And the most important thing and i am telling you as an italian…never refer in ANY way about the mandolin stereotype or the meatballs on pasta. The italians would never put meatballs on pasta and the mandolin is not used by modern italians since the 50 i think.

I'd liko to add this to the list: asking friends a bit of their food to taste is totally ok, especially if you offer a bit of yours as an "exchange", but is generally considered rude to ask the first or the last bit of the meal.

When I went on a school trip to Italy, one of my classmates tried to ask for the price of something by saying "cosa nostra" instead of "Quanto costa?" :D The shop assistant was already about to call the police when he realized that my classmate simply didn't speak Italian :D

In Italy also exists pizza al taglio which means that you can buy pieces of pizza and not only a whole one… in family I ate pizza made by hand and cooked in forno a legna… after that it was cut into small pieces, shared with the family and drinking a good Italian beer… definitely a lovely experience!

When I was working in a small town in Italy as part of a festival, I had to eat every meal at a restaurant or bar because my accommodations had no place for me to cook or to keep food. It was very awkward and too expensive for me to eat out for every meal. Therefore, I resorted to buying a panino at a little shop and eating it while sitting on the steps. There was a pizza vendor who sold squares of pizza from a cart on the corso. How could we eat it except on the street while walking? There were no options. In situations like this for visitors/tourists, what do you recommend? Grazie mille.

to all the foreigners here, mind that these rules are a bit simplified (so that the video doesn't get too tedious i guess). for those who want to dig deeper, here are a few exceptions: -rule 1: you can also say "salve" which is half formal and totally ok with staff in shops. -rule 3: remember that you're gonna be laughed at a litlle but you're gonna be served your cappuccino anyway -rule 4: actually you can have a savory breakfast at the bar(that's how the coffee shop is called, cause it also serves alchol) if you like the tramezzino, that little triangular no crust sandwich all bars have. just keep in mind they ALL have mayo in them and you can't ask for variations because they come from an external bakery most of the times. my dad used to have tomato and tuna tramezzino next to a cappuccino (weird) all the times. -rule 5: many central italy fish dishes have pecorino or mozzarella in them. never parmigiano though. -rule 7: in bars you can totally have a glass of tap water for free especially if you buy something else -rule 9: some foods are considered ok to eat while walking. we have street food too _rule 10: you can totally share pizza if you agree on it before ordering. more often you trade slices though. like: "what about a slice of my diavola (pepperoni) for a slice of your boscaiola(mushroom and sausage)?" -rule 13: ...it depends. region, age, income, subculture. but yeah, statistically speaking, we don't have the issue of alchol abuse

I'm italian. Cappuccino is my favourite type of coffee to get at a cafè since I need milk in my coffee to be able to drink it without stomach ache, I never had problems getting a cappuccino done for me even in the afternoon, tough in the evening to avoid weird looks I'd always go for a caffè macchiato (the latte macchiato of the video, which is called caffè macchiato in the region of italy where I live)

I was confused by caffè/lungo in Italy. Maybe because I'm a foreigner, sometimes when I ordred a "caffè" I was obviously given a ristretto, but sometimes it looked more like a lungo, so I didn't always know what I was drinking. Also about water in restaurants, I once was asked by the waiter if I needed water (I was drinking wine), and he gave me a glass bottle of tap water.

I absolutely love this video! I had heard about the no cappuccino after midday. The waiter that refused to bring the cheese for the fish was hilarious 🤣! The way the customer said “awww” I felt so bad, he was so disappointed.

As a German it is impossible to not be recognized as a tourist in Italy😂 even if I try.

Another important thing : when you pay the dinner with your friends they may use the “alla romana” paying, wich is different from “alla rumena” paying. The first consist to equally split the dinner bill with your friends. The second (less used) is to run away from the restaurant/pizzeria without paying. Have a nice day folks

As i live in Italy i know that italian people are really serious and obsessed when it comes to food, they talk about it almost everytime 😂😂
