Oh! Syro was actually zero. I always felt something missing in RCSC mass. Now I know that was authenticity. I use to attend their mass as there were no other church at the place I lived
Brother, thanks for the session. One doubt. The first church in malankara had relationship with persian church. Didn't they have nestorian belief? In Kerala aadima sabha, Hail Mary, full of grace prayer was given by whom? Was it there right from the beginning of Kerala church? Didn't Kerala church have relationship with kaldaya church? Please please clear the doubt, GG team.
The ancient Kerala church had connection with the Antiochene church only. This connection started with the arrival of Mor Sabore and Mor Aphroth from Mor Mathai dayara of Nineveh ( present day Mosul of Iraq ) in the 9th century ( 823 AD) to Kollam . They established the first church in Kerala at Thevally ( from Thevar Pally) Kollam in 825 AD. In commemoration of this, the Kollavarsham was started by them. So all the churches in the present day Kerala were started after this date. When people say their church was started in 120 AD , it should be taken as Kollavarsham 120 which will be 825 +120=945 AD etc and not 120 AD. At that time Kerala people were not aware of the Gregorian calendar and used only the Kollavarsham. It is these two bishops who went from Kollam to Kunnamkulam and established most of the ancient churches in this belt. Mor Sabore is buried in the Angamaly Jacobite church and Mor Aphroth in the Udayamperoor synodal church which was started by these bishops. Presently this church is with the Syro-malabar group. St. Thomas never came to South India nor to the region which we presently call as Kerala. It is a lie started by the catholic priests and bishops. Later on the orthodox church headquartered at Devalokam also tried to promote this lie as it would help them in their court cases. St. Thomas may have come to the North western region of the ancient undivided India, the region neighbouring the Parthian kingdom.- the region beyond the river Indus or river Sindhu. This region was called "Hendo" by the Persians and others and even in the ancient syriac literature. In the Acts of Thomas there was a mention of King Gondophoros who ruled this part. Recently coins bearing his figure has been unearthed from these regions and hence there is some credit to the apocryphal story mentioned in the Acts of Thomas. Also to some extent we can say that St. Thomas is the Apostle of India if this legend is proved correct. Presently most of this region is with the Pakistan and Afganistan. However we cannot link St. Thomas with the region which is in the present day Kerala. It is a mistaken identity or a deliberate attempt to confuse people using the word India ( or Hendo) mentioned in some of the few records with "Kerala" regions ! Similar is the case with the lie being promoted about the migration under Knai Thomman to Kerala. There was no such migration in the 4th century AD either . This is also mentioned by the European researcher of Indian Syriac chrisianity, Prof. Istvan Perczel who suggested that the Knanya community may have come after 8th century only. So could be there is a confusion between the 9th century migration to Kollam with these Knanya community's migration and both could be the same story only with some spicy variations. One could also see the similarity in the contents of the Tharissappally cheped given by the Venad ruler of Kollam Ayyan Adigal Thiruvadigal during the 5th regnal year of the Chera Emperor Sthanu Ravi Varma in 849 AD to the Kollam Nazranies with that of the chepped given ( allegedly) to the Knanya Community. The chepped given to the Knanya community nobody has seen. Only a handwriiten copy of the Portugese translation of the contents of that chepped by a catholic priest in the 17th century is presently available and is kept in the London museum ! It could be a translation of the summary of the Tharissappally chepped only. However they have been able to cook up several legends and apocryphal stories of bishops etc and promote the same very successfully over the last few centuries ! The isolated early christians seen in the Kerala coast by the foreign travellers before the 9th century are actually the descendants of the Spice traders from West Asia who married local women during their long stay in Kerala waiting for favourable monsoon winds to return back to their country on the Mediterranean coast and neighbouring regions. The connection with the Nestorian church of Kerala christians came in the late 12 century AD only and then the Nestorian church ( Church of the East) took over the small Kerala christian community till the arrival of the Portugese in the late 15th century. This is the basis on which the Portugese thought that the Kerala christians were always Nestorians and spread that lie in their subsequent propaganda.There was also a small community of Nestorians on the East coast of South India in the Coromandal region around Mylapore of the present day Chennai. These people migrated to Kodungalloor region due to the persecution from the Saivaite community under Manickavasagar. Since they came from the north of Kodungalloor they were called as Northists. The small community of migrants who came from among the Kollam Nazrani community and settled around the Nothists in Kodungalloor are called Southists as they came from the South of Kodungalloor. These Southists did not mix with the Northists as they were Jacobites as opposed to the Nestorian beliefs of the Northists. They practiced monogamy and ended up as the present day Knanaya community. Rest of the story everybody knows starting with the migration to the south from Kodungalloor in the later centuries during the "Padayottam" of Tippu sultan etc . Some of them came down to Kuravilangad etc from where the Pakalomattam family started. Of course the orthodox churches in the southern Travancore ( Kollam to Thiruvalla belt) were not affected by these transitions and that is why you see very few Syro-malabarians and chaldeans ( nil ?) in this belt . Also another thing to note is that the present Vatican headquartered Roman catholic church is formed out of 24 independent churches including the Latin catholic church. The other 23 churches which includes the syro-malabar and the syro-malankara churches are formed by splitting the orthodox churches across the world and together form just less than 1% of the total Roman catholic population of the world !. This cunningness of the latin church every one should realise !
