January 21, 2022 - Tom Lahey Varsity Wrestling Tournament - Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills, Illinois Keegan Roberson {G} of Lockport IL defeated Aaron Perez {R} of Hinsdale Central IL by Fall at 2:14
Wow! So great to see a new match from the man Keegan! He's so dominant racking up the points with his takedowns and near falls and then locks in the pin! I definitely saw that smile at the camera. I'm sure he was happy to see you documenting another of his brilliant wins and he was also smiling to show his confidence and that he was comfortably in control of the match and feeling good about it. I think sometimes the confident wrestlers seek out the camera in those situations as in the wrestling match I photographed last week, there were a few times when the wrestlers had a move locked in and they looked up directly at my camera. Haha. Anyhow, Keegan is definitely going to great places in life with his confidence and strength.
Keegan locked up both of the opponent's arms in the cris-cross hold and then took him from the neutral position directly to his back. That would be accurately described as a power move.
Commenting here cause you officiated one of my matches today at Harper. Didn’t realize you were also ref. It would be neat to see some college wrestling on here too!
Wait... my avatar doesn't give that away?! 🧐😂 I completely agree, though.. I had such high hopes to finally get some college wrestling on here with the Midlands, but... I'm sure you heard what happened. That said, I am planning to film an upcoming college dual... that will be the first college content on here as long as it doesn't get cancelled because of Covid. By the way, congratulations on the 3rd place finish today! 💪
Keegan won this tournament with a fall, a fall, a technical fall, and a 7-6 decision in the final. (His opponent in the final must have been Superman.) As if Keegan is not enough, his younger brother Payton (a 9th grader) just kicked booty all the way through the Spartan Invitational JV tournament. Payton won his four matches by a fall, a fall, a 9-2 decision, and a fall. So, you'll be seeing Roberson domination for many years to come. They even look alike. Two things are inevitably true: (1) wrestling a Roberson is going to be your worst nightmare, and (2) Midwest Wrestle is by far the best wrestling video channel on the internet.
I would have to tell my coach something if he kept telling me, "Keep it legal"! Now all eyes are on you because the perception the coach put in others heads may have them thinking, (he's pulling illegal moves). His Social and Psychological approach needs some fine tuning.
Just to clarify, that is actually the official who you hear cautioning Keegan to "keep it legal". Every time a hammer lock is used, we are required to remind the wrestler to "keep it legal" because that is a potentially dangerous hold which is very easily abused and could instantly cause permanent damage before we are able to stop it.
