You had a huge, huge operation, and all you describe is how people go through the healing period: the not being able to pee laying down (while most hospitals have a so called peeing chair, like a chair with a hole with a potty attached) to the huge vomit post op. The anesthesia leaving your body is also a huge pain (after some ops you have huge pain in your shoulder which is also anesthesia leaving your body) and the probed and moved inside you so the "bruised" inside feeling. Add that women have a high pain threshold. The having to surrender to help is anther high threshold, and I am so happy you gave in at some point: being very independent is our blessing and our curse in situations where you need help but feel to proud (yes, it is pride) to admit. Now, I need to use capslock: YOU ARE NOT LAZY. YOUR BODY NEEDS TO HEAL. AN OPERATION IS A TRAUMATIC EVENT, IF NOT FOR YOU, THAN IT IS FOR SURE FOR YOUR BODY. DON'T YOU EVER CALL YOURSELF LAZY AGAIN BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT. I wish you a "speedy" recovery (recovery is not laziness, your body asks you to take it easy, listen to your body), and hope your journey will continue soon and I promise it will all be okay. Lovely Wah, be kind to yourself, be as kind to yourself as you would be to your bestest of best friend. Don't be hard on yourself. Be. Kind. To. Yourself. Write it on your wall, your mirror, and be kind to yourself. Please. Lots of love, Maria xoxoxoxoxo

It's intense! I got myomectomy done about 10 days ago. I was pained for 2 days but i was fine after. Peeing was the hardest part besides getting in and out of bed but 3rd day I was taking care myself. Also hadn't had to take meds for last few days

Recovering from surgery isn’t easy. Especially an abdominal surgery. I’m glad you’re trying to give yourself grace. That can be a one of the hardest parts of recovery for some people. Even if (or in some cases because of the fact) we know we needed the surgery. Thanks for sharing the updates!

I love the head wrap, i need one! lol sidenote, everything your are experiencing is normal. it took me all of 6 weeks just to get back to my normal walking speed. don't ask me to cough or sneeze as that took too much muscle use oh and laughing, no ma'am. be gentle with the walks and remember it all takes time to heal properly.

Hi Wahima, I've just binged watched your videos and I'm completely in awe and proud of you. I had a horrendous journey to discovering I had fibroids & endometriosis, which led to hysterectomy at the age of 36 (11 years ago). I don't regret having the hysterectomy, but I regret not exploring my options to try for a baby whilst I still had my womb. But like you I've never had a successful relationship and I had no desire to be a single parent. I'm staying with you for this entire journey.

Hi Wahima! Thank you for sharing your story and experience. I used to work as a CNA on a short-stay surgical unit of a hospital and after almost 2 years of working there I learned from a doctor that 80-90% of patients experience some sort of depression in the weeks following a surgery. I always thought they should warn patients of this before surgery but they never did. I lose a little faith in the medical industry with each one of these stories I hear but I’m glad you’re starting to feel better and I hope you take all the time you need while feeling completely guilt free

Hi wah. Glad you're recovering, sorry that your dealing with the sense of loss. I think a lot of time black women are taught to be strong and take care of everyone else that it feels unnatural to be taken care of or to trust ppl got ur back. I've recently started talking to a therapist about anxiety I suffer from. It helps just to talk to someone. Praying for a speedy recovery for you!!!!!!!!

@@rammsterdamm020 Well, your initial comment read as completely condescending, so I'm sure you can understand why it was met with such a passionate, yet very respectful rebuttal. One thing to note, is that the inclusion of race in a statement such as "brown/black lives matter" is in no way a means of exclusion of anyone else who may not fall under such a spectrum, but rather it is merely a means to bring about emphasis to a point. People have a tendency to struggle with this, as even the condescending "All lives matter" chant was conceived from this misunderstanding; a failure to read the overall context.

@Elize Kelly I am very glad you think I'm white. It goes to show that an assumption is very swiftly made, and cause a lot of static in any discussion about the fact that women are always the underdog, which is sorely overlooked globally. You prove my point, thank you.

Your body was messed up for years from the fibroids and it will take time to heal & feel normal again. I slept in my lazy boy for about 6 weeks. I felt similarly with my c-sections. I was an independent woman for decades before having kids. Not being able to do basic things like going to the bathroom was a serious struggle that took much more of an emotional toll on me than a physical one. I highly recommend seeing a pelvic physical therapist. Research and see if you could benefit from this. Life changing for me and something no doctor recommended to me.

So surprised your doctor didn’t meet with you after surgery. But she probably had other surgeries. It seems like some of these nurses have no compassion at all. I had a partial hysterectomy and took care of myself and my 2 kids. I had no other choice. That forced me to get up and move around. My incision site has never felt normal and I had my surgery 10 years ago. They will test your hormones if you are having hot flashes. If you have any questions you can ask me. But you are doing great. I will be following your story.

It's normal to feel the way you do post-op, from a holistic perspective nobody is supposed to touch your womb or your uterus so all of your chakras will be "off" for a while. It took me 12 months to feel like myself after I had a myomectomy. I was sent home with 4 lots of antibiotics as a precaution to reduce me catching any infections.

Wahhhhhhhhh 1st if all you look absolutely amazing … hearing about experience reminds me of my emergency c section with my preemie baby boy ! Women in the past n throughout my pregnancy would comment about their csection like it was a piece of cake , but for me i felt like i got sawed in half for like a month after ! I really thought i was dying ! And ur statements about being depressed and not being cared for really hit home for me. one particular nurse was so indifferent towards me that i felt insane for needing help at all ! Until i went to go pee on my own almost cracked my head open on the floor bcuz i fainted from the pain! And even when i got home i was treated like i just had to power through everything n get back to a normal life as if i didn’t have to leave my 2lb baby in the hospital for god knows how long. My husband was great but my mom was surprisingly hard on me. I have never had health issues until i started to try to have children , and it’s been a struggle for real ! I have had multiple losses n the changes that’s had on my body is unbelievable at times. My preemie is a healthy 2 year old now ! But i say all that to say this , you r never alone, we see you and we hear you ! Sending you lots of good vibrations throughout this process 😘

I’ve had 3 c-sections, and your 5 inch incision will probably be sore for a long time. It takes a long time for the nerves to heal. I’ve also been super lucky (sarcasm lol) to get my period back very quickly postpartum and the incision on the uterus can be very painful during period cramps. I hope you continue to heal and just know I think what you’re feeling is normal!

I had the same surgery as you in July. I have those same 5 scars. I never had kids before either. I didn't get to see the doctor after either, and had the same peeing experience...it was a relief LOL. I did not get a room, I just had a bed in the midst of everyone else there getting medical attention. The most I had was a curtain for privacy. When I had to pee, it was quite an embarrassing ordeal trying to keep the hospital gown closed while rushing to pee as a little bit dripped as I went to the bathroom, super embarrassing! But yes I do think everyone heals differently because I healed fairly quickly. I was moving the next day. And I stopped taking my medication within a week (but I took the full 4 weeks off work regardless LOL). The sore throat is the worst! And I was constipated for a couple days too. Hope you heal up soon and well!

Healing takes an extraordinary amount of energy. Rest and sleep as much as you can to get past it faster. When the hungry hits, eat freely. Think of it as fuel for healing. As for your bladder... it sits under your uterus. It probably got bumped around during surgery and is a bit irritable. When its full, it pushes the uterus forward. It's why prenatal ultrasounds require a full bladder. As for the doctor after surgery, it's my experience that you just don't see them as they tend to have surgical days in which all they do is cut one patient after another. Otherwise that nurse was seriously deficient. You've got this.
