I’m glad you made the Heat Gun part into a “Short” it allowed me to find the full video. Learned that you can spray glue to adhere your subject to rout then use the heat bun to remove the paper 👍 Saving this video for future reference

I love your Blue Star Ranch sign, your lines are so perfectly straight,and curved, that is so impressing to me, it just amazes me!!! I hope to get there someday. Thank you for showing the safe way to begin, and end with a router.

Hey Eric, this was a GREAT presentation, thank you. I have a question about what you may have done to that scrap wood before you started today's video. Did you sand it before using the spray glue? Maybe you could use that as one of the coffee and question sessions. I have tried to spray glue on both the wood and the paper, let them dry then applied the paper to the wood, but it always seems to bunch up on me under the router, making it difficult to keep cutting. Any suggestions? Skip O'Brien
@oldave100
@oldave100 9 лет назад
Phottoman Skip are you using regular paper? That's what would happen to me when I did. Remember on video #137 I talked about using photo paper? It works so much better. Hope this helps buddy.

Finally found the video with a question I had. I have the big Bosch fix/plunge router. I do pretty good lines with it. I cannot wait to use the profile bit when it arrives. By the way guys, do you make base plates for the Bosch 2.25 hp.?
@oldave100
@oldave100 6 лет назад
Glad you found the video you needed. Hope the profile bit works well for you. Currently we don't have that base. However, there are 2 options. You could send us your base plate with the screws, and we can custom drill it for you. Or you can buy a blank plate from the website and drill it yourself for the mounting screws, you'll need the big one. (7x10).
@georgesmart239

Thanks Eric. One last question please. You used the profile bit initially to carve your lines and then changed the depth to clean out the inset wood. Why would you not just cut the pattern deeper and clean out the inset portions as you go? I assume it was to create the fine lines in between such intricate/small pattern. Am I correct?

Seem to have better control on my letter edges with the DW618 as to my DWP611. Does it matter on the(speed) when doing the fonts routing, is slower better? The weight of the routers seem to have a big factor to my control... The 618 weights a lot more then the 611 but they both have their place.... Need to be a lot more selective with my lumber selection....
@oldave100
@oldave100 9 лет назад
+Tim Rogers Some people like the heavier routers. I like the smaller ones for better control. I agree they both have their advantages. I always go full speed when working with a variable speed router. Thank you for your comments & for watching, Eric
@Kivavitch
@Kivavitch 9 лет назад
Like I say, I need to be more selective with my choices of lumber, watch the grain(tight)and for warping etc. Question, do you sand before you start routing(Cedar fence lumber), for a smoother surface to (play) work on? Thanks for your replies to my comments and questions....
@oldave100
@oldave100 9 лет назад
+Tim Rogers Yes I sand the face just smooth enough to work on. Don't want take off any more than necessary since they start out thin. Thank you, Eric
@Kivavitch
@Kivavitch 9 лет назад
Started sanding my boards before I start my project, surface seems to be a lot smoother to work on and the routers slide a lot better. I still need to be a lot more selective about my lumber, got one with a nasty grain to it but I was able to go back and make some corrections to my routing. Getting cold up here in Northern Az. Trees are turning, made my first fire for the year....

I've been using a foot switch to turn my router(s)(618-611)on/off, just for better control on start up. What are your thoughts on this method ?
@oldave100
@oldave100 8 лет назад
+Tim Rogers I think if that works for you sounds like a good plan.
@Kivavitch
@Kivavitch 8 лет назад
There are two types. The on/off foot pedal push switch and the foot pressure push pedal switch which I use on my Excalibur Scroll Saw, which stops the saw as soon as I remove my foot from the pedal.. Good for stopping the machine should a blade break.... Just another thought passing through.... Have a good one.. Got a Profile Bit coming your way, do you test these bits before sending them back ?
@oldave100
@oldave100 8 лет назад
+Tim Rogers I always test them. Got you bit in this morning. Sharpened it, tested it and shipped back out. You should have it soon. Thank you.

That bit seems way too big. Can one use a 1/8th inch shank adapter and use smaller more precision bits?

Why do you use the spray and brush on finish? Could you just use the brush on? Also on an unrelated topic I notice you have the date written on your sander. Why do you do that? I'm just curious.
@oldave100
@oldave100 8 лет назад
+Anthony Jannotti a couple reason for the spray first. To make sure that the finish seals up the entire sign first. Sometimes in the textured back round it's easy not to get it down in every nook & cranny. The second reason is that sometimes the brush on may effect the black & cause it to smear. The first 1 or 2 coast of spray prevent that from happening. I always try to put the purchase date on my tools so I know how long they last. Thank you for the questions, Eric
