land of the Lithuanian king or duke.

I really hope there will be a way to revive paganism throughout the Baltics and maybe even eastern and northern Europe as Lithuania, it would also be really cool to be able to revive the native duchies of Zemgale, Kurzeme, Latgale or simply Latvia as a whole as the last "king" of the Semigallians Namejs or Nameisis died only 56 years before the start date, which doesn't leave enough time for the idea of a seperate native baltic state to be eradicated, but does leave enough time for some ambitious Baltic kid to decide to call himself a descendant of Namejs and use that as a casus belli to take power in Zemgale (I am using the Latvian names of Kurzeme and Zemgale to differentiate them from the later german dominated duchy of courland and semigallia) Referring to the religious map mode, I don't think that that much of the livonian order would be christian at the start date since christianity was mostly truly practiced by the German nobles, and according to Janīne Kursīte "Latvian gods and spirits" a vast amount of people (native balts) up until the late 18th century were nominally christian, that is to say they acted christian in public, but in private they practiced paganism.

Me as Rusyn living in Slovakia first campaing will be one culture world conquest

I really like to see how many different trade goods there are. I always play EU4 with 'trade goods expanded' mod that not only adds many more goods, but also allows you to build buildings that change the tradegood of a province (i.e. timber => furniture), making playing tall much more interesting. Perhaps it's not fitting well into the (early) medieval but I would love a more sophisticated economic system that allows you, for example, to produce bronce if you can access copper and tin in order to use the bronce for cannons. Staying with this example, it would push you towards developing your mines (and defending them) in order to keep your armies supplied. Also love to see Slovakia being full of metals, the Fuggers made a fortune from mining development later in the area and Banska Stiavnice (Schmenitz in German) was a major mining city in the medieval and the centuries after. It was the first place there gunpowder was used in continental Europe. Mining also was introduced mostly by Germans, maybe some events reflecting that would be interesting. The maintainance system for building looks very interesting and maybe, this is a good base to implement some manufacturies? Like using amber to produce juwelry, etc. I also really like the Silesia thing, it always annoyed me that Silesian was a slavic culture, that simply didn't reflect rather complicated history (am East German and speak some Polish, I know). Looks like a very promising game so far.

The Cumans are a very interesting culture. Basarab I, the founder of Wallachia, and Thocomerius (his father) have names of Cuman origins, suggesting involvment of these people in the rebellion agains Hungary.

I see that just like in EU4 paradox fails to add Lithuanian letters to the game, it should be Aukštaitian, also anything outside of modern Lithuania seems to use polish or belorussian names for the locations e.g. Minsk should be Minskas, Grodno should be Gardinas. I don't have proof but I am quite certain that Jotvingia should have a dominant baltic culture or atleast a sizable minority. Memel should not be Samogitian (I'd prefer Žemaitian to be the name of that culture) Memel should be Curonian and I'd say the province that includes Memel location should be named Memel as it is the most important city in that location. Having Aukštaitian culture and not Lithuanian makes it more difficult since the areas shown to be part of Aukštaitian even to this day are devided into Dzūkija and Suvalkija and I feel like if even today those regions are seen as very diffrent and have a very diffrent dialect, showing it as being part of the Aukštaitian culture is misleading.

To be fair, Poland and Lithuanian should not start at war with Teutonic Order and Bohemia. The war started in 1327 and lasted until 1333 when Polish king - Ladislaus the Short died. Both sides agreed to an armistice and hostilities did not resume despite official treaty was signed in 1343 in Kalisz. Moreover, Ladislaus successor - Casimir the Great met with John of Bohemia in 1335 at Visegrad summit and they formed an anti-Habsburg alliance. However, if for whatever reason Paradox wants Poland and Lithuania to start at war with Teutons and Bohemia, in my opinion Hungary should be part of Polish alliance as Hungarian troops fought on Polish side.

As a dane I am curious about Denmarks situation at this point. The kingdom was basically bankrupt and most was held by german merchants. The King only had north Jutland. In 20 ish years Valdemar the 4th reunified Denmark by sword and coin. He sold estonia to the teutons. Reconquered Scania and had Denmark on a path of Baltic Dominance. He however got into a conflict with the hanseatic league who defeated the danish king. His daughter Margrethe the first, founded the Kalmar Union.

Wow, I'm so hyped to see my home region, finally! First, cudos to developers for much better representation of Eastern Europe than in my beloved EU4. But there are some issues. I'm okay with the naming of Grand Dutchy of Lithuania, but if we'll look into original documents (and most of the documents of this country were written using cyrillic alphabet and proto/old-belarusian language, not latin alphabet and latin language), so we will see that proper transcription of this country shall be Grand Dutchy of Litva (or Litwa). As for cities names, again, in general I'm glad to see at least Minsk intead of freaking Minskas in EU4, but. Maybe we shall to use historical names plus with respect to transliteration rules? In that way, we have next renamings: Miensk instead of Minsk (Miesnk was name literaly just until 1930s), Navahrudak instead of Novogrudok, Horadnia instead of Grodno, Bieraście (Brest), Vaŭkavysk (Vawkavysk), Biahomiel (Begoml), Braslaŭ (Breslauja) and many-many-many more! Also, for example, first mention of Marjina Horka was in 16th century only, so for this province I would suggest another name. Myabe for some others also, I didn't see in depth yet this map. And of course, Vilno/Wilna and Troki, but not Vilnius and Trakai. Because again, this city was renamed only in 20th century. If you want, I could grab whole list of renaiming suggestions. Also want to mention about names. I saw Gediminas as Grand Duke. Excuse me, but there are literally 0 historical documents (if we look for original documents, not translated copies from language to language) where dukes of GDL have such names as Vitautas, Gediminas and so on. Big no! Gedymin, Vitaŭt - yes. Cultures. There are pretty ok, by the way. Because modern nations became to form much later (and if we are talking about Belarusians - in 19th century). So. It is pretty accurate to have common Ruthenian culture in this area with old/proto-belarusian (as we call it now) language. There is another big NO to cultural map mode. Developers made Vilnius, Braslau, Grodno, Lida as Aukstaitian. This has never happened and could not be!! These territories and cities were primarily ruthenians!! Even Vilnius, that's right. (And by the way, @LudietHistoria - there are no Belorussians or Belorussia. Please, use instead Belarus and Belarusian.) Religions. I would say, it is also accurate. But again. Lands of GDL weren't so uniformly orthodox. There was pretty sizeable amount of pagans still here and there. Plus, after Union of Brest in 1596, new church was formed - attempt to unify Eastern Orthodox believers and the Catholic Churches - Uniate church, formally as orthodox, but independent from the Moscow patriarchy and under rule of Pope. I was an attempt to unify people from both sides, catholic and orthodox under one roof. Moreover, at first this church was highly widespreaded, but due to different circumstances lost support from people. Nowadays there is successor of this church, Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

The old rus kingdom had its powerbase mainly around kyiv, which spread further east along the rivers (such to the moscow area). The ukraine-russian cultural divide didnt really form after the black death, mainly from centuries of ukraine being under polish control.Imo it would make more sense for the game to start of with more of a ck3 approach to the russian culture, being more united. Start it off by having it all be called the "Rus" culture, and afterwards being split to Ruthenian and Muscovite depending on the borders. Novgorodian being its own culture is kinda fine I think though.

Estonia definitely needs pagan population. Not very long after EU5's start date, there was a popular uprising in Estonia, Saint George's Night Uprising, in 1343. It was an ethnic Estonian revolt against the Germans and their Christianisation of Estonia, which involved killing German settlers, killing priests, and burning churches. It was unsuccessful, but it showed that paganism was still very strong in Estonia, and it would be more accurate for only really the Baltic Germans in Estonia to be Catholic with a small minority of Estonians being actually Catholic. Definitely not like how it is now, where the entirety of Estonia appears to be majority Catholic.

You were talking about how hard the beubonic plague will hit eastern europe and i found that the plague hit eastern europe slightly less then wetern europe ive also seen that because of the plague gdp has risen as there was up to 50% of people that died so people tended to become much richer after and even during the plague as people were dieing and their wealth was distributed also there were apparently changes to the region specialisations although i can imagine that eastern europe won't see that u til maybe the mid 1400s? Maybe later mostly because they weren't hit too hard compared to western europe, for the Balkans, sadly i cant say much as they were in a time of turmoil with the serbs fighting with greek despots, the house of anjou and albanian warlords while the byzantines were in midst of the civil war of 1337 while the ottomans were exerting pressure on the empire (might be intresting to explore it and perhaps evade the civil war and possibly push the ottomans back) so i have a hard time finding reliable sources for it although i can say that many people tought that god was punishing them for sin so maybe monarchs should loose piety (if it exists) when plague hits them Otherwise if paradox wants to explore the idea of the plague changing the map (which they probably did but im saying nevertheless) i have a short document by a professor of commonwealth and imperial history on it: www.history.ox.ac.uk/black-death-and-european-expansion

Rusyn is just another synonym for Ruthenian.

There are some inaccuracies in Lithuanian culture. So by this point it should be 3 distinct regions: Žemaičiai (samogitians), Aukštaičiai and Lietuviai (Lithuanians). Lithuanians were the dominant tribe in the modern day Lithuanian territory and the one who unified the country. It is also where all our capitals were (Vorūta/Kernavė/Trakai/Vilnius).

Poland was the only european country that wasnt devastated by the plague. After the plague, the difference between polish population and western europe wasnt that massive.

@Ludi Kaszubian culture is one third most common culture in Poland (today), after Polish and Silesian cultures. Our prime minister is Kaszubian. It isn't prehistoric culture xd And the Rusyn culture group exists too in Poland but it's very rare... Names in Silesia are not "typical Bohemian" but Polish. Like "Oświęcim" (which is Auschwitz) or "Sieradz" "Opole" and everything there

Kyiv should be Kyevu or kievsk or idk since its Ruthenian culture idk why they are forcing this name in the game . literally all medieval texts from princes of kiev have the name Kiev in it in old slavic . kyi existed in like 800s and it was a person not a city . the city also should be like in ruins since it was erased by the mongols turning it to a kind of hamlet with wooden walls. the region also was ruled by various "manor lords" called princes it was even less of a country than the moldova who also somehow exist in this start date even though it should not

25% Bohemian will not help you in pronouncing Silesian names as in those are either Polish or German (probably depends on level of germanization of those lands). During feudal partition in mid Medieval Bohemian Kings claimed Polish Throne (with success - 2 kings) but lost it at some point. Silesian Piast princes decided they want to be part of HRE than be under some random cousing of theirs and pledge alliegiance to Bohemians. In EU4 we were able to see final chapters of that process - Poland being united under Jagiellons with only Masovia as vassal and 2 counties of Silesia as vassals of Bohemia. Last king of Piast and later Jagiellons made agreements with Luxembourg royal family to renounce claims to Silesia as their sphere of interest shifted towards east - Kazimierz the Great claimed Galicia - Volhynia (or inherited that land). Fun Fact - Silesian nobility became part of Austria, later Prussia being germanized and being part of Prussian and German aggresive actions against Poland, part of their Imperial endavours. Look at some surnames of German generals, sound very non-germanic. Not to say that they wanted to delete any connections of their families to Poland, so they even asked for a painting of Legnica battle against Mongols. In that time it was a battle of Poles led by Silesian Piast princes (strongest in Poland) but on the painting all christians are depicted as Crusaders (teutonic) not Poles ;). Fun Fact 2 - To counter loss of Silesia, Kazimierz got Galicia, which in effect got its own Polish population (Ruthenians as well ofc). After World War 2, Stalin decided to shift Polish borders and population from that part of pre-war Poland were send do Silesia (among others). And Germans from Silesia (some of them ancestors of Polish population from Medieval) sent to Germany. Anyway In early XIV story situation is still not decided, so playing Poland would be very interesting - maybe more than in EU4.

Fun fact but Inowrocław Duchy at the border of Poland/Teutons didn't exist there in 1337. Dukes of Inowrocław exchanged these lands in 1327 for Duchies of Sieradz and Łęczyca.. edit: Also in Silesia there're like 4 independent Duchies from Bohemia at this point and one Duchy of Jawor of Bolko II was an ally of Poland in this war. (In fact his Duchy was the last independent Silesian Duchy in history) Ziębice, Jawor, Nysa Duchies were definitely independent at that time. edit2: Marshes in Mazovia should be greater in the map. Literall translation of Mazovia is "People covered in Mud" terrain there is when a lot of Vistula tributaries meet.

The Poles invited not to convert Lithuanians but mostly the Old Prussians! They are also Baltic and not sure, but I think Old Prussians (the Baltic ones) still resided there, though the next few hundred years they were killed and/or germanized

L. stands as short form for "Land", and "Rg" is short form for Riga, so the country with "Rgl." should be "Rigaland" and is a common german specific naming for a area around a City, which is extremely strong linked to a city (here Riga), but under formal feudal rule and landownership.

Did they say anything about "creating new locations during game"? Cause i wonder why it's not a feature in Eu5, ekhem i mean project Cesar. Like they have atm problem that game will last for +-500 years and some starting locations does not make sense, cause thsoe been created much later than starting date in Eu5. But it's done to make sense "later". So having event or decision to "create" another new location in a province would make sense. It could also have some drawbacks, like draining pops from neighbouring locations, which already been deweloped with buildings into new, undeweloped one.

literally areas on the border between ruthenia and poland (or more correctly where current border between poland ukraine and belarus around city of brest (brest litovsk) should definitelly be marshes (Polesia was a one big marsh and forest area) + namings in few of the area over there needs diffrent name even in polish (issue here is that some of those areas were so little settled that time you literally didn't have any centers like closest you can get in area west of brest litovsk is from 1460s) so naming here is definitelly gonna be a challenge. (good reason why Białowieża Forest really is so well preserved) and population wise it will definitelly be a good mix of cultures here

When it comes to locations map - Where is Łomża, one of the most important locations in eastern Mazovia? It was only temporarily degraded in 1337 after attacks, but really still one of the most important places there. Also in area called "Płońsk" more important town should have been "Zakroczym" I think

Well Ludi, I am not sure why you are triggered by Transylvania. In that century it was an integral part of Hungary and it remained so until the Ottomans arrived. After 1541 you might say it should be represented as a more autonomous territory.

I dunno about the Golden Horde being mostly tengri in 1337. Tribes like the Bolgars were converted as early as the 9th century. Sure the leadership of the Goldem Horde were tengri at the beginning, but even Berke Khan was a convert or at least synpathetic to the religion.

Will they make all of Anatolia just Turkish and Sunni with some Armenians in the east like they did in EU4(very inaccurate)?Or will they make just the coastline Greek and the inner part Turkish?Or will they go for the most historical approach and calculate it as 65-70% Greek 20%Turkish 10-15%Armenian? And what of the Balkans?Will Bosnian exist as a culture?Will Croatians Serbians and Montenegrins be a different culture?The nost historical would probably be to make a small distinction between Orthodoxs and Catholics but what will Paradox do?Will Albanian continue being in the South Slavic culture group for some reason?If not,are Albanians going to be split or will they all just be Albanian? What's gonna happen in the Bulgarian region?Is the coast going to be portrayed as Bulgarian or more historically accurate as Greek?Will Paradox make Dobruja and Vardarska Bulgarian(as is accurate historically)? Are Vlachs gonna be included?If they are,will they be in their own group?Or in the Byzantine group?Or(most absurdly)in the Carpathian one?
