I just don’t understand how it took 7 years just to build the Long Beach International Gateway, the old bridge is called the Gerald Desmond Bridge. These videos are so good I watch them over and over again.
itsoffmyleg here Jim. Are you okay? you not traveling anymore? the pleasure you have given me. whatever your situation is let us know. I know i miss you and your choice of music.
All is good, I'm fine thank you for asking. I have not had the opportunity or desire to travel or make videos, I may get back to it someday but right now I'm into other things.
Another outstanding road trip vid...man I was just up there last month and rode the lbj from 35E to 75 and it was an awesome ride...really enjoyed how they built that underneath in some sections...drive on and as always..Drive Safe...there's maniacs out there, especially in Dallas ✌️
I lived near the city for 12+ years (most of my childhood was me living in the suburbs northwest of here) so this video is a source of NOSTALGIA for me.
Thank you! No, I have not quit but I have not traveled nor have I felt like doing so and/or making videos, I'll get back to it at some point, I just don't know when that will be.
Looks and feels very much like Salt Lake City, Utah. Clean and peaceful asf. What the rest of America used to be and should be. The mountains, oceans, canyons, forests, and deserts - all within a 4-8 hour drive or a 2 hour flight at most. Just hope the woke crowd and homeless, addicts from the usual suspect states don't show up here. And of course, the shoplifters, people who run illegal food trucks, street food stands... Idaho seems like a place where all this would be dealt with an iron fist in a hot minute. Namaste.
One of the good things about (road) photos and videos is that it shows what these roads once looked like. It will be interesting (to me at least) to compare the now-collapsed bridge with the new one they are building to replace it. I remember watching this vid many years ago as a younger fellow, probably when I had to travel with my late father to work (public library) and was able to sit at the public computers all day, watch videos and play Minecraft - lol. As a side note, a lot of the music you and the other first "big" YT road recorders (e.g. FwyBrent, FwyAndrew, ScrewdUpClick, etc) used in your videos informed me of a lot of my music tastes - thank you!
I heard that the state of AZ did not want to participate $$ to build this section of I-15, so Utah contributed funds for construction. It Utah had not done that St. George and SW Utah would not have the number of residents they do now
Why was the Us 101/ California state route 2 never built between the Vermont avenue and Melrose street exits. The middle median on this section of US 101 between Vermont and Melrose is super wide. Was this wide median originally gonna be the location of the California state route 2/Us 101 interchange? I was just asking why the 101’s center median is so wide between Vermont and Melrose?
That Ravenal Bridge must be totally epic in person! I was in Charleston several years ago for a few days (my husband was there on business and I went with him) but somehow I missed it. Whichever way we went coming into town did not include crossing that bridge. I didn't even know it existed then. One of these days I'm going back to that area and I'll make that drive for sure, and, hopefully also walk across the bridge.
I took a trip to Savannah with my mom some 15 years ago, and I'll never forget seeing that bridge as I came in from the north on Rt 17. You can actually see the towers before where where the clip starts at 3:57. I was just driving along having no idea of any upcoming bridge and I remember thinking "What the hell IS that?!?" when I first spotted the towers in the distance. I could not figure out what sort of huge and strange-looking structure was so close to the roadway until I had a better view. Then I said to my mom "Whoa! Look at that bridge!" And she replied "Oh no....why did we have to come THIS way?" Yes, my mom hates big bridges.... But I had just never seen a bridge like that before in my life. I remember it vividly because of its weirdness. Here in Maryland and surrounding areas we don't have anything like that, just "traditional" truss, concrete and suspension bridges. But in a few (hopefully short) years we will be getting a cable stayed bridge like the Talmadge Bridge to replace the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Or so they say....then we will have our own weird looking bridge right here in Baltimore. You can come and film a drive over of it.
Thank you for the comment and for watching. That type of bridge is called "Cable Stayed" and there is a small one over the Indian River Inlet in Delaware and on I-295 south of Richmond VA, they are pretty popular in the southern states, the Ravenel Bridge (US-17) in Charleston SC may be the biggest and nicest of them.
The video and the music are fantastics!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. I'm going for first time to Colorado. I want to see the Rocky Mountain and enjoy the trip. Thank for this video!💯💪🏼
@Freewayjim I was recently rewatching Season 2013 and I noticed that Video 13-17 was gone.. Im not sure if you have addressed this in the Facebook but I was wondering if you were going to do something about it.
Hi there Jim, this is Nash. Not sure if you remember me (I used to comment on your videos with an annoying amount of exclamation points 😂). Anyways, I wanted to share with you that I finally got to drive this stretch of road, all thanks to your inspiration all those years ago. I’m not trying to plug my channel or anything, I just wanted to tell you I made a video about it, sort of a tribute to the inspiration you gave me, and the interest in infrastructure and good music because of it. It would really mean a lot to me if you’d give it a look, I’m sorry I know this isn’t the right place to say this, but I just wanted to share it with you. Thanks for all the great content over the years
Thank you, I've done that in some previous videos and on this one I did add the official signs stating the altitude as we approached the Eisenhower Tunnel at 15:12 and at Vail Pass at 22:50 and at Vail at 24:50.
