This channel is all about backcountry canoeing and fishing in Saskatchewan. The trips featured on this channel are off of the beaten portage trail so I can access Saskatchewan's amazing pristine wilderness and world class fishing. My videos try to emphasize the beauty of Northen Saskatchewan as well as give details on how to get there yourself. Hopefully you are entertained in the process. Hope you enjoy!
Im from hawaii. I been to this lake 2 times in the 90's with my fisherman grandpa. We launched the boats in kinasoa and camped on and island sonewhere because he said it was safe from bears. The fishing was amazing. Huge pike and trout. Being from a small island this was a trip of a lifetime that nobody from hawaii really experiences.
That really cool! You must have some great memories thanks to your grandfather. I'm surprised he chose Saskatchewan for his trips; most people bypass this province. Was he already familiar with this area? Ya for sure, bears can swim but I never had an issue with a bear in an island. I always sleep a bit better too....lol. Well Reindeer Lake is still here. You're welcome back anytime! Thanks for the great story!
Ya...it looks like it hit the guard rail and caught fire! Crazy eh?! Glad you enjoyed the vid! I love that lake and want to go back ....but there is just too much to explore in Saskatchewan. Some Day.......Cheers!🍻
Well I'm glad you found them and decided to watch! How did you come across them? It's always nice to see northern Saskatchewan! Cheers! one of Canadas best kept secrets. Thanks for watching!
@@puddlejumper-sk .... was looking for North Sask and your page showed up! great work! watched 2 of your trips now. always wished what my brothers and i had of done. tho our GGgrand father Peter Fidler did it enought for the whole family! he came as 17 yo 1794 ?? worked for the HBC and made some of the 1st maps of Man, Sask and Alta ! anyway, enjoyed the 2 series i watched, keep them coming!
Hey thanks, and thanks for watching! Unfortunately no, I wasn't in Nipawin...lol. I could go for some of those Tobin Lake walleyes though! If you do this as well.....any route recommendations? Cheers!🍺
@@puddlejumper-sk we may live close to Tobin but in all honesty we don't fish there lol. We like the quiet lakes, off the beaten path, up north, clean lakes lol! Planning on a Deschambault to Pelican to Jan trip here in the next month or so...there's some awesome fishing!
@@heinzklassen9395 Ya there's some pretty amazing fishing up there. Just did a trip at Deschambault Lake that took me to some back lakes north of Deschambault and west of Pelican. Didn't see anyone back there! Have a great time on your trip! Cheers!
❤NEW SUBSCRIBER❤ Love your video editing, btw when you freeze frame and you go to narration, I'm reminded of the Dukes of Hazzard when during an episode, they'd freeze frame and narrate the Dukes's predicament. lol
I look forward to seeing your trips each year now. Great video work of your trip as usual. I’ve watched them all! Very cool your trip was on Mirond and Corneille. I’ve have had many fishing trips there. It was great to see a familiar portage to Corneille, I’ve done that with fishing boats! Many great memories, amazing fishing!
WOW! Thanks for the kind words and for watching! Ya Corneille is a fantastic little lake not too far from the beaten path but not close enough to be overrun with people. A true gem! Cheers!
Thanks Bob! Ya, want to do something, but I want to try to do it right. It takes me such a long time to edit, I'm a little behind at the moment. Thanks for watching Cheers
Ya I wish I could of too. Its a real sexy lake. I know of a group of guys who recut the portage at Sawatzky Rapids so it would be easy to go back and fish Macoun. One day! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Alex, but I'm mostly just solo except when the GF and personal friends want to go. Glad you liked the transitions...there was a lot of effort in a couple of them! Thanks for watching! Cheers!
My crew and I plan to visit these rapids at the outlet of Wapusis lake this summer on our Reindeer Lake tour. Can you recall if there was any spots to throw some tents? Can one get to the edge of the rapids and fish or too overgrown with shitty Alders? Do you have any photos of the area? Thanks!
Well, from what I remember, it was just low and swampy over there. I came down on the west side and it wouldn't be a nice place to camp. As for fishing I'm not sure if you could cast from shore. I cant totally remember the area and the footage of the trip is lost as my external hard drive hit the floor. Sorry I couldn't help more. Hope you have a great trip!
I recently found your channel and just finished watching this series last night. Excellent stuff! Great camera angles, plant ID, colourful language... really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it all.
Wish I had some great ideas for you, but we’ve mostly done documented trips, usually a week long. We would love to do longer trips, but time is always a factor. Every year it’s a challenge to find a new trip without shuttling or flights or to avoid burnt areas. We’ve paddled from Paull lake twice and the last one in 2022 was the best trip ever! We are cautious paddlers, generally prefer to portage than run rapids. The foster lakes would be interesting, we’ve been on lower foster lake at a fishing camp and it’s a beautiful lake. I’m rambling; it’s beautiful wherever you go in the shield, you know that!
We have watched all your videos and you are by the best and most interesting canoe tripper we have seen. We have been canoeing in Northern Sask for 25 years. The winters are long dreaming about the next summer trip and your videos have put us there a little sooner. Love your style and sense of adventure by travelling in less known territory. Thank you for your efforts to make a great video and Looking forward to more!
Wow.....thanks for the kind words, glad I can help with the long winters! Really appreciate you are sending me a message. Since you have 25 years' experience in Northern Sask, is there a trip you would recommend? Cheers!
Wow, what an impressive epic trip. Thanks for documenting and sharing. I never knew how beautiful Saskatchewan was. Already looking forward to next summer 😊
Thanks Derek, It's a cool place. One thing I regret not adding to the videos is that Sahli Lake sits in a area called the "Pelican Window". The rock in the area is around 3 Billion years old. It looks different to any rock I've seen before. Thanks for watching the series! Cheers
Thanks for the question. In Saskatchewan we don't have to go barbless except on a few bodies of water. As far as I can tell the literature typically shows a very small difference in fish mortality fishing barbed Vs. barbless. The only fish I have issues with barbs is the Northern Pike as they can engulf the lure. Northern Pike for the most part are built like tanks and are super hardy. I would have more issues with fish mortality by fishing in depts greater that 30ft. Though this was a fishing trip, on my longer trips I fish for sustenance, and having no barbs on a slow day is not a good combination. But ya I agree with you its more sporting going barbless. Hope you enjoyed the video! Cheers
Enjoyed it, good work!! My wife thought she was watching my video at the start, I guess our lower bodies and silhouettes are similar 😂 Your audio is pretty clear on the GoPro, do you use the media mod/mic? I just got a go pro, haven’t played with it yet.
Thanks! LOL your wife must of been like ....WTF! Ya it was the GoPro 10 with the audio. I didn't have the media mod....I saw the review on that and apparently it doesn't work very well. They do a good job cutting down wind noise, but I'm going to get that "FitStill Windslayer Cover" to help even more. Which GoPro did you get?
@@puddlejumper-sk I got the latest one, which I think is the 12 Black. Good to know the sound is decent, looking forward to voice command feature. Will check out the windslayer Thanks for the input!
Great entertainment again Tyler! Really like the underwater video additions! Very nice trout! Only out of pristine waters I’d say. I appreciated seeing your hooks and some of your other gear too! I need a boom like that! Spring must be getting near cause this adventure got my blood flowing again. I’m hoping for an early spring and decent weather in May! Thanks for sharing the adventure!
Thanks Kim! Ya next time you're over I can bring the tackle box up and show you what I have....if you're interested. Looks like we might be getting that early spring! Thanks for watching!
It was good fishing!.....but I though it was going to be better. LOL. There's some amazing fishing lakes in that area.....I was hoping this was going to be another. I might build portage from Parenteau to some of those lakes. Anyways....thanks for watching guys!
When the bite is on its on!! Got to love that multi species fishin'! Pretty sweet tackle box BTW👍 A great outing despite those winds, just got to muscle through it and live the experience eh Great video Tyler🍻
LOL....I thought you would like that tackle box! Ya, thankfully the wind didn't put too much of a damper on things. The tough days are always the best stories. So right Marc, just got to live the experience. Cheers!🍻
Buffalo fan eh? I know of only one other of those. Glad you liked it! The next video might take a while to get out as my computer sucks. But there is one. Thanks for watching!
Perfect timing! Great way to spend the part of the day watching you video with this crazy storm in sk right now. Think I'm going to give the marchel lake trip a go. Thinking its a good one to get my feet wet on canoeing. I sent a message to your email as well. Thanks for the videos!
Matthew, Thanks for watching. Marchel Lake would be a decent lake to get your feet wet. But I would recommend the Bagwa Loop in Prince Albert National Park. In the spring you can catch lakers on Kingsmere, and Lilly and Bagwa have decent walleye fishing. As well its a good introduction to portaging.......but you'll have Marchel all to yourself unless there's fly-in fisherman. Will respond to your email soon! Cheers
