140H Grader 

My dream is to operate this machine. It looks incredibly fun. I have been watching videos and reading owners manuals trying to learn tricks so if I do ever get the chance of a life time to to run one, I wont be completely lost. I watch this video all the time

Actually, for any of you who want to start out and learn to operate a grader (any make, any size), this is the place to start....you will get to learn all of the basic control functions and be able to improve your performance while not really screwing up the job...no peg lines to follow, no engineer screaming at you and any mistakes are easily fixed (and that will form part of your learning anyway). I well remember a time, about 45 years ago, almost begging the boss to let me get off the D8 and have a go on the grader...luckily, he agreed and in the following years, ended up being pretty darn good at it. I'm retired now, but miss the job very much. If you want to do it, don't give up...just keep asking for the chance.

To a slight degree you can steer with the wheel tilt. It also allows you to cut down your turn radius, but the main function is to help counter the pull of the blade. Depending on which side you have the majority of the load on the grader sometimes tries to pull and you can tilt the wheels away to keep the front from sliding. You also side shift the circle and blade as well as articulate to keep the force in the "center" of the grader. A lot of things to consider when planning your passes!

I can't get over how good you are on every machine. You must of grown up on all of them I am a bit jealous I am on a 336D full time. Nice shovel but I feel like a one trick pony

Yes you can adjust the wheel lean to compensate for pull on the blade. Sometimes it is from the blade trying to "skate" and sometimes it's from heavy cutting on one side.

@CATLGP Wheel tilt was designed to counter the pulling force of the blade. The blade doesn't need to be adjusted unless the front wheels are being dragged, as they are not there is no need to adjust the blade any more due to the wheel tilt doing what it was designed to do. You've noticed the wheel tilt being used to aid turning however it doesn't have to be used all the time and it's left tilted in preparation to take up the force of the large pile at the end of the row. It kept pulling me so I added a little lean to compensate. I wasn't actually blading the dirt, I was pulling up all the bushes and grass hence the weird blade loads.

@cjken1968 Read the explaination on wheel tilt a few comments down. If I were doing something like blading a road you'd be correct as the blade would be trying to "skate" but I'm pushing a large windrow of grass with the heel and lightly smoothing ruts with toe. This makes more pull on the heel so the wheels are tilted the other way to counteract.

when you get into the vegetation like that, roll your mold board forward, that will help with processing of the material including the weeds, grass and dirt.

@selssius You're hearing the hydraulic metering valve in the steering wheel and the brass washers between the control levers I think.

Was the right wheel leaned to the right to compensate for the left angle on the scraper blade? Besides all the steering you were doing, your hands were busy with all the control levers. It doesn't look like you get a chance to take a sip of coffee very often while driving the grader. Thanks for the video!

Well the lean direction would depend on where the load in the blade is now wouldn't it? Most of the load was from the massive pile of grass I was pushing.

@chrdub89 i have a tip for ya. open all doors and windows when running and don't run the levers like a dozer. also, try not to keep your wheels leaned to the right for every pass... :)

Just smoothed everything out so there weren't any major holes or ruts. The big thing was to get all the weeds down. While I was going around I also tried to make everything drain better as I know that "parking lot" has had some issues (I race motorcycles on the smaller paved track just past the lot and riding my street bike through there has sucked a couple times).

I have always wanted to know, what does the tilting of the steers do? the only thing I can think of is that it makes the grader pull in the opposite direction of the plow so it could drive in a straight line better? lol....just putting it out there! lol

I'm working on a few more grader ones it's just difficult to get the right camera angle.

Not sure on the year but it IS a VHP.

Hey bud, I just recently was put on a blade an I think I do ok, but do you have an tips. You seem to have it down lol

you sould lay your front wheels into the cut,for what you are doing it kinda a waste anyway,just looks cool

Why do you keep the front tiers angeld the wrong way most of the time??? Bad for tiers and stering abilety.

You sems to be a good driver and I wasen´t there so if you say so ;) just semed akward to me after 15 year in a grader but i dont have the wole pikture. wod let you drive my maskines any day do ;)
