Join us as we journey along 15 Ancient Roads That Still Exist Today, pathways steeped in history that once connected mighty civilizations. Built for trade, military conquests, and cultural exchanges, these roads were the lifelines of empires, facilitating the movement of goods, armies, and ideas. Remarkably, many of these routes are still visible and, in some cases, still in use.

I was a technical writer for 17 years. Besides the technical material I was responsible for, I also wrote many scripts for speeches, videos, and presentations. As a result, I am often extremely critical of the scripts that accompany the videos I see on RU-vid. It is truly a pleasure for me to say that this was one of the best scripts that I have ever seen on this platform. I applaud not only the writer(s) but also the narrator and the video editor(s). This was one of the best videos I have seen and I enjoyed it immensely. Congratulations to all involved.

When you find that the video includes roads in the US and Australia, you know it has nothing to do with "ancient"! One that I liked, and have hiked myself, is the old salt road. Between Schnakenbek and Lütau it is very well preserved (www.google.com/maps/@53.4086461,10.5222888,3a,90y,36.65h,81.99t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sgjtGZlf7VwT_bV5TN7wGNQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DgjtGZlf7VwT_bV5TN7wGNQ%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D36.65400193014911%26pitch%3D8.00561588239053%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu). The road is still open to traffic, I watched cars on it though they had to drive slowly due to the uneven surface.

Number 1 road must be Grand Trunk Road constructed in 16th century by a Muslim ruler Sher Shah Suri and joins kabul in Afghanistan to Colkata in India, running through Peshawar, Rawalpindi Lahore in Pakistan , Amratser, Dehli and so on to kolcata in in India. Still existing and optimally operational.

Uttarapath and Dakshinapath existed thousands of years prior to Sher Shah Suri. They are Mahajanapada era highways which were later renovated by various empires like the Mauryans, Guptas, Suris, and Mughals. Sher Shah did not construct them, only renovated and realigned the route.

I find this video incomprehensible in parts. First off, it would be useful to know how you came up with your ranking. Is it agewise? Because I was very confused when some regional road in the UK was classed higher than the silk road, which is one of the most influential road networks in European history. Also, you reference some roads made by convicts in Australia relatively recently with footage which clearly features someone else, and you don't mention the Via Appia? Then there's that ancient road in Jordan, where the towns you mention are not noted on the map you've shown, and for someone unfamiliar with the region it's hard to orient oneself when even modern day borders are missing. Which is something of a theme throughout the video. I would prefer that each road was introduced by a map which clearly marks beginning and end of the road and references the landmarks mentioned.
