@Feefs21 thank you! Yes I totally agree with you about the confidence thing... It's a learnt behavior and it took me awhile to get where I am today. I'm 30 years old as well and I'm really just coming into my own. Yes I admit I wish I had your confidence in school they bullied me so bad just for being darker than them I couldn't imagine if my hair was like it is now also
@moniquehandy7103 Thank you 💚💚 yes I'm 30 years old now so I get it. In hindsight, it's like damn I wish I was a tad more confident when I was in high school because I had every reason to be (if I could've just gotten outta my own head!) But those teenage years are the time when we feel most awkward and insecure and gradually we start to feel into and nurture our essence we are as we get older. So as someone who was teaching in a high school, I def give my young girls grace and love and just try to be an example they will see and remember.

8:46 I believe this feeling comes from the natural-ness of it all, being nature, being free (as you mentioned). It’s that inner bliss of knowing this is you, all of you. No glam in the mirror needed, but just your inner beauty shining through and reflecting as your external self 🥲💜 It’s why we shine so bright! I feel as though that’s why those of us on this supposed “journey” have this extreme admiration and love for ourselves; we literally have to lol. @Samara Israel -- yess and yes, imagery is frames our thoughts whether people wanna believe it or not. I see it first hand being in the high schools -- it's a certain image they hold to high regard and many of them don't look at the "why." To be fair, I didn't either when I was their age lol. But of course I look at beauty in a whole different light now and my locs are opening my eyes to appreciate the journey of my/our natural hair and not just the aesthetics. This sounds just like me. I’ve only had 3 re-twists and I just hit 6 months. Started with a grid but just kinda got lazy. Still thinking about keeping up with the re-twists but I like the free form look as well. Yours look so good!
@ZipporahP Yess I get it haha! I went back and forth so many times on whether to keep up my retwists. Tbh I was more afraid that my locs would form in a way that I would lose versatility with my hair. Now, I don't really think like that tho...I just enjoy the process and I like the way its coming along. You do what feels most comfortable to you as your loc journey progresses -- it's your crown 👑☺️💗
I’m the same I just had my first retwist at 2 months…I decided that I’m gonna get a retwist every 2 months for my first 6 months then I’m gonna do every 3 months…my loctician thinks I’m crazy lol I only allowed her to retwist the roots no palm rolling at all, I just want as less manipulation as possible ✨

What's funny is when I was 18 or so, I would say, "I'll starts dreads when I'm about 40 and have two kids" lol I have NOO idea why that age, but the want to start my locs came naturally after my son was born and I happened to be 28 then. So glad I came across your video because I'm 4 months into my loc journey and my texture looks similar to yours. The frizziness! The thickness! My locs look super frizzy and I'm working on embracing the frizziness and natural messiness of it all. It's an adjustment. I'm also a high school teacher too. My expression comes through my outfits moreso, than my hair because I have always kept my hair covered with headwraps even when I was a loose natural to work, but the headwraps always coordinate with my outfit. A lot of my boy students have started or starting their loc journey and I shared with some of them that I started my loc journey. They have happily welcomed me into the community. LOL! I'm loving this journey even if I don't fully understand my hair and what it's doing. This video has encouraged me. Thank you!

I alwaysss miss my fro tbh (even at 2+ years loc'd!!) but there is something so unique and inspiring about watching my locs grow, change, get chaotic, mirror where I am in life and so on. I think about cutting my locs from time to time but at this point I care more about not surrendering to the immediate 'want' and I'm grateful that I don't give in. Peace ✌🏾 firstly, thank you for watching and supporting my channel 💚 Now, if I'm understanding what you're asking...you had twists at the start but when some unraveled, you end up putting those in 3-strand plaits? The only way I can see that altering the course of your loc journey, tbh, is if you created the plaits a different size (i.e. much larger plaits). But I'm guessing you kinda kept the same grid and I can't imagine that will really make a difference. The hair is still binding, weaving, and shedding into itself to form a loc. Over time you'll lose pattern regardless. Now that said, I started freeforming pretty early into my journey so I can only speak from my experience. I hope this helps and happy loc journey 💚

The best best best person/channel I can think to recommend from a freeform locs viewpoint (and there are sooo many on YT at this point) is a channel called 'Mayowas World'... I feel like her journey was def divine and she's years in at this point so you get to really see where she started.
I don’t think you are semi free form if u have started to let congos form . I thought semi free form was not retwisting but still separating the roots ?
@Blackgirlwithease yeah, the whole semi/freeform classification is interesting! I personally feel that I freeform lol but I did start my locs with two-strand twists and a grid. I think true freeformers start without a grid and just allow their hair to form without manipulation.
Thank you for watching! ☺️ Ok so firstly, my hair had a little length to it before loc'ing. Once I started my locs, about five to six months in, I completely stopped separating or manipulating my hair. I literally just allow my hair to catch the shower water in the morning and sometimes I will spray it thoroughly at the root if I feel the need to. I wash it with black soap maybe once a month. And I just give it space to grow! You should def check out my 1 year loc video to see that my hair went through major shrinkage before it started sprouting.
@@moormindful Wow very nice! Mine now is finger lenght and I can say im guilty of mamipulating it..but just 10mim a day and aboit the same at night. Did you apply anything to your hair? Like oils, hair growth and so on?
Yeah it's really tough to keep your hands out your hair lol, and tbh I think it's wise to massage your scalp to activate it and have it produce it's natural oils. As for oils -- I do use vitamin E oil on my scalp cus it's very dry! In the winter, I was using castor oil for the same reason -- combat the dryness. I'm still learning what works for my dry scalp tbh so Im trying new soaps here and there. I'll def do a video update on this ☺️
