VN24 - 15-11-2022 - Rheda-Wiedenbrück A2 / Germany - After a tire burst on the tractor unit of his tractor-trailer, the 54-year-old Polish truck driver came off to the right from the carriageway of the A2 freeway and got into the right guardrails a few hundred meters after the A2/B64 interchange. According to witnesses on the scene, the truck, which was loaded with foodstuffs, initially lay diagonally in these guard rails. After the driver was able to get out uninjured, the semitrailer apparently became overweight and plunged down the approximately 8-meter-deep slope, landing with the driver's side on an adjacent field and thus becoming a total write-off. Initially, two large mobile cranes were ordered by the hired salvage contractor, but their erection was prohibited by the highway maintenance department. Since the field with its rain-softened ground could not be driven over by normal recovery vehicles, an excavator finally had to straighten up the truck and load the lost cargo into off-road dump trailers pulled by tractors with four-wheel drive. The wrecked truck was pulled out of the field onto a nearby road by a wheel loader.
