When they're that young their brains are like sponges. Meals cooked, all the free time in the world too. Best time to get good. Kids get obsessive too.
The kid just oozes feel. His technique, phrasing and pocket are spot on too. A natural... respect to Tyler for giving him space to shine. He's a better player... and only 14!
I'm a drummer from Newcastle, Australia and I played a gig about 6 years ago where Taj joined in with Sweet Child o' Mine. I could instantly tell he was gonna be a major talent.
its interesting in his early videos hes playing Gnr and then Pink Floyd. I suspect he started on gtr younger than 7 (after ACDC concert as he claims). His dad played but his dad was quite evasive when asked who taught taj. Saying at 7 then playing videos at 7 eemms more impressive, but if he started at 5 then hes been playing for 10yrs already so its less impressive, esp since hes homeschooled and his parents book tours so he can play all day
Taj and his whole family are wonderful. We have a mutual friend who got us together when he was playing fairly local to me, so I could bring the twin guitar I built for Eric Gales to let Taj try out. He is so humble and really welcomed me to hang out and talk guitars and gear. And SRV....we are both big fans. He even ended playing the guitar for a song in the set. Great hang. He deserves all the accolades.
Proud of our Aussie Taj. He is like a reincarnated combination of the best guitarists who ever existed. Tyler is a great player, and it is so cool to see a 14 year old play in an evenly matched jam with him. Does anyone else strike this as being a phenomenon ? Add to that, he is such a likeable kid and no blown ego. I am a player, but I am totally amazed. and with epic admiration.🎸🎸
What I like most is how nice and mature he is. He doesn’t let ego get into his personality and that’s so refreshing especially for such a young and talented musician.
In the mid-90's I saw Nathan Cavaleri (another Aussie) playing at BB King's Blues Club in LA. He was about the same age that Taj is now, and BB had flown in from Memphis that night just to see the set. Nathan was impressive in his playing and maturity, and Taj has shown he's got both of those attributes by the bucketload. Must be something in the water down under, lol. Here's wishing Taj continued success as his career grows!
The "Jamming to demonstrate what feel is" part was absolutely beautiful. It could have been a song/track alone. Reminded me a lot of Buckethead and some of Rob Scallon's earlier songs, namely "Rain" and "For That Second". Impressive for a kid this young being that talented
I'm an Aussie, live sound guy (formally for Phil Emmanuel amongst many other bands), and guitarist and I would like to say, on behalf of all Aussie guitarists, this kid is a national treasure. I honestly hope he goes as far in the music industry as he wants to go. I've seen other 'kids' that have close to his level of talent that have been pushed too hard by parents or mentors and burned out way too young. It seems like Taj is in good hands though. His dad seems to have the boys best interest and well being in mind so I really look forward to seeing where this dude goes in the future.
Taj is such a cool kid yet mature beyond his years, and damn, what a player. I hope he stays on track and doesn’t succumb to fame and fortune. I’ve seen his parents interviewed too and they seem to have their parenting heads on straight. Love his ear for tone and where, when to play his parts. Not just a hey, look how fast I can play these runs, kind of player. He’s got soul. That’s a cool guitar too. Like his playing, again understated but awesome tone. Excellent hang, Tyler, please have him on again down the road.
So glad you interviewed Taj - keep this handy in the archives, for when he goes legendary status and you can show this discussion about way back when. I think he’ll be all that, we’ve seen Taj a few times and he brings the emotional guitar sound every time.
Been following Taj since the beginning and he will be around for a long time if he keeps his head on his shoulders like he has been and not lose the Passion. Taj beyond a shadow of doubt is Gifted! One thing is sure, you both need to play more together! Awesome Collab playing guys!
The kid can really play beautifully 24:08 . His sliding note style is mostly his own and he puts more feeling into it than many top players. Its not all about who plays the fastest arpegios ..he is fast , but the kid has feeling
To be honest, I am SO JEALOUS of this generation of kids that have endless learning opportunities. I remember having to search and search and search for barely decent material. I think that we are going to see and hear some crazy new stuff. Plus we’re due for a Beatles/Nirvana shake up anyways haha!
Because his dad is doing the right thing and keeping him independent and his age! Give it A couple years he's already been touring clubs and bars all over the US for a couple years now so he's built a fan base. It'll happen when he beomes a legal adult plus he's been playing cover. But now he's recording his own material so that'll boost him since he already is building a fan base.
That’s what I thought too. He isn’t just hitting the notes. He has a maturity in his playing that is rare even for guys who have been playing for years and years.
Man I can not belive it has already been seven years since we were blessed with listening to this young man!! Rock on Taj and stay true to you and keep clean man.
I love that you covered Taj, been watching him for years and so happy to see that he's getting the exposure he deserves. Also, love the description of syrupy, so perfect.
This young guy and you Taylor are sooo inspiring to watch, I'm currently not home so unable to grab my guitar at the mo but you've made me want to play it until my fingers bleed. Cheers
You are so lucky to have gotten this opportunity to chat with Taj! I’ve been following him since he was 7 and watching his progress! There is no other player like him! He’s awesome ❤️❤️❤️
I love this interview. Love to hear Tajs guitar sounds so sharp and sweet! Taj is full of info! They played so good together. I've been a fan of Tajs for almost 4 years now. He's amazing! Fancy Nancy 😍
Totally agree with his dad the knowledge you bring to the world is really incredible Tyler you deserve a lot of credit for inspiring the next generation of guitarists as well as some of us older ones to get back into it and improve 👌🏻
I say that to everyone I know that plays music I'm 52 we learned how to play guitar by using these old music books like I had John Denver's music book and it would have actual music notes and then above it would have this square with a bunch of dots in it showing the represented chord. So I think these kids today with the RU-vid I have so much more access to learning and learning what they want to learn. Not having to play like Mary Had a Little Lamb Peter but there's so many amazing guitarists that are so young and I'm just like God man if we'd have had this when I was a kid it would have helped out so much. Because the only time we could really ever learn anything was one if you went and found a good guitar teacher. The other was having a friend that was around the same level or way better than you how to teach you how to play and then there was the guitar magazines with the biggest shred table notes you've ever seen. So I think RU-vid has just taken guitar to a different level. RLTW 3/75
I’m pretty new to the channel and obviously the content is behind excellent. But what really gets me is how well you (Tyler) choose your words when speaking to people. It really comes off with a tone of humble wisdom and I can’t help but admire the message. RU-vid is sick. Love that people can spread so much awesomeness
Had the pleasure of meeting Taj and his dad at NAMM this past year. Such an awesome family. Such a great player. Hope he continues to inspire the young generation of players and future players.
Great Vid. Taj is an incredible guitarist. Wish he would demonstrate how he switches his pick from behind his index finger while he finger picks then transfers it back and forth with such ease.
I have watched him since he was young and finally this Nov will get to hear him in person! Hope this 72 yr old will remember what it's like to be in a club but could not miss the chance to see him play!
He’s awesome. Saw Taj back in and around Feb 2024 at Hot Monk Brew Pub in NorCal. Just an incredible guitar player at his young age and we all know he’ll just get better🤘 Ps. Taj’s comment on emotion with the guitar is so true for him. When I saw him play, the guitar become an extension of him. He’s a very emotional player when he’s on stage. Pss. Where can we purchase those Taj’s picks? They look sweet.
What amazes me is that 67 years ago when I had already been playing well over 30 going on 40th and was a fairly seasoned musician this guy was just getting started and within four months with better than most guitar players I know no that's not saying much about the guitar players I know but it's saying quite a bit about this guy who is unbelievable
He’s great for 14. I had a band that was playing small school gyms when I was 12. So I get it. But he needs to hang in and work on his technique- can’t wait to catch him in 3 years!
Not much wrong with his technique. I've watched his live playing quite a bit. He is insanely good. We only had the barest glimpse of his talent and his capabilities here. I've been around listening and playing guitar for 50+ years. I've never seen such a mature talent at his age.
"maybe we could just post a few more videos"...sure Team Farrant. And Angus comin' outta the earth playin' "You Shook Me"...nuff said Tajy! We now see how much that experience has shaken you straight over the pond. Welcome. And we all thank your whole family too!
Hi Tyler, What a quality interview man. Would love to see this format from you with other artists too. Looks like you have a lot of fun with it and it shows in the resulting post. Cheers 🤟
His tone is incredible!! So warm and dynamic… and it’s not just the guitar/p90s… you can even here how vastly different his tone is compared to Tyler’s when he played the same guitar at the end of the video
I have been following Grace for quite a bit & now you have inspired me w/Taj just found your channel makes me pick up my guitar more often as Ricky Comiskey says who am I playing for me. So inspiring thanks so much! By the way I’m 62 started in 1976 but never as committed as I have been this year.
First time here, beem following Taj since AGT, and this is my favorite interview of Taj, learned so much cool stuff about Taj... and the jamming was great also by both ot you, thank you.
