This is why I include a Gutting Disaster Recovery Document with my challenge locks. ATTENTION all those submitting challenge locks: Please include Gutting Disaster Recovery Document (or image file) This picture of the pinning tray revealing original pin arrangement will help in the case of any freak mishaps while gutting.
That's a fantastic idea. Something with pictures, so that when I inevitably screw up a gutting or drop a couple of pins I can get them back into the right place so we can figure out what the builder intended.
I do believe the joke was that even though there were pins within the lock, they were not needed to be picked. This was sidebar, or if you will sideball technology. Quite clever TJ. As always Bill, a fantastic presentation.
After seeing "the incident with the ball wall", I wholeheartedly sympathise with your nervous approach to gutting this lock. TJ has some terrifying ideas, bravo sir
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the joke was the lock didn't actually lock. The wallowed out keyway to prevent top of the keyway tension, the ball bearing being held in the core by the screw in the side of the bible could cause enough of a bind on the core to make it feel like it's locked.
I'm fairly certain the whole joke of this lock is to prevent you from tensioning it. The mod to the front to make it difficult to top of the key way tension, then the dent in the back is meant to stop the core from rotating with whatever tension tool you used I'd imagine. Thus, no binding pins and no feedback.
This is why I have so much respect for you, Bill, over many similar channels. If you can't get into a lock you say so. None of the ego massaging others go for.
I freaking love this video Bill when u gut the look you can here the mixture of confusion and fascination in your voice at the same time it's amazing lol hahaha
I am sad to see you go but I hope you enjoy stepping away. This video was one that really got me into locksport. I hadn't picked a lock at this point but seeing this locks inner workings really intrigued me. Thank you.
hi Bill love the channel. Just started to learn to lock pick and as todays my birthday my gf just got me a training lock and its all down to you . so thank you Bill
Loved this post. I have never seen a lock with so many crazy pins and gadgets to mess you up. And... You bet I will try to win the giveaway you are offering. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Bosnianbill Thanks to you and Lockpickinglawyer I decided to buy a set and started picking yesterday (shipment to EU took longer than expected). Love your videos and explanation.
Super congtatz to TJ for an awesome display of a brilliant design and precision manufacturing skills! The "Joke" was that I couldn't stop laughing at Bill being so "flustered" + mixing up all the parts -- Fantastic "joke" Mr. TJ
That was a very interesting lock TJ's. Thanks for sending that in, but for a challenge lock....um no, that was a mission impossible lock. Thank you for the video Bill.
Oh my god. You got that thing completely screwed up by the second pin. This might be the hardest one to watch. By the end of it you have it so wrong I can't even follow it anymore. Love your regular content. Thanks for sharing these.
Earlier this week, I finally popped open my Master No. 220. That, for some reason, was a challenge. I must have put over 12 hours into getting it open.
I bet if you populate the added chamber the cylinder will snag on it to mess with tensioning. It is commonly used in mechanisms to hold moveable parts in place by naturally stopping there but can still be overcome. Clearly TJ is a devious possibly deranged man and I am sure I'd enjoy his company.
Great craftsmanship on that lock, with a lot of time & thought put into it! It would be interesting to find out how many sign up for this weekend's drawing vs. last weekend's drawing. I don't think people were too impressed with those skull picks at $20 each. 🤔
I got completely lost while you were taking the lock apart. Sometimes I notice things you don't notice, but this time, I have no clue where half that stuff came from. Wow, I just realized you hadn't take the pins out of the core yet, geez. Maybe the "joker" part, is to cause complete confusion, if so, it worked on me.
agreed. I din't see it as a joke lock, but as a new kind of lock that hasn't shown its vulnerability yet. I would've sent a warning "not pickable by normal methods". It would be neat to have instructions on re-assembly, and shared by pickers to see if it can be opened in some way.
From what I could see, that ball bearing at the end had another indentation in the back so that when you align the dots the ball drops in and you can extract the core. As for the rest of the "joke"... This lock was beyond me.
You might think that things started going wrong when you didn't notice the three pin fall into the one slot, but I had a feeling things were going to go badly as soon as you chose a pinning tray that wasn't numbered.
I agree with you tool. It doesn't look like a joke to me!! It's the kind of lock I would actually pay extra for..because this very talented lock picker couldn't pick it!! Isn't THAT exactly what Everyone WANTS to buy?? I don't need to repin it..I will just buy a new one. However, I don't loose keys..I think it would be a great commercial production lock!! If HE doesn't want to patent it, then YOU should!! There is a lot of money laying on that table pal.
wow Bill what patience I am afraid that if it was me trying to do this first it would end up in the skip followed by me with my wrists cut not before putting a hit on the sadistic s.o.b who put this evil thing together (very cleaver man) great video you deserve a medal haha
If I were to have made a joke lock.. I'd just fill each cylinder with the thinnest mastering disks I could find.. Very messy.. and about as secure as your average Master lock.. :P
No idea, need some explanation on that part as well. I mean it is complicated for sure but why is it unpickable? And is the joke the extra ball bearing or something else?
Anytime I see the word joker, I can't help but sing to myself the lyrics to the steve miller band song "the joker." Which seems rather fitting cuz if bill did some "midnight tokin" as the lyrics say maybe he might have laughed at the practical joke lock a little bit more.
lol TJ has you Freaked Out about these Ball Bearings! *Now, THAT'S a Lock!!* The 'Joke' is to see Lock laugh last. =D Perhaps we'll see new Pick coming out soon? How not get Pins to hold ('Non-pickable') ~ Ball Bearings - ? IMAGINE what the GUNS are like ! I always wondered, How the Pins become held when picked, and 'Why the need (except for locked out)? =\ - and springs, used to push back?
