WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

Love the look of that rock!! (Childhood memories of butterscotch pudding??) I really have to commend you for not breaking into long strings of cuss words (the scoring system is the length of the string of contiguous, non-repetitive cuss words)...I couldn't do it! It also brings up a whole line of new video content for you: "knotty problems." Those hard knots around internal flaws (tiny vugs/crystal pockets/fossils) that don't seem to percuss away and seem to grow and grow. Once they finally pop off (if the whole piece doesn't break in the process), the "mental relief" is wonderful--the reason why "Dr. Pimple Popper" became so popular! :)

Patrick, I've got it! I've seen sO many of your videos, and love the talk/knap videos. I've enjoyed the No talking equally. You are, the Godfather of f.p.s. knapping. Film style of a First Person Shooter video game. And a professional flint knapping demonstration. These might be some good poundsigns for your videos. Or what do the kids these days call 'em? Hashtabs? Hash tang? Oh hashtags. Peace out. Gonna watch the rest of the video.

This is a wonderful idea! I can do without all of the inane chatter which other knappers think I need to hear. It's much like watching football, where you understand the game but can do just fine by watching and again, not having to listen to mindless chatter! Thank you for caring.

8:54 i know that feeling. A mere hurdle for you though. I'm still learning. And i have yet to fully recover from the big hunks. At my best, i typically have a small island left. And then it's wonky and gets thrown back in the pile. The some other day pile. Edit Typo.

It's not that difficult, relatively speaking. As long as you have good, non-crumbly hammerstones and dense, dry antler.

Do you ever mess with people with those that you make. Like have an appraiser look at it and have him tell you that its hundreds or thousands of years old?

Interesting. You made a really nice hand axe before you converted it into something else as well as making a lot of nice large flakes that could be used for doing a lot of cutting. I suppose you will make some of them into points because you don't need them to cut jack.

I just want to ask the people who request no talk videos, why?
@user-ql3cf1oh8t
@user-ql3cf1oh8t Год назад
I think it's because when he is talking it kind of takes away from the way we perceive how he's napping and some people may think that it's boring to have somebody talking throughout the whole thing maybe personally I like it when he's talking but I think other people don't because they are not being able to put their own opinion to it to his work but I think it's better when he talks❤

is that bopper you use steel? ive been wanting to get into flintknapping and since i have a blacksmith background, i thought it may be cool to make my own tools for it. everyone i see uses copper but i havent seen one thats steel yet. would there be benefits of using steel? i can understand copper for smaller, more detailed work since the softer metal will remove smaller chips, but would steel work better for large removal? what about hardened steel?
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 2 месяца назад
Mild steel or wrought iron works much better than hardened steel. I think I used a 6061 aluminum bopper in this video.
