I am from Ontario, Canada. My Uncle Norman Sullivan is buried in Holten. His whole tank crew were killed April 28th, 1945, just 9 days before the war ended. Seeing this brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart so. I wish his brother, my father, could have seen this before he passed. Some of his very last memories were of Norman. I cannot thank the people of Holten enough for this continued tribute. A million thanks.

What a wonderful video. My Brother in Law was killed in Germany and then moved to Holland, I am not sure where he was buried, but Groesbeek comes to mind, my husband went over there to visit his grave in the 80's and went to buy flowers at a florist and they woudn't take any money from him as he said they were so proud of the Canadians. Thank you for posting this.

Amazing. I visited Holten in May with my family, such an incredible experience. My great uncle George McMahon is buried there. I also have a great uncle buried in Groesbeek. I was left speechless over the immaculate condition these cemeteries are in, so much respect! Thank you Holten! Merry Christmas :)

I had already commented on this video. In doing my family genealogy, I've now discovered atone of my relatives is buried here. Orville Clarence Morden VI. A. 1 section. Please light a candle for him. Canadians give their lives so others may be free. Let's not let them rest alone. Let's remember them with respect and honour, because that's how they died. Respectfully and honourably. I thank the Holten children and people for this.

I always know the Netherlands had great respect for Canadian veterans. This is very touching especially over the holidays for those who have veterans in our families, for those that no longer do and for those they fought to protect and save. Thank you.

What a wonderful way for the good folks of Holten to pay tribute to the young Canadian men who gave their lives all those many years ago. And how great it is that the young peole are involved to learn how and why they live in freedom, Many thanks to the people of Holten and Holland for never forgetting. I give thanks that I have not had to experience the horror of warfare and hope my 12 yr old son can say the same. A Proud Canadian.

I found myself crying watching this video it was so moving. Thank you to the children of Holten and all who keep this tradition of honouring fallen soldiers wherever they lie. I was recently in New Zealand and a group of teenagers were on the steps of a cenotaph smoking pot.. It was obvious they had no respect for their fallen soldiers. It was only a few days after November 11th. There were no wreaths or signs of Remembrance Day. I guess they remove any wreaths in that country?

@TOLady Thank you for your kind words. As a teacher, it really disturbed me that our children, because we have been so insulated from the horrors of war, only look at our soldiers as old people who died so that I can have all my toys etc......but it is not their fault! I just wanted them to see what other children do on Xmas eve to show their compassion and appreciation.

it is Wonderful to see the School Children, and Adults alike of Holten Pay their Respect to Some Canadian Soldiers who paid the Supreme Sacrifice for them Many Years ago. You can Never Repay these Gallant Men for their great Sacrifice, But We can Honor Their Memory, and the Fine Gesture of the Citizens and Students of Holten is doing Exactly That Bless you all

Words cannot adequately describe how awesome it is to see our soldiers honoured in this way. We have always heard of how the Netherlands remembers and honours the sacrifices of our Canadian soldiers since the war but this is truly inspirational. I wish we Canadians were half as committed to our veterans and those that made the supreme sacrifice.

@umbisss .......I would, if I were you, put this ceremony on your "Bucket List" and also take the chance to visit Holland. Do you realize that someone from either the Holten area or other place in Holland makes a point of visiting your uncle's grave at least once a year. I understand this responsibility is even passed down from generation to generation.

@avance1979 I agree, although unlike yourself I did not know of my Dutch roots until 1973 when relatives came to Canada to visit. Since then there has been over 25 crossings between family and of course we are like immediate family to each other. I am glad you enjoyed the video as it was my way of bringing attention to the people of Canada how grateful the Dutch are.

@shtfly No, Sir...............Thank you to YOU! Because of you I nor any of my family have had to see war.
