SUMMARY:
- Press the Windows key + Ctrl + D or Control + Up if you use a Mac. It’ll switch to a new fresh desktop.
- Push the Windows key + Ctrl or the Control key on a Mac. Now you can switch between all the virtual desktops you’ve made by using the left and right arrow keys.
- If you have too many apps open and you need to use another one hidden behind all those windows on your desktop, you can minimize all of them at once by pushing the Windows key + M.
- If you want much faster access to your most used apps, consider keeping them on your taskbar. It’ll speed up your workflow even more if you use the following combination: the Windows key + a number key from 1 to 9.
- Open one app that you need for your work and press the Windows key + left arrow. Then, open another app and click the Windows key + right arrow. Now, two windows are sharing your screen!
- Pressing Ctrl + Alt + Tab will show you all the apps currently running on your PC.
- To avoid restarting your device and losing all your progress, try using the following combo: Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Command + Option + Escape if you’re working on a Mac.
- Pressing the Windows key + E opens the file manager window on your PC. For Mac users, this is your Finder app.
- The Windows key combined with the + or - key will open the magnifier app, which allows you to zoom in and out wherever you point your cursor.
- Use the Windows key + Print Screen to take a screenshot and immediately save it in the Image folder on your hard drive.
- To open Bluetooth, simultaneously press the Windows key + A. For Mac users, your Notification Center is always a click away in the top right-hand corner.
- If you need more tweaking or access to more advanced parameters of your PC, you can have it all! Use the Windows key + I to do just that.
- To open Cortana on Windows in listening mode, press the Windows key + C. And to summon Siri on Mac OS, hold Command and Space together. “Hey, Siri!”
- If you suddenly need to step away from the computer but you don’t want anyone meddling in your stuff, you can quickly lock your user profile. Simply push the Windows key + L or Shift + Command + Q on a Mac.

wow I didn't know most of these, i paused to try out almost all of these. Finally I know an easier way to navigate through all my programs AND do side by side! also some extra shortcuts and alternatives: on windows: windows button + D to go the desktop, press it again and your back to whatever app/browser/program you were using. on windows: to copy (ctrl + c) and to past (ctrl +v) on windows: to undo (ctrl +z )to redo (ctrl +y) or (ctrl +alt+z) windows alternate for task manager: crtl,+alt +delete also if you use a mouse, if you hit ctrl and then scroll the mouse wheel it will zoom in and out, just as it would if you have a laptop/touchscreen that can be pinched.

At "screenshot" (tip 10 at 7:41) you missed the extremely handy Windows+Shift+S that lets you select a part of the screen without the distracting surroundings. You also omitted the Alt+PrtScr that copies only the active window into the clipboard. That is very useful with dialog boxes and error messages you might want to pass on.

CTRC + ESC to open start menu if your keyboard don't have the windows key; Windows + D, shows the desktop (not quite minimizing all), Windows + D again, to go back (not quite maximizing all); Windows + R for the RUN windows, the best short ever; Windows + T to focus the task bar icons, after releasing the windows + t key, you can use arrow left right to navigate, tab to go to the system bar; those are for windows 10, most, but not all, work on previous version til winXP

The most versatile I found to make screenshots is: 'shift + windows key + S'. You get several options at ones in the top of your screen. Here you can select different ways of selecting a square piece or the window you click. On top of that it doesn't save, but you can paste it anywhere (by clock 'ctrl + V' or click right mouse button and paste in Word or Paint for example). Another similar app that's build into windows is called the 'Snipping Tool'. With these tools you basically have everything you need for making screenshots or screenshots of specific parts.

A few caveats: The Snipping Tool is deprecated, so it might be removed in a future Windows update. And if you have OneNote 2016 installed, it somewhat interferes with Win + Shift + S. It still behaves more or less the same way but you don't get the options at the top of the screen to change the clipping shape; hopefully this will be addressed in an update soon.

Thanks. I especially like the fact that for most actions you give instructions on how to "undo" what you just done when finished. Nothing worse than getting to some place you cant figure how to reverse out of... it is the complete instruction "how to do it and how to go back/undo it".

Is that basically a Windows shortcut for the snip tool? 😱 If so that's really useful thanks!
@bailey125
@bailey125 5 лет назад
I use a program called ShareX which is basically the same as this except for one crucial difference. The screenshot is privately uploaded to imgur and the link is coped in your clipboard. Useful if you need to quickly share snippets online. Truth be told I didn't know about this one though. This is useful for directly sharing an image if I can paste it into something like Microsoft Word or Discord or something! Thanks.
