LET'S PLANT!
EP 141 - The Cactus and Succulent Society of Australia 2019 Competition
It's finally here! This is the full video containing the clips that I filmed during this year's competition. If you were wondering about how the judging process is handled, you can watch one of the previous episodes (EP 139).
The competition is divided into 2 divisions:
1. Novice - members who have been in the society for 1-4 years (you can only join the competition after being a member for a year)
2. Open - members who have been in the society for 5 or more years
The competition is divided into multiple classes. Each division has Novice and Open version, there is also a division where both types of members can participate (the classes marked 5xx and 6xx towards the end).
For your convenience here's timestamps of each class in the video:

Chuck, wonderful, excellent job in capturing the name of the plants and then showing the plant itself. I learned a lot from seeing the correct identifications of the plants. It must have been hard work, and I appreciate your passion and love for these plants. Keep up the excellent work!! You are the best.

Chuck! From one who edits video to another - stella effort!! Kudos to you for going through loads of video, editing and producing lower thirds and callouts - that is one massive feat - and its longer than a feature film! Now to the video - OMG it was inspirational and relaxing to watch! What did you think of the competition and the variety? Do you think you will add in any other species to your Echies and Aeoniums? Again, amazing work!! I hope your garden is holding up in all this windy weather we are having!

You have no idea how happy I am to read this, I feel so validated haha! I have a few mistakes here and there due to copying and pasting over the motion graphics templates (I recently learned how to do MOGRTs too!) so some names are repeated. Alex has found them all for me and indicated the timestamps in his comments haha! Regarding expanding my collection, not likely, at least not anytime soon. I might expand on the ones that I already have though. I have a bunch of haworthia / gasteria / aloe in the ground which I didn't consider potting up to bring to the competition. I think a few of them are show worthy!

Cerriscapades question, the Monanthes, is that a from Crassula? If that makes any sense. Family Crassula, species/genus/form Crassula whatever lol. It looks like a sedum/Crassula but it’s lovely! Like a big pot of apple jellybeans.

Here are few suggestions to make your videos better. The first hour- waste of time to film (Home Depot level plants, have nothing against Home Depot but nothing there should be filmed for SHOW quality) I had short glimpse of hundred if not thousands of amazing artistic and horticultural achievements but only saw what you was interested. Why only short glimpses of whole tables ?. Why not take wide sweeps of whole tables ? slow and deliberate ? from one end to the other? I could see all that was there and if I want to see closer I could pause the video. Thank you for your report, I enjoyed some of your choices to film and some of your closeups.

Hi Chuck! I've been catching up on your channel and totally binge-watching all the episodes that lead up to the succulent competition. Congratulations on all your wins - wish some of those lovelies didn't get disqualified based on the size confusion. You know exactly what to do next year! It was really cool to watch a competitor's thought process from the very beginning, to see what happens behind the scenes and how much prep goes into it, and getting to see the entire show is a treat! Thank you :)

Very cool I really liked these enough to copy a name and look more into them... Sedum furfuracum lol lovin the fur fur part lol easy to remember sedums can be common but they always have a beautiful shape I collected several from friends or my mom's plants they can multiply like crazy being a low growing ground cover with beautiful flowers I think we have 3 kinds here #1 yellow flowers tiny leaves... #2 white flowers bit bigger leaf and round #3 same leaf size but more purple colors when stressed pointy leaf... These are all hardy down to 40 below and 4 feet of snow Ontario Canada... My sedums are messy I had a beautiful butterfly gaurd this garden the caterpillars could have it this year I will tidy it up in the spring... My friend has Sedum lawns 2 diff kinds I will have to bug her it will give you something beautiful to look at when your going into fall... Thanks for the plant chat...
