In the 2019-2020 east coast bushfires, the Sikhs became accidental heroes. Their religion requires service to people in need, so when towns were evacuated, the Sikhs got in trucks and drove hundreds of km's to get there. They borrowed kitchens from evacuated restaurants and cooked vegetarian food for anyone who needed it.

Please don’t think that using the c word is ok everywhere. It would still be considered very rude in a lot of settings and by a lot of people. Other than that, we do love a good swear.

Yeah, I mainly hear that word being used by creeps catcalling a random girl or woman, (screamed out in an offensive way), on the street. After the girl/woman has not responded positively to sexual harassment. So, it’s not a harmless word to me.

Can't stand swearing myself. I actually don't like any form of cursing. My opinion is that people who find the need to use unpleasant curse words to express themselves, don't have a good command of the English language ❤ The English language is so descriptive on its own, without needing to adulterate it. ❤ By the way, I don't have a beef about any state, but don't mind having a bit of a joke to stir someone up 😂. I love Western Australia and would love to live in Perth, Victoria is okay, but the constant roadworks can be annoying, NSW is great because my rellies live there, although the Toll roads are extremely annoying. I love Queensland but not in Summer when it's humidity is hard to cope with, love the scenery near Cairns etc, plus I also have family there. Never been to NT or Tasmania but would love to visit both. Cheers from South Australia. You are a great ambassador for Aus!❤

General rule of thumb, not in a formal setting like a wedding or bank. Perhaps outside having a yarn with only the person you're talking to within earshot. And generally a green light if they've got tatts, are smoking own a commadore or have a car stuck out the front in long grass with at least two dogs

I’m the same as you. I’m the only one in my extended family who has no interest in sport. My dad played football for Victoria, is in the Cricket Australia records for bowling out Don Bradman and Bert Oldfield on the same day in 1933 and was in the Prime Minister’s XI cricket team. I’m very proud of him though but not just for his sporting prowess. He was one of those quiet, lovely Australian men who never bragged, got on with everyone, had a terrific sense of humour and a great love of the English language. I think there’s probably a lot of Australians who have these positive traits. I never heard my dad swear at home but maybe he tossed in a “bloody” once or twice at his local pub on Friday nights. The rise in swearing these days bothers me in its increased profanity and is only matched by the rise in hard porn. (Any blustering readers who deny this should look up the article by Dr Norman Doidge, the Canadian psychiatrist who wrote “The Brain That Changes Itself”, about neuroplasticity.) This topic is a real eye opener for society to think about. It takes up a complete chapter in his book but there’s also a précis on it if you search for his name + pornography.

Yes shout your workmates a beer on Friday, and if you go to the races and win shout an extra round of drinks and everyone will think you're a good bloke! Choose a sport or cheer for a local sports team, even of you never go to a match or event, and know who won or lost over the weekend! We mostly keep Sundays for our family, and most homes have a man shed, barbecue and cricket set! 🤔

I was definitely glad to live in this era in time and not a few centuries ago. When it comes to the next story, I'm about to tell. As I've pointed out, Mum lost track of her family members, which led to an interesting occurrence. Mum and I moved from Brissie (Brisbane) to The Atherton Tablelands, Far North Queensland, where she's originally from six months before I finished primary school (I'm not sure what the Brits call it). I was born in Brissie and grew up there until that point in my life. To be specific, the Nundah/Wavell Heights area on the northside of Brissie. The Atherton Tablelands is up a mountain range behind Cairns. The temperatures are generally much cooler than the coast. With rainforests, waterfalls, and lovely freshwater places to swim. Our normally normally green rolling hills aren't currently looking their best due to the current lack of rain. But it certainly hasn't stopped our usually high flow of tourists. The locals are friendly (well, after all, we're Aussies). We especially international tourists. I had fun shopping at our local Woollies (Woolworths) supermarket yesterday, hearing so many different accents and languages. We missed that during Covid. I'll tell my story in a fith comment.

Yes isolation is a reason Aussies are welcoming. Everyone lives in a city and work in other suburbs so after work you may not have much contact with people unless there's a work function. Waiting for things is a pain... Former Prime Minister Paul Keating called it the arse end of the world. Work life balance is a problem when you have to drive far to work... can be stuck in traffic for hours sometimes. Sport is a way of showing the world it isnt irrelevant because 50 years ago it was... Aussies dont really do politics so you have to do sport...

2 THINGS YOU SAID WERE WRONG Since you're making a video for the newcomers THEY SHOULD KNOW THE TRUTH 7:50 - 8:12 - NOT ACTUALLY TRUE Aussies from other states DO NO "Generally" dislike or hate Aussies from other states. it's more of an On going joke. its more tradition than anything else now to just poke fun at them but there is no actual hatred. it's most fun to poke fun at Tasmanian's ... that is Definitely true. Now... You said "EVERY ANIMAL IS NOT ACTUALLY TRYING TO KILL YOU" - THIS IS ACTUALLY INCORRECT.... Every Animal in Australia IS ACTUALLY Trying to kill you and if that wasn't bad enough, then you have... BINDIES

Later, his grandpa told me about his being a distant relative of the British royal family. Legally, you can marry your first cousin or a third cousin by Australian law. Well, Queen Victoria was still on the thrown when they started making arrangements for our federation. They weren't about to declare marriages like hers illegal in Australia. No matter how many of us couldn't handle the idea of marrying our first cousin. But I couldn't help but think that a few centuries ago in England, Dwyane's Great Uncle, his Lordship might have tried arranging a marriage. I'm not exactly sure of the old English marriage laws where, like in past centuries. But we were friends and not in love with each other, but that wasn't really considered back then. Anyway, that's why I'm glad that we live in Australia, during this era. Just one last comment on a different subject, cricket.

British people are definitely obsessed with their class system, especially the higher ones. Personally, I just find it any interesting piece of information that theirs a Lordship in my mother's side of the family. I mentioned him to a couple of English tourists who turned out to be a Lord and Lady themselves. All of a sudden, all they wanted to know was his name and address. They didn't really want to keep talking to me after I admitted that I hadn't met my second cousin whose current Lord. Grandpa was one of at least nine children. Mum pretty much lost track of her cousins' families after she got married and moved away in the 1950s. I know some of the late Lord's family members, but I haven't met his successor yet. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mum and I couldn't attend his funeral. See the next comment to read my experiences with him.

I do not think it's true that a person's place on the hierarchy matters most to those at the higher end. A lot of working class people have an ingrained mistrust and resentment, to put it tactfully, towards random people in the middle class, especially the upper middle class, that the middle class do not have feel about them.

The first time I came across the late Lord was at a rather formal funeral for my Great Aunty. Even though he was just an old gentleman with a walking stick, I couldn't help feeling a bit intimidated when they kept referring to him as "His Lordship." A few years later, Mum and I we're standing around looking at a display of photos at our local show (Fair) because it marked an anniversary of it inception that year. I expressed a disappointment about their being nothing about my Grandpa, who was a famous wood chopper in his day. He was even commissioned to chop before the king at one stage. He decided to use the money to marry and set up a house with my Grandma instead. Anyway, back to my story. I mentioned his name to a gentleman who was there with a little boy. He turned out to be mum's cousin, the Lord. We had a lovely conversation and hugged a couple of times. He was just a lovely, warm, kind man. I didn't want to burst that titled couple's bubble by saying that he had lived in just an ordinary house. I mentioned them in my last comment.

Here's some things my brother who followed a pretty English tourist back home from Australia found weird about British culture. Being a born and bred Aussie. He currently lives in Devon. The strangest has to be how people couldn't seem to be able to pronounce his name Greg. He gets called Craig a lot. Whenever he goes to a pub, everyone wants to buy him drinks. Upon hearing his accent, they assume that he's a heavy drinker when he usually only has one. How violent mothers with prams can get if you try looking where you're going whilst walking down busy streets. At least one mother deliberately ran into him before he decided to stop looking where he was walking. It still frustrates that he can't usually buy something to drink right there and then at a chippy. In Australia, pretty much every town, etc, has at least one good Takeaway. Which sells fish and chips, hamburgers, various hot foods, packets of chips (crisps), lollies (sweets or candy 🍬), choccies (chocolates), icecreams, hot as well as cold drinks. I'm starting a second comment.

Be persistent and willing to try formwork elsewhere in the country. It's a pretty big place to find somewhere

@@davidhoward4715 I was "taking the piss", it's an Australian past time (though I've got to admit my sense of humour is sometimes so subtle that even I don't get it....)

One of the reasons that us Aussi’s are so happy and get on with other people is because we trust our government and politicians. Over here they are trustworthy, they have our best interests at heart and never tell us lies or try to manipulate us. Take Covid and climate change for instance! I love it here. We go down the beach all of the time, sit in circles and hold hands singing Kumbaya!

In the 90s, Queensland started high school in grade 8. That's when I met a boy named Dwayne whom I befriended over time. He eventually developed a huge crush on me, even telling his grandma all about it. Then, one day, when we were in grade 12, mum came home with a family tree and said, "That name see looks familiar." He turned out to be her cousin's grandson. His grandma and his Lordship were brother and sister. I planned to pull him and gently tell him about our being related the next day. Unfortunately, as a teenager girl, I had a hard time holding my tongue. The following morning, we had a school parade. I told the girl sitting next to me about it, the girl on the other side of her then yelled out, "Hey Dwyane, Larissa's your cousin!" I felt so badly for him over the level of shock and embarrassment he suffered. After everyone was getting up to leave, I saw him still glued to his seat and bright red. While he's a handsome guy, he's only ever been a friend of mine. Here comes a sixth comment.
