My 40+ Amaryllis live in 9 or 11 litre pots as their root system can grow up to 1m long and leaves up to 1,5m long. They are all under grow-lights. No forced dormancy with digging them up and putting them in a cool basement. They go dormant themselves if they want and last winter only 7 did that. And they are doing amazing. All have 7-13 leaves and flower with at least 2 flower spikes. Thanks grandma for infecting me with the "hippe bug"! May you rest in peace. 😊

I did take care of my amaryllis yesterday, but instead of potting up, I dug them from the garden and put them in a brown paper bag to rest for at least two months. I will have to buy a couple of bulbs for Christmas color or enjoy them for Easter.

Something I do to help keep my plants growing upright is to regularly rotate the pots so that the foliage is facing away from the light source. This causes the plant to "reach" in the opposite direction and gives all the foliage a better chance of getting the light it needs while also keeping it from becoming bent in one direction.

Good morning from SW Missouri, USA. Your video has lit a fire under me to get busy getting all my leafy babies ready for the winter season. Bringing in all the outdoor plants to the guest bathroom until I am sure no “ free loading pest” came in with them! Then moving around those already inside to make room for our outdoor friends. Gets a bit crowded(The Misters Word), COZY(my word)! Thanks for all your good advice. Have a lovely day.

Hello, Mr Sheffield! I just wanna say a big thanks for your videos. I just started having house plants and your instructions helped me a lot. Although I made the mistake of buying a Calathea as a starter, it is still thriving. Currently I got a snake plant, a Calathea, 3 treubii moonlights and propagating a Chinese ever green. This hobby is really addictive and it is so satisfying to see the plants grow. Wishing your plants and family to have a pleasant winter 🙏🏽💛

I have similar moss poles and I was frustrated that they wouldn’t stack. To be able to extend them, I inserted some plastic garden stakes down the back of the moss pole. It works perfectly by staking the pole in the pot and helping the moss poles to stay upright and connect.

Another useful handy tips video from Mr Sheffield. I must admit I prefer the plastic "moss" poles as you have used in this video to the choir variety. However, to stablize them I fill the bottom, upto soil level with stones. I always water my plants with rain water taken from one of my water butts. During spring and summer I do add a little fertilizer every other watering but during the darker months I just use pure rain water as rightly or wrongly I think that rainwater has some built in nutrients though I have never tested this.

I ordered an amaryllis today from a local plant shop. I remember Ikea used to carry them, but not this year - at least not yet. Although I will have colour aplenty from my pink plant collection over the winter... and for Xmas from a giant Xmas tree and decorations galore 😅 and radiators? I had to stop using a couple not to hurt my green children. Happy Autumn! 🌻🍁🍂🌰🎃
