Someone has been inside of this thing before me and removed a couple of voltage regulators. Another voltage regulator was burnt. It turned out that the microcontroller is dead, so the unit is beyond repair.

Agreed. My GE weather station had the humidity sensor go bad. I found the part number somehow & it cost more than the station. I found a way into GE component division & asked for a sample & they sent me one no charge.
I guess it's the same as those M1 Macbook Pro's where the SSD power supply IC shorts and sends 14V straight to the 2.5V memory chips, ie, $1K+ damage - ouch -.
I wonder if power was applied in reverse using the wrong AC adapter, that might explain the multiple almost short circuits and possibly failed higher voltage regulators.
