The nice thing about picking is it is something you can pick up and put down fairly quickly as long as you have a couple of picks and a lock out. I used to pick on a tv tray while watching tv, or even if a pizza was in the oven. I could just pick a bit until it was done.

Great! An open is an open, right! The overlift trick is originally from lever locks, but I've found it can be useful for pin tumblers too.

16 pins, 2 ball bearings, 7 springs... in just 5 pins, that is nasty with all the threading even on pins in pins.

Yeah, they're going out the door pretty regularly now... I'm looking at alternatives for when the last one goes out and have come up with a pretty good idea (if I can design it right). We'll see!

I made that comment before watching to the end and wow a lot of care went into making that lock, threaded pin-in-pins man there's no damn way I'd be able to pick that in a couple weeks let alone 30 minutes.

Erica - post the question on a locksport forum page. There’s a lot of lock sport guys on these, (and girls...I expect. Never spoken to one but there must be some girls into locksport), with a lot of experience and a lot more time on their hands than the legendary BB...

I think that Honorable Donk may be a girl. Look at the handwriting on the note Honorable Donk sent with the lock. Sure looks like a girl's handwriting to me.

Do you have a surveillance camera in the LockLab? 😜. I’m working on something very similar to this (minus the custom picks and aluminum sheets...). OK, it is quite a BIT different but will be well worth the wait!

The most cost effective way to send something under 13 oz(14 if you print your label at home) is to go first class. If it is over that, the next best option would probably be the flat rate envelope, at $6.70. Hopefully your local post office is helpful enough to get you the best shipping option. You just need to talk to them before buying any packaging, preferably while the lobby isn't too busy and they can spare a minute or two. Source: am clerk at post office.

I could envision how to do it without tiers in a cheap enough way. For lock creators, since I bet there are fewer of them and the startup cost is higher, I think it should be very low: basically, they register a lock and get an address of someone to send it to. They have to supply a sturdy enough reusable envelope to last for at least a few forwards, 4 blank labels, and an instruction sheet, and appropriate stamps. For pickers, maybe an initial couple of bucks (goes to supporting the system) allows them to be on the list to get N challenge locks, one at a time, which they update the site to say they've received. Pickers are supposed to open and pick on camera (even if it's potato quality cell phone), and we only get to spend 30 minutes officially before declaring ourselves whipped (although you can mess with it after until you get it). Maybe no gutting until N people have picked it (where N is something like the ratio of locks submitted to pickers, so we have a full pipeline) Then, when done, you go to site, get next address, send it on (so, the additional price for pickers is the cost of stamps per lock). When it's received by the next person, you get on the list to get a new one, etc. In the future, maybe an additional fee could maybe have a 'challenge set' of pre-defined difficulty for pickers to find their tier. Sort of like a classifier. Similarly, lock creators can be classified by how many people they've whipped, and how often those get whipped. Organizing it (registration, fees, who gets a lock next, and links to youtube videos, and rankings) would be a task for (a bit of) custom web software Then there's social things about what do you do about people who behave badly (damage locks into unusability too often, &c - community shunning, probably).

@@JasonPascucci if you search youtube you can find lots of pickers all over the place. Im subbed to more than 500 people in the picking community (and another 100 of random other channels) if you start talking to some of them (including myself) you could have no shortage of people to send locks to or make trades with. You could go to my chan and look through the list I'm subbed to if you want. It's a good start.
