Next in the cancelled games series, we're taking a look at 15 of many for Nintendo's first home console, the NES... You can find prototypes of some of the games mentioned here: www.emuparadis...
Thanks for this video, I've been searching for the name of a NES game for about 22 years now and you finally named it... Super Glove Ball, so happy to finally have figured it out.
wow bio force ape looks amazing. Id hate to a person working on those games back in the day only to get them cancelled after all the hard work you put into the game. Thanks for another great video.
TB46667 - The Golden Age Gamer Yeah it looks super fast! I'd imagine it's soul-destroying having a game you've slaved over cancelled. Thanks, glad you liked it!
if there could ever be a perfect definition for the expression "less is more", it's your approach to swearing. always find it weirdly funny cuz they come outta no where
Time Diver Eon Man looks like a few of the great action platformers I either owned or rented for the NES. These are the types of NES games that interest me most.
You know, it's strange. As I had a NES as a kid I had no idea it wasn't very popular over here but thinking about it my friends never had one. Although I remember one kid in school did. Some cracking games on the NES. Californian raisins??? 😂 Great vid as always dude. I think I'll have a day of retro gaming after viewing this 🖒
Yeah, not many people seem to have had much experience with the NES growing up. My mate over the road chipped in with his two brothers to get one for Christmas, so I played that shitloads. Thanks, Mat. Great to hear! :)
I know theres a story of a company who prototyped a FPS for nes but it was cancelled because it was late in the market. I think it was the same that released that FPS bible game where you shoot goats for SNES. This video is good to show that while NES is an awesome console, people kinda exhausted their creativity for its technological capabilities at its time. That said, I could never get tired of platformers back in the day
I remember playing California Raisins video game for the Nintendo as a kid here in America maybe it's the Mandela Theory or whatever but I could swear I remember playing it and even seeing it on eBay for sale
@@onaretrotip Maybe i rented it from the video store way back in the early 90s. They also had a Japanese version of a Mario game with this blue cartridge attached to the real Nintendo cartridge I guess it was a converter for American platforms. But i never really got to play it because it was very glitchy can kept on freezing when i got to the have have mark 9m the first level From what i remember playing it was a cool game and i was extremely disappointed i couldn't play the game i even rented .more then 1 time playing on a friends system hoping it would work. But no dice. .but i remember the California raisn game being a reg Nintendo cartridge. Idk like i said it could be the Mandela effect I remember the game being kind of hard to play and i could not get past the first few levels Of the game. I i know i played the game because as a kid i love the cartoon and when i saw the game i was super excited. .
My guess is what killed NES sunman. The Developer being in Negotiations with DC and the age of the NES resulted in DC agreeing with the Super NES instead. Basically killing the NES version. To avoid upsetting DC the NES version Sunman got canceled all together.
Thanks, Jojo! Yeah that one looks really good, definitely worth a bash. Robocop vs Terminator is reportedly not great, but I think (like you) I'll have a go just for the licence.
I had one friend who had a NES, as far as I can remember he only ever had the Mario Bros./Duck Hunt pack, the most enjoyment he got from it was because it meant he could say 'DUCK HUNT' at the top of his voice and it sounded like he was swearing, with the aim of pissing his dad off. Simple times! Aside from that my only experience of the console was from playing Mario Bros. in Boots, which nowadays feels a weird thing to say. The Terror of Tech Town, you know for a fact that that would've been an absolute ball ache to play with a Power Glove, it's interesting to see the sort of thing they were trying back then though. Bio Force Ape looks great, a bonkers premise is always enough to elevate a game, it's good to hear it's legit and not just a hoax from one malevolent mind.
Hahaha I like the sound of your friend. My mate over the road chipped in with his two brothers to get one, and they had Mario/Duck Hunt, Mario 3, Mega Man 2, Double Dribble, and V-Spike Volleyball. Can't remember any others. Yeah, Bio Force Ape does look awesome! Thanks, Owen.
Great work. Personal favourite was cancellation due to drop in raisin sales lol! Guess I foolishly assumed raisins were a captive market. Seriously though it's a good video with great content. Props too for the propeller knight theme 😉
You gotta have a follow up to this. No mention of HeroQuest for the NES. Near complete ROMs are available, although they have some real weird bugs like being able to place yourself outside the map. Has some great music too. That Bio Force Ape game looks nuts. The animation on it it pretty flashy for the era. You brought up a whole load of unreleased games I had never heard of. Might have to try a few.
Mellow Gaming Definitely won't be doing another one on the NES, but I inevitable have to omit some of them. Bio Force Ape looks so fast! Glad I've recommended some that you can try out.
Honestly Robocop vs Terminator, Time Diver and Dreamworld Pogie are the only ones here worth saving. Surprised they weren't released considering how much rubbish was published for the Nes.
I remember ads for Hellraiser. Apparently the game was in production but ended up costing too much because of new hardware being developed specifically for the game to create advanced graphics.
For the NES, it's understandable why SOME were cancelled given that the system was coming up at the end of its lifecycle and the SNES was coming out. Robocop v Terminator would actually make a great film. But, yeah, and I will say this about ALL systems, GOTTA LOVE seeing them show AWESOME new games and then cancel... Anyway, I may have came across your channel by accident but have to say, these videos on cancelled video games on gaming systems is educational, and most fascinating. Being a NES and PS1, 2 3 guy (soon to be 4) I never knew about some of these and would have bought a few like the Pogie game as I LOVED the Dizzy games.
Apparently, due to a combination of Nintendo only allowing a limited number of games for release and NES development being so cheap large studios like capcom made several games in a given time span and only picked the games they thought would sell.
That sounds likely actually! I know that some developers created new companies that were subdivisions of the main company, purely so that their allotment of games would increase (from memory I think it was something like three games per year).
Glad you liked it, Jeroen! The Atari 2600 is certainly on my list of systems to cover, but sometimes I just can't find enough information. We shall see, watch this space!

I like watching these, knowing that I already know about all of them. I've got to admit man, I'd never heard of The Terror of Tech Town before. Kudos on that find. Do you know if that's legit game play from a prototype cart or rom dump, or is that just ancient footage when it was being demoed?
I know it has a snow balls chance in Hell, but if some how the original rights and roms could be purchased by Piko Interactive or one of the original devs for a official cartridge release of Bio Force Ape on Kickstarter, I would back that faster then anything I have ever thrown money at.
Titan Warriors and Buzz & Waldog look like they would have been good additions to the NES library, but otherwise, I don't think the sting of cancellation hit us very hard with the NES.
Some of these could be bought here in Eastern Europe, like that Time Diver game, which I used to own; there were repros of it floating around even in the late '90s, from what I recall! We didn't get SMS at all, only Famiclones and C64/various Amigas in particular, and then the jump was straight to PSX (Sony is by far the most popular brand as far as consoles go, neither Sega nor Nintendo have anything on it in these parts). Great video, awesome work as always!
Yeah, my Polish friend says that Nintendo was non-existent over there until the Wii. Before that it was all Famiclones (like the Pegasus). Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, Marius.
with the advancements in VR tech, id honestly love to see someone make a close to accurate recreation of "the terror of Tech Town" since it actually looked really cool and fun to play......for anyone living in a reality where the power glove ran on radioactive fairy dust from the future, because its hilarious how obvious that isn't real gameplay.....but we have the tech now to make it so if someone ever wanted to make the perfect "fake game" we think of when we see people on TV pretending to play a video game XD
I was never a fan of the NES back in the day but I have to say, the console is growing on me. It looks like a fair few gems never made it to the system, however.
GameHammer Classic Gaming I loved it as a kid. My neighbours (three brothers) chipped in and got one for Christmas, so we played it a lot. Definitely has some good looking unreleased games.
That one game you mentioned on your list your I forgot what they called the only game that's good on the list to play if you look at the levels they almost look like Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo the background is almost identical even the keys where Yoshi has to grab
Great video as always ! BUT where The *uck is ultimate journey ??? That’s The number 1 unreleased nes game that Everyone is after now sim city for The nes is found.
we should be grateful buzz and waldog never came out. should it have came out the developers would have got cease and desists up the ass because of ripping off graphics from sonic and super mario world.
11:10 I look at this and think "Hmm... I sure saw this somewhere" and I remembered Micael Alighieri made a material about a hack, titled (poor transcription incoming) Kuru Kuru Dansa. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tYCNIaIL7eE.html
I get a few comments like this from time to time, and it's classic American ignorance. It's pronounced "beeta" almost everywhere in the world except for North America. It's even pronounced "vita" in Greek, so "beeta" is more accurate than "bay-tah".
It's a map of the UK and Ireland and you say 'the UK'. You wouldn't show a map of Europe to illustrate the UK, so a map of Ireland shouldn't be shown when illustrating the UK @@onaretrotip
0:26 dude, either you drank, where under drugs or lied outright : North america had the Amiga among others already, and people loved it. The FAMICOM safed your arses back then as it basicaly showed that gaming was still a growing thing. So no, most people already knew gaming but could not afford it. Plus : NA did in fact hate the fact that a Japanese console was better than everything they had.
