You can't beat the run up of a SOX lamp tbh. I really miss it tbh. All gone now near me about 5-6 years ago for SON and CPO but now even those are gone for LED. Still loads of SOX still in used around the Merseyside area though. I know of a few Wardle Liverpool lanterns which have been going since the 1930's!
That’s a shame, there’s still loads of Sox around me. There’s a small village locally that was all Sox until recently when it was LEDed and I saved a few fixtures. There’s still a lot left there though
The 135W and 180W SOX lamps use a capacitor in series and not in parallel like with the lower wattage lamps. So with the high wattage lamps it's not just to help get a better power factor.
I just wired it how it was already wired on the gear tray - there’s a 180w there now and I’m using a leak transformer so I didn’t bother getting a cap for it
