Bad ass! Perfect video speeds to match the pace of the song, and love the different lighting effects too. I have no idea why, but I suddenly wanted to watch some Charleston stuff, so of course, you're the go-to person on RU-vid for this genre. Charleston = the "unsung hero" of eastern US freeway systems, for a city of its size. Great video although...on the favorites list this goes.
I live in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Anytime I travel to South Carolina and points further south, I always go through West Virginia. I always bypass Charleston, getting off I-79 at exit 57, traveling rte 19, and getting on the West Virginia turnpike at exit 48 near Beckley. It was nice to see what I miss in Charleston by taking the more direct route that I take.
This has been a remarkable season to watch & this is by far the best video from 2014 overall in my opinion. Despite the fact that there were less videos then the past 3 seasons I've watched, it's always a pleasure to see new places each year from you. Can't wait for you to end this season with a bang from your Sensory Overload 2.0 & I will see you in 2015! Thanks!
The city and state I was born in. Even though I moved away and have lived in many places around the US, including your home of Atlanta GA (Gwinnett), I spent many a summer at my grandma's house in So. Charleston growing up in the late 70's and watching them complete the interstates around the region section by section. Still know these roads and many of the secondary routes (MacCorkle Ave) by the back of my hand. BTW great choice of music. Maiden rocks!!
Great ride thru Charleston Jim! Nice to see that area! Decent freeway systems for that city! 110 percent! I always enjoy your videos! Keep them coming. Mark in Iowa.
Nice ride! I went through there back in 1987 with my family on the way to and from Raleigh/Durham, NC and I always was in awe of the highways of Charleston- especially loved going past that stadium there, the bridges- always one of my favorite rides though I have not been there since 1987 but nice to see the upgrades they have made since! Awesome track to go with the ride too!!!!
I live in Raleigh/Durham NC now but am originally from Pittsburgh, plus I also have family in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area of Ohio... this highway is very familiar to me, as it makes up the bulk of my route to and from those areas (with the "fork" between going home to visit and visiting the Ohio side of my family being the southern terminus of I-79)... awesome job on the video!
WV Turnpike, A modern two and three lane highway. The nice thing about being Northbound on I-77 at the start of I-79 is it means only 90 minutes to home. Unlike in your Jacksonville video on Fl-9A which is 8+ hours to the other home.
Thanks for this post man! Have driven on the WV Turnpike many times and I like how it goes parallel to the Kanawha for several miles before you approach the Charleston. Keep up the good work!
Scenery on I-26 here is better than most, but I liked the 10 mile stretch of the 2-lane road through Wolf Laurel. If it was still open, I would still be using it. Most interstate roads look alike.
I'm pissed at WV... in January 2019 they doubled the tolls from $2 a pop to $4 a pop :( and for what? Every time I pass through here they have cones set up along some part of I-77 just so they can lower the speed limit even though there's no actual road work going on... MONEY GRAB!!!!!!!
Ah, yes. I-64.. or as many locals like to call it, the "I-64 Speedway." I drive almost all 161 miles of I-79 from Charleston to Morgantown every week. It sure gets lonely until you hit Clarksburg/Bridgeport.. Neat video!
Well I am from MARTINSBURG West Virginia but I have been through some crazy shit in my life and got into trouble so I was in prison myself in a couple of different places in West Virginia and Maryland but I was at the "SLAYTON WORK CAMP" which is the "MOUNT OLIVE ROAD CREW'S" and then I got transferred to the "CHARLESTON WORK RELEASE FACILITY" and was some of the first people to be there when they opened it up in (2015) ,but anyways I have done work on almost every single road around Charleston etc. Until I was able to get a job at Work Release at a Car Detailing place downtown..But awesome place.

Freewayjim Actually, I believe you can still render a 30fps (or 60i) video as a 60fps one. Although you need to speed up the video at 2x to avoid possible choppiness. At 2x speed, the original 30fps video is basically "compressed" into 60fps.
Oh my, "looked good" is an understatement, Jim. Your camcorder produced such a smooth and stable footage, I didn't actually notice the absence of 60fps until after the video ended. Looking forward to LA Sensory Overload 2.0!
American Roads Thank you...I had not used the Camcorder since coming back from the trip in June so when the battery drained out all the settings were reset :P
Thank you! I was planning to go to that bridge on I-64 but there was a traffic issue ahead...I think I started my 2012 Charleston video from that point.
Tommy Bertrand in most parts you should have service, expect when you duck behind moutains or in Pocahontas county. They have no cell service there b/c it messes with the massive radio telescope on green bank
Christpher Lin: It dates back to the civil war era...the state of Virginia was a southern confederate slavery state and the people in the western part of Virginia said hey, we don't want to be any part of this, so they split off from Virginia and formed their own union state.
