Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.

Jack Crafty: "I'm not going to make anymore big blades" Proceeds to knap a 9" Danish dagger. 😆 . Well done! Had me a little on edge with that thickness in the middle but you worked through that mess like a champ. 👍👍

It makes me feel better when I say I'm not going to make long blades. Then when I do, it makes me feel better because I'm being sneaky.😁

I watched it all. I could see you getting tired when you dropped the piece twice. The size of that piece made it the best pressure flaking video I’ve seen. That session was worth the work.

Got up and went to get a cup of coffee and started watching the video. I thought this is gonna be good. Long piece, big turtle back, not something I would do. I can see why this wasn't a yap knap video. Your strategy for making this is very informative and very skillful. You are without a doubt seriously skilled in the art. Don't have the words except to say very nice.👍

They are very intuitive and not complicated. The only difficult thing is to make sure they don't snap in half... like everything else.

Awesome! Can I buy the box of flakes? Before the auction? Ain't got enough money to bid with them rich foke. I built a ram rod like yours but it lays across the top of my leg, held on a spring. Not so much crampage of the leg. Thanks for the knowledge and lessons. I'm grateful for the opportunity to watch your videos I've learned a lot and hope to learn more.

Sorry I said Scandinavian. I don't know why I keep calling those blades that. I do realize it's a Danish blade. I had to correct myself. I think there actually is a blade called the Scandinavian blade. Please correct me if I wrong.

That's just as nice as the one Will Lord made. Nicer if you ask me. I think he used a glassy black flint. It might've been a grey spotted flint. I can't remember. Either way, I prefer the brown stone and it's gorgeous. Nice work.

Will lords doesn't even come close to this work. If you're talking about the DD he smashes out of obsidian.... smashes being the word. This work is a different league to will lord.

What is the material? I'm not very knowable on the subject, but I'm trying to lean. I'm a many great Grandson of OTzi. There's less than thirty of us that carry his DNA. I've been making bows and arrows long before I ever knew that I was related to him. There must be some of that carbon left in my brain, somewhere, because I'm fascinated by all of this.

The material is a variety of Costal Plains Chert from Georgia. You can buy this material from Jeff Head. Jeff Head Facebook Profile facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077372270590&mibextid=ZbWKwL
