Gotta love that two stroke smell. My late father had, a long time ago, a 1984 Wartburg Karavan. It was a boat. A boat, because you could see it smoke trail over the horizont line :)
@@P7777-u7r The engines were cheap to produce and the designs already existed I think, they were largely based on pre-war designs. The manufacturers themselves wanted to switch to more powerful 4-stroke engines quite early but the government intervened, refusing the money needed for the changeover. If the companies had been able to decide themselves, the Trabant would have seen a 4-stroke replacement with an entirely different body by the 1970s and the Wartburg 353 would have had a 4-stroke engine right from the start.

The manufacturers did what the government said, and for motor oil consumption, cost and ease of serviceability and engineering, two strokes were selected over four strokes. As some of their disadvantages become more obvious and advantages less relevant, there was a desire to change in newer designs but there was no money for newer designs, so the two strokes stayed.

Genauso schlecht ist es den Motor kalt zu starten, laufen zu lassen und wieder abzustellen, damit ist der Motor voll mit aggressiven Kondensat (Korrosion)
wenn man die Karre richtig aus macht springt der auch kalt leichter an vor Zündung aus noch mal kurz Gas geben - ich hab 10 Jahre einen Barkas gefahren - lang lang ist her
wie von anderen schon gesagt das rumgehoppse auf dem Gaspedal ist sinnlos - gute Batterie und dann den Anlaßer laufen lassen - wenn alles in Ordnung ist springt er auch an - Shoke halb rein dann qualmt er auch nicht so
They likely don't mind as it's a rare oldtimer. If we had tens of thousands of these in big cities, that would cause a serious public health issue. A city in India was full of carburated two-stroke rickshaws (probably badly maintained as well), smog levels and cancer cases were over the roof. Until government finally decided to invest in upgrading them all with fuel injection. Still not perfect compared to electric (or at least 4 stroke), but much less smoke was getting into people's lungs due to more efficient combustion.
It’s like a Trabant but with 3 cylinders instead of 2. Still has that 2 stroke sound! Probably shouldn’t keep it running in the garage like hat though, with all the smoke and everything.
@@IHeartMyLada Yeah in hindsight it is more like the Wartburg, in fact I think the Barkas shared its engine with some Wartburg models. I know it did at least share some components with the Trabant though, like the headlights, and I think it shares its taillights with the Wartburg 311.
@@halopro8958 Barkas and Wartburg have the same engine, Barkas has different carburetor and resonance exhaust to improve low end torque. All GDR vehicles share basic parts. Trabant has the same 12V Generator as Wartburg, Barkas, Robur, W50 and so on. Same story with light switch, high beam relay and indicator relay, doorhandles, indicator lever, interior switches and many many more
Do you have many two-strokers there? Which ones, Saab? Or did Wartburg export to Finland as well?? I've seen one once in Danmark - in "Sahara Yellow" like the one I had as my fist car in 91 :-)
Is auch richtig intelligent alles zu verpixeln ... wird bestimmt viele B1000 geben mit einem Finlandia Aufkleber geben. Aber das der Typ eh nicht der hellste ist merkt man ja an sich schon ...
Glück auf, ich bringe zur Zeit einen framo wieder zum Laufen. Nur das Problem ist ich habe muss das Zündschloss neu verkabeln weil keins verbaut war. Im Internet finde ich aber keine Schaltpläne. Könnten Sie mir da weiterhelfen?
Das hat man früher bei den 4--Taktern gemacht. Das hat Sprit vorgepummt. Zweifelhafte Methode und beim 2-Takter völliger Blödsinn! Auch wenn der B1000 ne Benzinpumpe hat.
Robert Das hat nix damit zu tun ob eine Kraftstoffpumpe vorhanden ist oder nicht. Das macht nur nen kleinen Sinn bei 4 Taktern deren Vergaser eine Beschleunigerpumpe haben. Aber auch nur dann wenn im Kaltstart die Schwimmerkammer voll ist.

schade, dass die Geschichte des Barkas zu Ende ist. Somit hat meines Wissens kein DDR - Fahrzeug die Wende überlebt. Bei Wartburg und Trabant waren ja gleich nach der Wende die Lichter aus. Ach da fällt mir noch ein Fahrzeug ein, der Multicar müsste noch leben,oder ? Mir ist, als hätte ich da mal eine Doku gesehen.
Bizony, bizony! A 2 ütemhez érzék kell. Trabinál szintén így és a 6 voltos is egy pöccre indul. Ha nagyon sokat állt a kocsi, egy kis Artikát befújni a megfelelő helyre és nincs a hosszadalmas köszörülés. Régen volt, de igaz most is.

Ladas und Skodas. Die Tschechen waren auch zu Kommunistenzeiten ganz gut unterwegs. Wartburgs und vor allem Barkas sah man in der alten CSSR kaum - die hatten die eigentlich recht formschönen Skoda-Kleinbusse (vermutlich genauso lahm wie der Barkas) Wundere mich, wie der Kollege an seinen Barkas gekommen ist. (nach der "Wende"??)
