The stall calls were insane, no way these calls should’ve been made.
@nickherington9677
@nickherington9677 Год назад
the only questionable one was the double stall. The rest are plain and simple in the rule book. 5 seconds leg drop-down rule and 5 seconds to attempt a mat return on the feet. If you exceed 5 seconds it's a stall call.
@allbrosdjay
@allbrosdjay Год назад
@@nickherington9677 The 5 second leg drop shouldn't of been a single continuous count. Should of been two separate counts. The only correct stall call was when he wasn't attempting a mat return.

@jimstephens7518
@jimstephens7518 5 лет назад
That double stall call really favored DeSanto. Suriano is much more likely to be called for stalling in general because of his style against ranked guy (he takes more time setting up his shots, is generally looking to ride more than to turn, etc.). Not surprising that bit him in the 3rd period. Would like to see Suriano face a top guy and have the points be limited to offensive scoring and escapes.
@jimstephens7518
@jimstephens7518 5 лет назад

Double stalling, with two of the most offensive wrestlers in the country...and with like 15 sec left in the period to boot..gimme a break...these guys are incredibly hard to score on, hard hand fighting and working for ties is not a double stall...unless its blatant, just let it play out...besides suriano had just taken a shot...I dont get it

Reminds me of Iowa matches long ago. It's like the refs get into the Iowa style themselves, and reward the pushing, tie-ups, and not attempting actual scoring techniques with watching the OTHER guy for stalling. The Refs are affected by the immense pressure from the crowd and give in to pleasing them. Then the opponent will get frustrated and not wrestle as well. You can see it on Suriano's face in this one when he looks at the ref-- it's accurate as he knows things are not in balance or fair. I'm not even favoring him over Iowa-- I have been a huge fan of many Iowa guys and Gable inspired me over and over... AND he usually tried to score, not just push. Somewhere over the years it transferred to shoving until the opponent is tired and THEN you finally attempt to score. The only way to be fair is to stand your ground as a ref and sometimes that's going to disappoint the crowd. They're only human, so I can see where it would be tough to not give in with all that hype there... I mean DeSanto simply pulls his leg away from a Suriano shot in the beginning and the crowd goes wild. That can happen in any other match, hundreds of times with most crowds giving slight applause but patient enough to wait and see what else happens. DeSanto has been coached to do the same as the past Iowa guys-- if you're going to stall, at least stall pushing forward. After a few minutes of that, it's still not wrestling. It's not even entertaining.

(copied from the dual meet video post) Scouting DeSanto is both easy and difficult -- on the one hand, expect 200% forward pace every damn second. On the other hand, yea -- good luck keeping up with that pace! Thinking that you can try to close DeSanto in the third period is like expecting to finally convince the judges in the 5th round against Nick Diaz! Suriano looked like he was still in "Fix-mode," thinking DeSanto might be content to just hand fight. DeSanto isn't interested in criteria and has no reverse gear. He forces your offense like the pickiest of MLB sluggers -- throw a strike or I'll literally walk over you. Also Suriano played right into DeSanto's strength to stand and basically brawl, instead of create movement, use fakes, vary attacks and overwhelm DeSanto with attack angles. The playbook on DeSanto is starting to look like this: if you don't make a statement in the first period and bank some ride time(drain his tank a little), then expect an earful when it's finally over and you can breathe.

Maybe I am biased, being a former PA wrestler myself, but Desanto represents the essence of fire, hard work and skill that makes the sport of wrestling great. Kid is epic, period.

They may have made a mistake telling Suriano to cut him. I get the reasoning, however: Suriano is damn solid on his feet.

How does one stall while on top? Never seen it
@coltenbean3075
@coltenbean3075 5 лет назад
Brian K I see it all the time, when the person on top is ahead by like a point he could just be breaking him down and trying to keep him down but not working on scoring points which would be stalling
@znhait
@znhait 5 лет назад
In wrestling, a wrestler is deemed to be stalling if he's not working to improve his position. That's why you'll hear referees tell them to "wrestle." If you are on top and your opponent is on the mat, the way to improve is by trying to turn. If you're on top and your opponent is up on his feet, the way to improve is by bringing him back down on the mat. For the person on bottom, the goal is to escape. If he chooses to "ball" up as to not allow himself to get stretched out by his opponent's legs or get turned by something like a half nelson, it's considered stalling. So stalling isn't just about wrestling at the edge of the mat or running from your competitor.

What people on this thread need to realize, Seth Gross, or no Seth Gross, the 133 lb. weight class will be the toughest to win at the NCAAs. There will be no "sure bets" this upcoming March in Pittsburgh. DeSanto won this battle over Suriano. It does not mean he won the war. This will definitely be a possible matchup in March.

Although I don't agree w/ that double stall call, Suriano wrestles to defensive & to safe... Open up a little dude, probably would have beat Desantoif you wrestled a little harder.

Once again Nick Suriano cant win the big matches he just doesnt show up. Desanto isnt even really considered a true contender for the national title. Most people figure Desanto will be lucky to place top 8 and get All American honors. While Suriano on the other hand was runner up to Spencer Lee last season. Desanto is a lot of fun to watch and Suriano is the excact oposite, I mean seriously Suriano never lets loose in big matches. He is always wrestling NOT TO LOSE while a guy like Desanto is WRESTLING FOR THE WIN !!!

@Jesus is Fake Well he was a finalist last season but this year is a different story. He is losing close matches and if he keeps going like this there is no way in hell he will be in the NCAA finals again. Soriano has now lost to Fix and Desantos and I bet he will lose to Micic as well.

Hey...he makes it to the finals/and the head of the pack for a reason. He's a great wrestler, and extremely TOUGH Competitor. That weight class is the most stacked class in the Nation this year. It's brutal.

It might of been a teammate of Suriano in high school that Desanto defeated in the State final that already was a current undefeated 3 time state champion going for his 4th state title when Desanto won...and it was extremely similar to this match where it was the very last seconds that he pulled it off...if my memory serves me correctly...I'm not making any accusations but this was suspect officiating to me and stuff like this can ruin careers...almost like the ref did everything in his power to help Desanto win....1 loss can change seeds for championships...this match was not kosher in my book...but I am not trying to take anything away from DeSanto wrestling ability...watch his match on RU-vid when he beat the undefeated wrestler for his state title...and you tell me what you think

Love the sport but there's too much power given to the refs for stalling - it changed the momentum of the entire match. Kinda like the no landing on QB rule in the NFL. In such a controversial match and high stakes, the ref should have been more careful calling such a controversial (maybe not because they were in Iowa) call. And TWO of them?!?! Suriano was on top but moving up and it takes awhile in the third period when everyone is tired. It was Desanto who went to the edge of the mat.
