This trip takes place in East central Saskatchewan, Northwest of the of the border towns Creighton. SK and Flin Flon, MB. The starting/end point of this trip is just off highway 135 at the outfitter Slim’s Cabins. It is a 2 week, 250km solo canoe trip with 34 portages and great fishing.
On my fifth day, I paddled out of Nemei Lake and up a river that I can only assume is the Nemei River. I encounter a small and medium portage and I lined my canoe three times. The last line was probably a portage…but I was feeling lazy. Once on Kakinagimak (Cree word for “long”) Lake, I bumped into a fishing group from Colorado. They mentioned that they were having good luck and the next set of narrows was producing fish. At the narrows there was an area where I could pitch a tent, so that’s where I decided to stay the night. Got to love front door walleye!!!!
I started off my 6th day rudely awakened by a bear at 4 in the morning. The bear woke me up with a lot of loud mouth breathing….lol. A bear-banger did the trick as that sent it running into the bush. This paddling was easy as I had a nice tail wind. I didn’t get a lot of sleep so the extra help from mother nature was appreciated! To add to my luck, the people who own the cabin on the south side of the lake are taking care of the portages which saved me a lot of work! Huzzah! There are only three portages from Kakinagimak to Wildnest Lake. The second one is a little hard to find as its West of where the historic trip notes indicate. Once on Wildnest, I hammered a walleye for supper and came across a decent campsite. From what I’ve found, Wildnest doesn’t have a lot of good camping opportunities. There is the odd good site, but not a ton. Every time I’ve paddled this lake I've managed to catch walleye on it, so I always look forward to visiting it.
Just Would like to give a big thanks to the Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay band offices for helping me with the translations of the lake names. If anyone notices any mistakes, please let me know! Sorry in advance for any mispronunciation.
Thanks for watching!

I can relate when you come across cut wood, garbage or other signs of humans!! Such a relief when trying to find a portage

For sure! It seems to save a lot of time and cutting if you can find a little bit of a trail. Otherwise you have to wander around for a bit to find the best path. Cheers!🍻

@@puddlejumper-sk The fishing was shit 🤣. Biggest char was 0,5kg, but saw some monster char under the ice, like 3-5kg.

@@marnixvenema3661 Almost like a house hippo but far more dangerous and alluring. An almost extinct species that is rarely spotted but usually dwell around hot tubs and hot springs with a voice and swag that the women cannot turn away from. If you ever spot one keep on going unless a beer is needed and he usually has plenty to share.......

Gil, Yes....I've stared at at ton of satellite imagery of this area and wondered for a very long time what would it be like to paddle. My only disappointment of the trip is that so much of it was burnt out. But that seems like so much of the Saskatchewan Boreal these days. Glad you like the video! Cheers Tyler
