14 Greatest Witcher 3 Easter Eggs That Will Make You Wanna Replay It Immediately 

I have read somewhere that back in Witcher 1, in Triss's house you can find footprints by her window. In witcher 3 during "never have I ever" game Lambert tells you that he too jumped out of a lover's window to avoid hurting a friend. Also his unique gwent card is Triss.

My favorite easter egg in this game, and maybe even any video game every created, was how Vesemir told Geralt he had to work on his upwards vertical strike in the beginning of the game, when fighting the griffin. And what attack did Geralt use to finish Eredin in the end? An upwards vertical strike.

I liked the Winnie the Pooh in Tussaint. You kill a bear wearing a red shirt and you can loot honey and honeycomb from it

Best lotr reference is in witcher 2 when Geralt tells phillipa he won't get her a ring of power cause he doesn't want to run on top of volcanos later

"Arrow in the knee" was in more than just Gwent. In the "Hearts of Stone" DLC a guard is straight up mentioned to have taken " an arrow to the knee" during a cutscene.

My favourite Easteregg is when Geralt and Lambert go hiking near Kaer Morhen to refill the box and Geralt tells Lambert that he used to be an adventurer like him until he took a pitchfork to the stomach

Some prostitutes in Novigrad often say "it's a material world, and I'm a material girl" as reference to the song

I also found a little girl who says "My brother gave me a sword and I named it needle." "Is it true winter is coming?" "I dreamed I was a wolf" *cough* Arya Stark from Game of Thrones

If you kill a frozen enemy with a crossbow Geralt says "hasta la vista"

in toussaint if you go towards the edge of the map towards the blue mountain geralt says you'll need a fellowship to go any further.

In Skellige when you're exploring Ermion's lab, there's a statue of a thinker looking at his open palm. You have to place objects on it to open a secret door. If you place a skull, it doesn't do the trick and Geralt says "Guess you're no indecisive prince"... Clear nod to Hamlet!

There was a letter in which a Witcher from the School of Cat writes to another Witcher named Gaetan (who you meet through a Witcher contract). If you manage to find his stash, you will also find a letter that says this: "Dear Gaetan, it's over. They've killed Alex and Cedric. As for Schrodinger, I don't know - might be alive, might be dead..." Didn't read the rest because I was rofl-ing.

There's also a lot of references to fables. When you find Ciri it makes references to Snowhite and the seven dwarfs.

There is another nod to The Lord of the rings in the Blood and Wine DLC where you find a dead body somewhere in the woods and on this body is a fancy spoon and a note calling the spoon "precious"

Another Game of Thrones egg is in Blood and Wine. Secondly quest the knights tournament final duel with a giant knight by the name of Sir Gregor, which is the name of The Mountain.

The witcher 3 was the best game ever made and so far nothing is better and I don't think nothing will be except a witcher 4

There two more easter egg I had found. Arya Stark...the little girl, npc (inside the city in Blood and Wine), she say, "My brother gave me a sword! I named it Needle!" and Tomb Raider...Geralt found a skeleton in the ruin (The Great escape quest) and say "Heheh. Tomb Raider. Seems this one liked elven stuff" :)

My favorite reference is the Friedrich Nietzsche one. In the Mission where you have to find the destroyed statues in Velen, the bandits say "God is dead" and talk about Master Friedrich in Novigrad. It's hard to get that.

In Blood and wine are a bandit named Calvin and his Panther hobbes. Loved it

Was riding around Toussaint the other day, came across a brown bear. Thought I'd kill it since I needed a bear hide to brew a potion. After killing said bear I noticed it seemed to be wearing a red shirt and had a jar of honey on it. Yeah...I killed Winnie the Pooh to brew some Enhanced Beast Oil.

What about Ciri's refernce to cyberpunk BEFORE cyberpunk was even announced? when she describes to Geralt one of the worlds she's been into?

The fifty shades of gray reference??? When Zoltan is describing one of dandelion's girls during the quest when you have to talk to them, he says something along the lines of "she started calling him Christian and took to calling herself Anastasia, and she called him a stallion in the bedroom and then she pulled out a whip so he left"

There’s a hilarious book in witcher 3 that does a twilight new moon reference. I about died laughing. It was a story about vampires named Edward and Isabella who fall in love and she leaves him for a werewolf named Jacob and gets pregnant. I was like omg it’s twilight lol actually noticed that just the other day while playing

One of my favorite Easter Eggs in this game is found in the basement of Crow's Perch, where there are two guards who do a few lines from Pulp Fiction, in which they reference the Gimp and one tells the other to go wake him up.

in b&w there's a red hot chili peppers reference, in the land of a thousand fables there's a bridge with a red pepper under it. i got a good kick out of it.

My fav was the mission where you finally find Ciri. Without overt spoilers, they are doing a riff on Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. In fact the narcoleptic dwarf you have to escort would be Sleepy, and the one that bumbles and falls to his down death would probably be dopey.

blood and wine also has you chasing in the "paperchase" quest after a form A38 though an endless amount of red tape, which is a reference to a famous part of the french animated movie "Astérix's 12 works", where the hero does just that and ends up driven mad by the administration

What about the Pulp Fiction reference? When Geralt kills a twat named Zed and later speaks to Zoltan and says: "Zed's dead".

I believe there is also a refference to the 2001 movie "A knight's tale" when you lose a fist fight at the fight club ("You have been weighed. You have been measured"...). Not really a cult movie but always very fun to watch.

How about that Xenovox conversation referencing cell phones? "Think of them like magic boxes that talk." "Are they hard to build?" "Extremely" "So no chance that all mages will be carrying one? Etc etc etc"

"arrow to the knee" is also referenced in the hearts of stone story when you go itno the oxenfurth academy with shani. a soldier tells shani that his knee has healed well and it is "as if no arrow ever struck it"

I love the Witcher 3. It's my favorite game. There's reference to Tomb Raider. In a Tomb, you'd find the skeletal remains of a person. I believe Geralt says "Heh. Tomb Raider. Seems this one likes Elven Stuff"

Those are much cooler when you know original witcher story from books. In them there are tons of references to fairytales, slavic mythology and stuff like that. I think CD Red tried to go that way in more modern, "gaming" style.

In blood and wine when you take ownership of corvo bianco you speak to your new majordormo and learn his name is barnabas-basil foulty! A reference to John Cleeses character basil fawlty from the bbc tv series faulty towers ❤️

In tussaint you can find a fisherman saying "and i say, hey hey hey, whats going on?" and if you have been in the internet for some time, you will get it xD

You missed Winee the Pooh in Blood and Wine. There is a bear that has red fur on his middle body and when you kill him he drops a jar of honey.

There are many more references. There was a body dressed like an assassin beside e haystack. Snow white and seven dwarf reference in isle of mists. Three farting trolls :3, a rabbit in front of the cave that you can only kill with bomb. Schrodinger's cat!! and many more. I can't even recall them all.

There is a reference to "what does the fox say" song when you try to sneak in on Ermion's lab in the wake when you arrive in Skellige..

I don't know why but am I the only one who can kinda predict what the spells do when they say them? I speak Welsh and a lot of the spells sound like Welsh words for instance Keira Mets casted a spell on some mice and in the spell she said "Caefful". This sounds like "Ceffyl" which means horse in Welsh. Funnily enough the mice turned into horses!

I know I'm chiming in 3 years too late, but I still play this masterpiece of a game (since 2017). In Blood and Wine, CDPR's logo is on a sign of a tavern in one of the towns. Can't recall the name of the place or the town it was in, but was south of Beauclair and the image on the hanging sign was the red CDPR bird. :)

You also have the rabbit from Monty python and the quest for the holy grail. A snow hare at a cave entrance that you can't kill that also happens to be surrounded by skeletons.

When I first played, I thought that wailing female vocalist in the combat music sounded very similar to Dolores O'Riordan (RIP) from Cranberries. I only found that strange because she had a very unique voice and vocal style. I'm sure it wasn't her, but maybe someone inspired by her. Then later in the game I came across an NPC named "Dolores Reardon" (pronounced the same way without the O) and thought "There's no fucking way that's a coincidence." I wonder if someone on the development team is a Cranberries fan and decided to make an esoteric easter egg. Or maybe I'm overthinking and I'm just crazy. Am I crazy? Somebody tell me I'm not crazy. 😟

I ignored this game for the longest time, from its release in May 2015 until a few months ago. I never was into that sort of "Middle Ages Fantasy RPG" genre (more into the Fallout 3/4 type first person or third person action shooter genre), so never even looked at any Witcher 3 videos on RU-vid. But a few months ago, I saw that Witcher 3 with the two expansion packs was on sale for under 30 dollars on the PS4 store, and decided to buy it to see what the hype was about. The first few hours I felt bored and couldn't get into the game, the controls felt wonky and I was wandering around aimlessly. But I decided to stick with it, and then after a few more hours of playing and discovering cool Witcher 3 abilities and intriguing side quests, I started to become hooked. Now, after finishing the main Witcher 3 quest, I can honestly say this is probably the best game I have ever played in my life. I was surprised at how much I loved the storyline and all the main and side quests. In fact, Witcher 3 isn't all that different from Fallout 4 or any other open world game like GTA V, they all have the same gaming mechanics (main mission and side quests, customizable weapons, moral game choices, etc etc). What sets Witcher 3 apart for me is the way the game just involves you with the characters, these are people you really care about and feel a part of. The romance of Triss and Geralt is something I still treasure long after I was done with the game. Can't wait for Witcher 4.

Also, the titles of various quest are often references to popular music. Artists as David Bowie and Prodigy are just a couple of examples.

There's also a reference to the Gladiator movie. A small treasure quest (in Blood and Wine expension) where you search for a treasure in the farm of a certain Maximus whose wife and child have been tortured and murdered. Actually there is a letter explaining the story with the exact same words as in the movie. Very well executed.

Witcher 3 is like Skyrim but upgraded in all the most important ways making it truly supreme

One of my favorites is in Vizima, there's a secret door in the castle courtyard where you will find a saddle and a note, referencing the Witcher 1 and the Striga from that story. Super cool!

In HoS after you defeat the Caretaker and enter the house looking for clues about Olgierd's lover, Geralt will say "Happy famillies are all alike, every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way" when he looks at a painting. It's a reference to Tolstoy's Anna Karenina - the first sentence of the book.

I've put about 400 hours into this game. Witcher 3 holds no secrets from me. I held that shit up by its ankles and shook every tid bit right out of it.

Another cool Easter egg was the one about the Spanish Writer Cervantes´s novel: El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha. This is the one guy that repeatedly insist to fight Geralt (and other 99 men) in the name of his lover. This kind of detail talks about how much love(and research) the people of Red Project put into this game.

For your information Bolts. Quotes of NPCs differ depending on spoken language. For example in Tussount in english you can hear Winter is coming, but not in polish audio setup. So many of your finds are unique for English version only.

There is also one EASTER egg that many people didn't notice. If you're in the barons castle and keep walking around you'll hear 2 guards talking "BRING OUT THE GIMP." - "BUT THE GIMP IS SLEEPING." - "WELL I GUESS YOU JUST HAVE TO WAKE HIM UP NOW, DON'T YOU?" They are talking about Uma and the reference is from Pulp Fiction
