I love ❤️ our Paramount Theatre in Seattle. It too was kind of run down and in need of repair. So a Microsft executive bought and spent about 15 million dollars renovating the theater. It looks great. Sometime after she sold it to the city's art commission for a dollar.😊

Charlottesville! 💙 I went to law school there. The last two years, I lived on one of the old estates, abutting Blue Ridge National Park. My landlord gave me a horse to ride. It was an excellent antidote to the stresses of law school. I'm sorry it's raining, but grateful you're not scheduled to play outside.

The Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia is one of the longest pedestrian malls in the United States. Located on Main Street, it runs from 6th St. N.E. to Old Preston Ave., where it extends to Water St., for total length of eight blocks. It is laid with brick and concrete, and home to an array of restaurants, shops, offices and art galleries. On Fridays in the spring, summer and fall, the Downtown Mall is host to Fridays After 5, a weekly concert series. Several side streets are also paved in brick and likewise closed to traffic. On the east, the Mall ends at the Ting Pavilion, an outdoor concert venue, while the west end of the Mall features an Omni Hotel. It is also home to the newly renovated Paramount Theater and the historic Jefferson Theater. Another long pedestrian mall: 16th Street in downtown Denver.

The Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States, was designed by Rapp and Rapp and opened in 1931 as a movie theater. The Paramount continued showing movies until it closed in 1974. In 1990, a group of community members purchased the theater, formed a non-profit corporation, and began raising funds for its restoration and expansion. In late 2004, the Paramount re-opened after an $18 million renovation. It is operated by a non-profit organization and is a performing arts venue. Beginning in 2009, the theater has played host to performances by the Charlottesville Opera.

👋👋. Amazing building. Got a much needed chuckle out of the brief view of the mural with the "let them eat cake" vibe. Was debating whether the pit was to cull members of the community who couldn't behave themselves or whether they have the ability to raise things before the show. Assume those hydraulics are an add on to the original building. Know somebody who taught at UVA but have never been there. The brief street shot looks lovely (helps cleanse the mental palate of those tiki torch images).

Leland - Have you ever thought of trying to get one of the posters from the event as a memento to frame up as art in your house? It is an idea that would be cool for you to have. Beautiful venue because it is a very old building. They don't make buildings like these, these days. I bet the sound is pretty good too. As for the weather - you got relief from the heat you've had to endure. Love these videos about the venues. Say Hi to Brad, Amy and the rest of the cast from me. Have fun gigging. Peace!

A salute to Brad’s patience; he might need a ‘Do Not Disturb At Work’ sign, it is already hot enough with 87 F and 64% humidity. Do the sound technicians setting up use software to evaluate sound reflections to adjust or do they do it totally by ear? These theater interiors are each so separate and not like going into big box stores or familiar fast food facilities that all look the same. OSHA, Occupational Safety and Health Act, would have a field day if allowed to inspect. Thank you for the tour Leland.
@Mark_Brooks
@Mark_Brooks 11 месяцев назад
Hi Artemis! I believe there are peak limiters and gates put on the sound as a part of the mix. Their VU meters and other things are indeed on computers. Then they dial it in by ear from there. (Acoustic performance is measured too, although I am not sure how. Maybe by materials, surfaces, etc. How good the sound reflects.)
@artemisXsidecross

Hi brother. Hope you are well. I read your comment the other day about Audrey and generally she is pretty easy to find but love your detective work. I once was a OHSA officer where I worked and was well known for shutting things down. Unfortunately now like yourself we have to scan everywhere and slip hazards have changed from objects to people. Where I live in Melbourne we have lots of streets similar to out front of the venue and I love seeing old buildings preserved. So much seems to get demolished nowadays and I figure as we age the sign of the times becomes similar to previous generations seeing change. I had forgotten how good the movie The Replacements was and the last few minutes is a bit deep and profound with ‘Heroes’ being played in the background. Actually fell great to laugh and escape for a little while. Always great to read your comments.👍✌️

Orchestra pits have always made me nervous for several of these same reasons. Seems like one person every year for every orchestra pit gets hurt and it's about a fifty fifty horrific kind of hurt. The Flies, and pulleys also give me a sense of foreboding, for people operating the curtains and scenery sandbags. The ropes. People lose limbs and often bleed out before they hit the stage floor from an accident in the flies, falling or getting caught in the ropes, or a combination of both. It usually takes more than one person pulling often three, and if one of them spaces out what they're doing and lets go, the one or two holding on is screwed because the weight of the sandbags are too much for one person. So there are people on different levels of the grid in tall flies, operating in tandem. It's kind of like a rowing team, but more is at stake. Extreme arm muscles. Who ever is still holding on if it hasn't been anchored, goes up with the rope, holding on, till someone notices, and gets help, (before they rise to the cog of the upper pulley) at best. It's real easy for people to panic, and for a second person of three to impulsively let go to chase the first one who let go, for help. I have just heard too many horror stories from stage managers. Vibing every which way for peeps to be safe. 🙏🏻🍀🦆, horseshoes, ...everything. 😳😑😶💕

@@RockandRollWoman No, and why they are not on my menu; my diet is based on limiting the use of fossil fuels. As someone trained in law it would not be hard for you see the relationship between growing grain for animals to be fed and then being slaughtered. But eggs are even lower than chicken, fish, and dairy on the amount of fossil fuels needed. If people stopped red meat consumption it would be a big savings of fossil fuel used. Or as John Lennon said ‘You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one’. ☮

It took 250,000 years for the human population to reach one billion people and that was at the start of the 19th century. The current population is just under eight billion. The last one billion took only 14 years to be added. Anyone with an understanding of an expanding population on a fixed Earth’ resources will see what we have done will no longer be feasible. It will be those who are under 20 who will face what we have refused to do; they will not be happy especially by 2050.

Did I gather that Brad is not happy. He seemed very serious. Could be an act, but did not look like it. I have felt tension there for a while now. Could be my imagination. But Leland, if he does not want to be on your video's its his loss. Thousands of people follow your adventure. And people you introduce get huge promotion from it.

I would not like to be surprised by a gawking smartphone by anyone and that would include friends. If they know me this would most likely not happen. Brad seems friendly enough but practicing his music is private time.

Helen, It might be more complex than you think; each venue has its unique signature. I am impressed that the sound is set so quickly. If it is not done correctly both the band and audience would be even more disappointed. ☮

@@artemisXsidecross oh, I’m absolutely certain that it’s more complex than I know! Its just that I always though sound checks were with the entire band….checking each mic and making sure the balance was right. I actually attended a sound check yesterday..,really cool. But I just couldn’t make sense of using a single sound…,a repetitive sound in the same frequency for over 30 minutes, to gauge acoustics.

As I understand it every room has its own acoustic character. It is possible to capture that character using something called impulse response where a band of frequencies are played as a pulse and the results recorded so that the character of that location can be simulated in studio performances. Perhaps you wish to sound as though you recorded in a large cathedral. For a travelling sound engineer, however, this must be a nightmare. The show has a particular sound which the performers want their audience to hear every single time. All those soft seats and curtains absorbing certain frequencies, hard walls at funny angles reflecting sound all over the place. I have no idea how they acheive it but I observe that they set up a microphone forward of the sound desk which I assume feeds into the computers where it can be analysed so the guys can work their magic and compensate for undesireable reverb and level shifts due to attenuation by all the soft furnishings. The hard work that they put in does require acoustic inputs such as low frequency bass drums. Hope that helps.
