Right! They must've spent 20x the crew, time, effort and budget to cover all the horses just so they could cover the winner! You're so sharp aren't ya?
Seriously, you'd have to have more money than sense to take part in the Kentucky Derby, and the slow moving sort of horseback riding is a sissy activity. You could get a hypercar for the price of a derby horse.
@SecretUser2000 to each their own, some prefer to write sissy comments on RU-vid. On a different note, how is this at all related to what I've said in the comment?
Mary In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. 1 Kaf, Ha, Ya, Ayn, Saad. 2 A mention of the mercy of your Lord towards His servant Zechariah. 3 When he called on his Lord, a call in seclusion. 4 He said, “My Lord, my bones have become feeble, and my hair is aflame with gray, and never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you. 5 “And I fear for my dependents after me, and my wife is barren. So grant me, from Yourself, an heir. 6 To inherit me, and inherit from the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, pleasing.” 7 “O Zechariah, We give you good news of a son, whose name is John, a name We have never given before.” 8 He said, “My Lord, how can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have become decrepit with old age?” 9 He said, “It will be so, your Lord says, ‘it is easy for me, and I created you before, when you were nothing.’” 10 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights straight.” 11 And he came out to his people, from the sanctuary, and signaled to them to praise morning and evening. 12 “O John, hold on to the Scripture firmly,” and We gave him wisdom in his youth. 13 And tenderness from Us, and innocence. He was devout. 14 And kind to his parents; and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 15 And peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the Day he is raised alive. 16 And mention in the Scripture Mary, when she withdrew from her people to an eastern location. 17 She screened herself away from them, and We sent to her Our spirit, and He appeared to her as an immaculate human. 18 She said, “I take refuge from you in the Most Merciful, should you be righteous.” 19 He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord, to give you the gift of a pure son.” 20 She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I was never unchaste?” 21 He said, “Thus said your Lord, `It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.'“ 22 So she carried him, and secluded herself with him in a remote place. 23 The labor-pains came upon her, by the trunk of a palm-tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this, and been completely forgotten.” 24 Whereupon he called her from beneath her: “Do not worry; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you. 25 And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you, and it will drop ripe dates by you.” 26 “So eat, and drink, and be consoled. And if you see any human, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Gracious, so I will not speak to any human today.'“ 27 Then she came to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have done something terrible. 28 O sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, and your mother was not a whore.” 29 So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to an infant in the crib?” 30 He said, “I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture, and made me a prophet. 31 And has made me blessed wherever I may be; and has enjoined on me prayer and charity, so long as I live. 32 And kind to my mother, and He did not make me a disobedient rebel. 33 So Peace is upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the Day I get resurrected alive.” 34 That is Jesus son of Mary-the Word of truth about which they doubt. 35 It is not for Allah to have a child-glory be to Him. To have anything done, He says to it, “Be,” and it becomes. 36 “Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.” 37 But the various factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieve from the scene of a tremendous Day. 38 Listen to them and watch for them the Day they come to Us. But the wrongdoers today are completely lost. 39 And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded. Yet they are heedless, and they do not believe. 40 It is We who will inherit the earth and everyone on it, and to Us they will be returned. 41 And mention in the Scripture Abraham. He was a man of truth, a prophet. 42 He said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship what can neither hear, nor see, nor benefit you in any way? 43 O my father, there has come to me knowledge that never came to you. So follow me, and I will guide you along a straight way. 44 O my father, do not worship the devil. The devil is disobedient to the Most Gracious. 45 O my father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Gracious will afflict you, and you become an ally of the devil.” 46 He said, “Are you renouncing my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will stone you. So leave me alone for a while.” 47 He said, “Peace be upon you. I will ask my Lord to forgive you; He has been Kind to me. 48 And I will withdraw from you, and from what you pray to instead of Allah. And I will pray to my Lord, and I hope I will not be disappointed in my prayer to my Lord.” 49 When he withdrew from them, and from what they worship besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob. And each We made a prophet. 50 And We gave them freely of Our mercy, and gave them a noble reputation of truth. 51 And mention in the Scripture Moses. He was dedicated. He was a messenger and a prophet. 52 And We called him from the right side of the Mount, and brought him near in communion. 53 And We granted him, out of Our mercy, his brother Aaron, a prophet. 54 And mention in the Scripture Ishmael. He was true to his promise, and was a messenger, a prophet. 55 And he used to enjoin on his people prayer and charity, and he was pleasing to his Lord. 56 And mention in the Scripture Enoch. He was a man of truth, a prophet. 57 And We raised him to a high position. 58 These are some of the prophets Allah has blessed, from the descendants of Adam, and from those We carried with Noah, and from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from those We guided and selected. Whenever the revelations of the Most Gracious are recited to them, they would fall down, prostrating and weeping. 59 But they were succeeded by generations who lost the prayers and followed their appetites. They will meet perdition. 60 Except for those who repent, and believe, and act righteously. These will enter Paradise, and will not be wronged in the least. 61 The Gardens of Eden, promised by the Most Merciful to His servants in the Unseen. His promise will certainly come true. 62 They will hear no nonsense therein, but only peace. And they will have their provision therein, morning and evening. 63 Such is Paradise which We will give as inheritance to those of Our servants who are devout. 64 “We do not descend except by the command of your Lord. His is what is before us, and what is behind us, and what is between them. Your Lord is never forgetful.” 65 Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. So worship Him, and persevere in His service. Do you know of anyone equal to Him? 66 And the human being says, “When I am dead, will I be brought back alive?” 67 Does the human being not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing? 68 By your Lord, We will round them up, and the devils, then We will bring them around Hell, on their knees. 69 Then, out of every sect, We will snatch those most defiant to the Most Merciful. 70 We are fully aware of those most deserving to scorch in it. 71 There is not one of you but will go down to it. This has been an unavoidable decree of your Lord. 72 Then We will rescue those who were devout, and leave the wrongdoers in it, on their knees. 73 When Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Which of the two parties is better in position, and superior in influence?” 74 How many a generation have We destroyed before them, who surpassed them in riches and splendor? 75 Say, “Whoever is in error, the Most Merciful will lead him on.” Until, when they see what they were promised-either the punishment, or the Hour. Then they will know who was in worse position and weaker in forces. 76 Allah increases in guidance those who accept guidance. And the things that endure-the righteous deeds-have the best reward with your Lord, and the best outcome. 85 Whoever seeks other than Islam as a religion, it will not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. As a physician in KY that regularly sees patients that work in the horse industry, I wish the money would trickle down a little bit more to all of them that make such glamour possible.
@@SJokesthat is the exception to the rule. While I’m not a physician I am a nurse in an ER and I see tons of patients that work on the horse farms and while some of the bigger more successful outfits make efforts to take care of everyone involved it is far too common that I have workers that come in and their biggest concern isn’t their flail chest from getting kicked by a horse but whether they are still going to have a job or not. Let me tell you now I have never once needed to fill out workers comp forms for anyone near the bottom of that totem pole where the trickling ideally would happen, but obviously doesn’t.

@@tessdurberville711 Of course "grooming" is the proper terminology for the horse's maintenance . I'm more referring to his personal touche with the animals. I'm not no horse expert, but if you are constantly shouting around them. Could become uneasy. He's professional enough to be at that level, but he knows what needs to be said. Plus it was light hearted comment. I apologise for not being up to par, With the horse lingo!
@@HECTICZEN Fun fact: a lot of these horses are actually trained to ignore those types of “spooky noises”! It’s called desensitization training. These horses need to be desensitized due to being constantly exposed to cars, banging, and other loud noises that will be associated with horse racing. (People in the stands screaming, camera flashes, cameras fixed on the rails tracking them, alien objects being fixed on them like flowers and flashy medals) It’s a lot safer for the groomers, farriers, stable hands, and all around everyone if your horse doesn’t spook, or can show warning signs of discomfort without immediately hurting anyone. I doubt the horses ever really get uppity with the groomer, they honestly probably really love all that cool water after sweating from lots and lots of galloping!
@@Epheb1phobia You are correct, but the horses absolutely do get ‘uppity’ with us. Mostly they’re just feeling good and happy, rarely is it because they’re scared of something. But it’s not unusual for us to have 2-3 horses bolt, buck, rear (insert any other stupid behavior here) in the same day. EDIT: had 2 in a row pull that crap with me. Walked one filly, she kept pulling back, trying to bolt, etc Put her away and grabbed the next horse, he started bucking and doing little rears. Literally 2 horses back to back pulled that crap. Sometimes I just don’t have the energy for those horses 😂
@@heheheha9094 For a winner, stud fees are likely upwards of $100k. Horses easily live 25 years so it can add up to alot of money. However, for race horses (thoroughbreds) it can't be the semen that's sold, the stallion (male) needs to physically mate with the mare (female) to be breed-approved.
It's insane that we still race horses. It's even more insane that they make the track more likely to cause leg injuries. The fact that a broken legs means death for horses makes this a reckless risk.
While I agree that we have a ton of things that can and should be better, saying that they intentionally make the track more likely to cause injury is a bit misleading. It’s always been dirt, it’s not a new thing done recently they did to make it more challenging. Now if you want to say they are clinging to every bit of “tradition” because they refuse to change for the better because rich old people want to keep things “they way they are supposed to be” then that is absolutely true.
You're right. You could get a hypercar for the price of a Kentucky Derby caliper horse. To take part in the Kentucky Derby, you'd have to have more money than sense. And if you tried to make a living, betting on it or any sport out there, you'd probably drown in debt.
These heritage events really are something else -- I've read some history about competitions like the Derby, Ascot- & the Melbourne Cup, how the latter evolved from a regional racing event (that is now over 140 years old)- into 'the Race that Stops the Nation', draws competitors from all over the world, & is an unofficial semi-holiday...

I'm not personally into racing so I may be biased as an english trainer and coach for the past 25+ yrs (our industry isn't without its faults) but regardless, if you know horses, it's hard to see three yr olds racing. I don't start any horse under saddle until they are at least three and jumping around four years of age. It's like asking a baby to run before they are ready to crawl. It's sad to see so many former Tbs going through the system, only to suffer from injuries and lifelong chronic health conditions at such a young age.
But the video explained that. By running three year olds they introduce an air of unpredictability and thus makes the betting more exciting. The welfare of the animal isn't the main priority here, it's the accumulation of cash.

They say the British Royal Horses are some of the most looked after and pampered horses, and you look at horse races where if a horse breaks its leg, it’s put down, but when a British or Royal Horse has such an injury, they’re able to do surgery and somehow keep it alive and stable as its leg heals. Just look the horses in London that escaped and got injured, with one being hit by a car. They had surgery and recovered in the countryside. Shows it comes down to how much they care and how much they’re willing to spend. Horse owners in racing often don’t find the cost worth it.
A broken leg sadly can‘t be healed in 99% of the cases. Even if surgery was sucessful, the horse would have to be stabled a looong time during the healing process, which is just cruel for a flight animal. Euthanasia is actually more humane than selfishly keeping it alive with a broken leg that maybe might heal afer a few months :( As far as I know none of the horses that escaped in London had a broken leg?
No matter how we all wanna look at it, money is king and no one can do anything about it period. Even if it’s bad for the horses, But I will admit there is something about racing a horse.
As someone who works in the entertainment industry, this is the perfect example of what the entertainment industry is. These are looks into different people's passions and coming together create something fantastic. They are proud of what they do and having an audience makes it feel so much more fun and rewarding, almost addicting. And then there's always going to be that little question in the back of the mind asking: "Could there be something unethical going on?"

thats propably because this little peek into the racing business wasnt meant to be an objective documentary about horse racing. its meant to show us how they raise racehorses to win top tier races such as the kentucky derby. they managed to portray that quite well actually in a favorable light
Name any industry that doesn't have some faults. People like you who only want to focus on that only try to make any abuse or neglect look like it's the standard and it's not. An abused or neglected horse will achieve nothing. So it is counterintuitive to do so. You want the animal to live and look forward to his task. That's how you get the best result.
@@meganproffitt424 it's abusive to raise horses in isolation and to put them down if they fall all for the environment of the wealthy. not all horse racing is abuse, but this derby is
As a thoroughbred rescuer and owner who takes the ones who don’t run “fast enough” for wins, why don’t you show the ugly truth about how these beautiful, athletic horses are farmed in “crops” and sent to the slaughter pipeline if they don’t make a profit ???
Less than 1% of racehorses make a profit, are you telling me there are 20,000+ thoroughbreds in the pipeline? Where? Why don’t you out the connections? Oh, wait, it’s not happening. I’m not denying TBs don’t go to slaughter. I’m denying how they end up in the pipeline and the amount because it’s not happening near as often or even how you say it is happening.
Every discipline has a good and bad side, our race horses love racing, if we have horses that don’t like racing we sell them to people who want to try other things with them. Life ending injuries happen with every discipline
@@genevieve.celestineExcept for we really don’t know if any horse loves racing with a human being on their back, a bit in their mouth and their tongue tied. We tell ourselves they do to make ourselves feel better but the truth is we don’t really know. What we DO know is that racehorses are being ridden WAY too young. Their backs have not completely formed and we are ruining their health. There is ample research showing that the bones in horses backs don’t fully form until the horse is around 5!! The racing industry starts riding them at 2! That’s way too young! So even if they love it they are not aware of the long term damage we are causing and that’s our responsibility. Not theirs. They don’t have an understanding of what racing is doing to their long term health. So think about what’s right for the horse. Not what makes money, what the horse “likes” or dislikes, or what has been done traditionally. None of that matters. Only the well-being of the horse.
@@cihtli our race horses definitely like to run, and also it’s bad for thoroughbreds to be ridden when they’re fully matured, we got a horse in training, the horse was broken in at 5 and had so many problems the moment he was broken in, shortly after breaking him in he began getting leg injuries and kissing spine, had to be put down at 7, meanwhile the other horses we have in training were broken in at 2, developed good, had their time and were building up good, their muscles gaining as they grew and just turned out beautiful when they were fully grown, but it really depends on the horse itself, some 2 year olds are mature, some just need more time before officially getting into the track, and we, our stable, sells horses who don’t like racing, had a few horses who literally didn’t jump off from the gates and were sold as riding horses, one of them became an amazing jumper while the other was perfect for someone’s teenage daughter, plus in America it’s really different from here in France and the Netherlands, here in the Netherlands the whips are banned for example and in France there’s a low maximum of whip usage and going over that can really get you into trouble, plus we give our horses breaks, we had a really bad lung bleeder who was sold to us and we had to completely reset him, had to teach him how to trot and walk again, took a full year for him to recover but he loves running, he’s only been in the prices this and last year, the sweetest horse ever and loves running, some horses also have their race period and go to the fields for a few months and they ofcourse have their daily turn out schedule and hot walker, seeing how the Americans do it scares me though and how much they kill in America and how greedy many trainers are, but every discipline has a bad side
Wait until you find out how much they pay factor workers who use multi-million dollar machines! Also the bottle costs that much and workers are paid 1/3rd of the price of the bottle an hour not for the entire washing. Not even that if any of the four he washes he can get $30,000 that's out of 20 horses so he has a 20% chance of getting $30,000 and if he gets paid $20 bucks an hour and works full time (40 hour weeks) that is a salary of $41,000 on top of the $30,000. And who cares if they are Latinos? What are you saying? Anytime a Latino works he is being exploited? That is extremely racist

Please don’t, you’re supporting horse abuse. Anyone who cared about these horses a single ounce would make sure not to support these incredibly abusive practices
they get treated this good until they're not good enough and then it's through the slaughter pipeline they go. this is one of the most abusive and absurd sports still being practiced today and it's awful how these immature horses get driven to the extreme when someone who actually knows about horses wouldn't even start training them to accept a saddle untill they're at least 3 years old.
@@mac23806 Then again, when a young horse is exhausted and overstressed a stumble is conceivable. Year after year, scandal swirls around the sport, and countless more racehorses across the US die violently and silently, away from the spotlight of big races like the Derby. For decades the story has been the same, only the horses and doping mechanisms have changed. If equine welfare is a reliable measure of how racing is doing, what happened around last year’s Kentucky Derby should not be ignored. The industry moves on from these events again and again; the dead cannot.
By human standards. Horses don't dream of fancy stables and manicures - they want space to roam freely, friends, and forage. These horses pretty much only get forage to feed them. Everything else is about looking good on the outside.

And each We made a prophet. 50 And We gave them freely of Our mercy, and gave them a noble reputation of truth. 51 And mention in the Scripture Moses. He was dedicated. He was a messenger and a prophet. 52 And We called him from the right side of the Mount, and brought him near in communion. 53 And We granted him, out of Our mercy, his brother Aaron, a prophet. 54 And mention in the Scripture Ishmael. Easy. Some of those colts will be turf horses (meaning they run on grass, which the Derby is not), some will run on synthetic and all weather surfaces (which again, the Derby is not run on these surfaces), some of those other colts run in the prep races, but don't earn enough points to run in the Derby, so they may point for the other two races on the Triple Crown series (the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes) since those don't require points to enter, or they may focus their attention onto other races later in the year such as the Haskell Stakes, Travers Stakes, Pennsylvania Derby, Breeders' Cup races. Some may not have started their careers yet by the time the Derby prep races start to be run, and others may prefer running at shorter distances (one turn races). Many will also be purchased at yearling and two year old sales by owners in other countries (Europe and Japan being most prominent) and will race in those countries as opposed to in North America. The ones that don't end up seeing a racetrack, will be offered for sale via various OTTB facilities that specialize in training TBs for other careers in other disciplines
The Kentucky Derby is only one race. There are nine races, every racing day, at every racetrack. The Kentucky Derby is not the be all and end all of horseracing.
Most of them are sold to Mexico and Canada. If you want the real answer , look into it yourself , it's a lie While some are given to good homes that's not what happens to all of them
Look at 6:13 - 6:22! 😮 Is that the steam of the hot water evaporating off the horse? Wasn’t expecting to see that, especially being outside, but Idk the ambient temperature…

Worked on racing yards in England and Ireland. Trust me it is hard work. Dangerous at times as well. I wouldn't change it for the world and I still go back to see my Mum and her horses. I love them so much, but I am so grateful I got through college and became and Engineer. It really motivated me study hard and get there. We have two Cheltenham Gold Cups which is a big race in England, incredible feeling.
None. These horses are closely monitored by a vet the entire time they are at the track, a vet follows them all the way from their barn to the saddling paddock, and another vet is out on the track and observes the horses as they warm up for their workouts and races, and an ambulance follows them around the track (it's the only sport where an ambulance DOES follow). Horses are required to take multiple drug tests before the races, and the winner is required to take one after the race as well.
Thanks for continuing updates 👍 I'd rather trade the stock market as it's more profitable. I make an average of $34,500 per week even though I barely trade myself.

Well I don’t know, I’ve seen some videos on RU-vid where horses broke their leg during the race. Don’t know where those races took place. Horrible to watch.
10,000 born a year, 20 make it to the derby.. you do the math. *the rest either:* • ) get sent back to a breeder to become broodmares for 20 years, • ) get put up for auction/adoption, go on to race for 3-6 years for OTB tracks till they break something and are euthanized or are hauled to mexico for slaughter.. • ) the final few who survive this russian roulette get picked up by rescues or adopted by private owners as companion animals because most come with traumatic injuries or a debilitating mental state that requires years and thousands of dollars of reconditioning/ training/physical therapy to be able to return to work even at a reduced capacity/ aka pleasure riding - so unless you’re rich or can make a profit from it, very few horses actually make it out alive or live long enough to see 15. Mine was lucky, she’s 20 years old this year and lives all day in my pasture with her older buddy and a young spry gelding who dotes her with attention and affection.
As an actual landowner in the US since i was 4.5 years old. Ok, so we have all these concepts. Some of us are best freinds but we hold different kinds of missles
And just a friendly reminder that some of these lovely horses wind up in the slaughter pipeline because they don't win enough. Or they have an injury. Horse racing is almost as bad as big lick. If these horses are winners. They are revered and loved forever, but if something unfortunate happens to them then they disappear.

You can tell that the ppl who made this know nothing about this horse or his running style. He didn't "lose the lead", he NEVER runs on the lead that early in the race, he is a stalker, meaning he sits just off of the leaders and makes his move on the turn or in the stretch (like he did here in the Derby).
A sad industry to entertain the wealthy. Horses are commonly drugged and run in pain. Grooms are at risk for exploitation and typically live in tack rooms in the horse stall area. Not good living conditions. Do they receive medical insurance, PTO, retirement? They need more advocacy.
@@Wild.island.eventing. Top-tier horse owners circumvent those tests. That's just how the sausage is made unfortunately. The entire sports world is rife with corruption.
@@presterjohn1697 Nope, each horse competing in any race is actually required to have a drug test before the race, and the winner is also scheduled for one after the race as well. They also aren't allowed to have any drugs administered at least two weeks before the race, and have to be placed on a vets list every time a drug is given to them (this includes legal drugs like antibiotics as well)

These guys literally just admitted to the soft dirt tracks making horses more likely to break their ankles and their only thought was, "it's more exciting that way!" These people might love their horses, but they don't see what a horse really needs. They need a big space to roam, with many friends. They shouldn't be put under this pressure at such a young age, and be kept stalled nearly 24/7, while their only release of energy is walking in circles or galloping with a rider. Horses can live healthily to 30 years of age, there's no reason to rush and make them run, jump or perform at such high intensity before they've fully matured - both mentally and physically. And ditch the whips, they DO hurt. They can feel a fly on their skin, how do you think it feels to be slapped by a whip then? And stop using harsh bits to attempt to control them when they're in a rush of high adrenaline, and properly train them instead. There is an equestrian that can gallop her horses bridleless on a large, flat beach, and still be able to ask them to slow down, turn, and stay. So if you train them half as good and give them a good quality of life, you can control them with just a normal snaffle bit or even bitless. Most stressed horses I see don't even stop with a harsh bit, it only makes them freak out more when you yank and pull.
FACT: you have clearly never researched anything to do with horse meat consumption in the USA to be giving a broad blanket statement like this which is so easily disproven; if a random elementary school was serving horse meat (love that you don't specify which out of hundreds of thousands of elementary schools in the USA), it would have been because an entire industry was putting unlabeled horse meat in products and passing it off as pork or beef, and it certainly would not have only arbitrarily effected the cafeteria food of 'elementary schools'. Please do not spread fear mongering misinformation, you're really not accomplishing anything by it, and there's nothing inherently 'bad' about consuming horse meat to begin with, considering its just another domesticated animal, like sheep, goat, beef, pork, etc. The only reason horse meat in the USA is considered taboo is because they're primarily owned by wealthy landowners, so of course it would be looked down upon eating them, that would be considered a sign of poverty!
Its a rich mans sport. Some owners are good some are horrible. These horses are disposable if if they get injured or people aren't willing to pay a vet bill its lights out. On spot sometimes too. Some of these people dont even have interest in these animals. Like that first woman who said its not about money and she said her husband told her horses always remember you. Duh!
