13 year-old Chris Thile interview 

Probably the best mandolin player ever. No doubt a prodigy. At this age he’s better than 95% of pros that have been playing twice the number of years he is at this time. His album they are talking about is insanely bind blowing. You could tell he was going to be a beast

His head bobbin' is still under construction at this point, but he's definitely got the chops.

Trying to explain things like triplets to non-musicians does not get easier with age.

That was really enjoyable, and great playing! He wasn't 13, though, must've been 14 or more likely 15 (if the 1996 broadcast date is right). He was born in Feb 1981 (according to Wikipedia and an interview sourced there). The album shown, "Leading Off" did come out when he was 13, though.
