I built a mad little Coupe version of this 1300 back in the mid 2000s. Cosmo 13B turbo, billet everything no expense spared. Similar colour too. It's always fascinating to me watching the next generation of guys play around with these things, hats off to the tuner tho cos your right not many people will tune high HP rotors but for good reason. Unlike yourself they failed to do the research and tuned like a piston engine instantly killing them. The engine builder is Warrick Massey, one of Melbourne's most under rated Rotor gurus due to his age and his affiliation with circuit racing not drag racing. The guy knows how to build an engine tho, and he is very reasonably priced. New subscriber, didn't know this channel existed till now, great to see Melbourne content for a change ✊
@@MindieJ if your keen ill send you few pics and info on what one of these things done properly looks like. Lol what I mean by that is engineered, Had RX7 brakes on all 4 wheels, and all the safety stuff was on point cos like you experienced first hand, I didn't want to die.
@@MindieJ I can back up what is said about Warwick Massey. If you ran a rotary in Victorian circuit racing back in the '90/00s, either 12A turbo or 13B, he was the guy to go see. He raced himself very successfully & is very good at building a motor within set parameters like the rulebook he had to stick to when racing. Check him out.
Absolute beast, love it👌 In my teens I worked at a crash shop next door to a Rotary performance shop. The owner took me for a spin in his R100 with a ported 12A, ever since then I've been in love with rotaries. My first was a S2 Capella rolling shell which I ended not finishing and ultimately selling. After that did a ground up restoration of a S2 RX7 with a Rickshaw built ported 12A with 48mm Weber. Finally bought a S4 RX7 Turbo and modded the hell out of it. Now I drive an R32 GTSt but miss that rotary sound, it's a great car but miss the old school rotaries.
Killa! Rotary powered cars are a whole different animal aye. I don't think I'd ever own 1 , but Ive enjoyed being a passenger in the cpl I've ridden in
Warwick Massey of WJM rotaries is the godfather of rotary tuning in Australia if not the world. Haven’t seen him in many years but he has a fairly eclectic collection of Mazda’s from memory. Cheers 🙏
Is he still operating? Last I spoke to him (at least 10-15 years ago), he was finishing a Series 1 with an S5 13bt with top mount to take to Thailand as his missus was from there. Maybe he moved there
@@rotang2 Thanks mate. Maybe your name is Dan? If so, we know each other. And just watched your old Ausrotor vid from 2009, I'm in it and so is Wes (RIP). Nice to see him again. Cheers
i had a stock 13b rx3 coupe back in the day safe and fun to drive. had 2 mates one with an efi pp in a 3 coupe and his brother had a 13b r100 coupe wet impellor turbo. was very careful when getting a ride with those boys had to bring spare undies!. your mates 1300 brought back the memories. great car. thx for showin us.
Thanks for another great video mate, I liked that stock looking red S14 in the background shots, but the Dazda/Mazdun did it for me! These things are quite scary when you consider the size of the car and the amount of power they can make! Keep up the great content...
I really admire your channel your very mature and don’t have that cringy youtuber vlog style and know all the things to talk about and cool to see all your friends have awesome period correct cars
Hahahaha I had an RX4 13B stock. Gave too many berries exiting a servo and did a 360 on a main Rd then continued on as if nothing happened. Just looked at my mate and asked what we gonna do tonight 😂
Very cool build. One thing I never understood. High end parts and top notch build, ghetto plastic leaky water bottle for overflow tank😳. All that money and can spend £100 for a nice overflow tank?
This is awesome!!! If someone would offer me a lambo on one side and this Mazda on other! I'll pick this Mazda every single time and drive daily for fun!!
That's Funny I'm building one just like it right now.. a white Notchback with Red Interior with a Street Ported S4 13B turbo along with a turbo II trans for the rear a Narrowed ford 9 inch .. up Front I'm using GSL SE front Struts with a adapter on the inside bearing surface of the spindle so I can use Turbo II rotors, I also built custom brackets so I can use the Turbo 4 piston calipers..Too. .Fun fact they only weigh 1575 Ibs. it's .going to be fun..
BTW: It is NOT a Coupe. But I had a similar one back in 1983-1987 in Finland. Even the color was the same, and I still remember even the color code: Mazda AT Skyish Blue.
Nah she will hook with a Radial, People run crazy times with a 225 on these beautys nowadays my old rx2 hooked with a 245 205 is just madness at this power lol
