I watched that race at Hastings Park in Vancouver ( Mario's home track he had only recently moved up the the bigger tracks in Cali) just mind blown that a jockey from our track would even end up in the Kentucky Derby like that was enough.. I'll never forget hearing some lady shout out " oh my god its Mario" then we saw him coming up the middle on I'll Have Another , the whole place went nuts I still get chills
Look at how the jockey yanks I'll Have Another into position in the final stretch yet he still runs Bodemeister down. He was just back about seven lengths and then five lengths into the final stretch and he has his momentum shifted going into that final stretch. Pretty amazing.

Baffert named this Bodemeister after his son Bode. I don't know if it was Baffert or his jockey Mike Smith who called for those ridiculous fractions on the lead, but I watched my $200 win bet go up in flames. The horse ran as superb race though to finish 2nd after that abuse. Ughhh.
