I like New Look 6483 for its easy sewing and 1996 pattern Simplicity 7242 - as it easy to sew and fits my body really well.

I LOVE a wrap top dress. It can be dressed up or down depending on the fabric, can be made knit or woven, lighter or heavier fabrics to fit the season, made with flutter, long or short sleeves, can vary in hem length, and looks great on every body type. Always a winner.

Great ideas thank you. I would have loved to see more of your samples. I only got glances of top of what you were showing. I was curious to see what the hems looked like. I guess I could look them all up! Hehe.

Question: give me an idea of what you mean by a capsule wardrobe. One of the reasons I got back into sewing (my mom taught me as a kid) is because I was “up cycling” some clothes and stumbled on some “inspiration photos” at Saks Fifth avenue, and thought “I can make that.” They would post beautiful skirts with nice fabric for over $1000. Sometimes up to $3000. Now that I have taken on this sewing venture my attitude is “why buy it when I can make it”. All of your cute tops inspire me so much. My sewing goal was to incorporate more color in my wardrobe because I mostly wore a lot of muted dark tones. No MORE😍

I made the maria denmark kimono tee this week after seeing it on one of your videos. I love it so quick and easy. I think I will be making many more of them. I hope to make the ruffle sleeve top soon too.

That's AWESOME! I am so happy you liked it! It is quick and easy, and it is a great staple of the wardrobe + you can make it out of some beautiful fabrics and let the fabric do all the work :)

Is it possible to line a cardigan? I'd like a layer of satin to help it slip on and off, over knit shirts because they can be 'grabby'. But I don't know if you can line a knit with a woven like that. I'm also not sure how to do a lining, other than just make a duplicate and join at the edges? If you ever want to explain linings I'd be all ears!

Hi Alisa - great video. I downloaded the Maria top and just finished assembling my paper pieces. I notice (or maybe it just looks that way) that you made all of yours out of wovens. Her instructions say the top is for knits. It also doesn’t have a seam allowance built into the pattern. Do you have any tips for making this top as a woven or are yours knits? I’m a bit confused and would like to have (or at least try) for some success when I make mine. Happy New Year!!!

Hello there and welcome to the Thoughtful Creativity! I have made mine out of both - knits and wovens and I find that this pattern is suitable for both, however when you make it out of non-stretch material, just make it a size bigger. For seam allowances, for knits - I usually do a very small one - 1/4 inch, just enough for my serger to grab, for non stretch a bit more! I would say - watch the length of the tops, as the pattern is too long for me, but I am also pretty short... This is such an easy adjustable pattern - I am sure you will succeed in making yours! If you have any other questions or need help - do not hesitate, I will try to help you as much as I can!

@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you for your response. I'm so excited to make this top out of both knits and wovens. Will trace a copy for both. I think instead of trying to add a seam allowance to each fabric piece, I'll use your tip and just take off a scant 1/4" when serging. I'm short as well and will pay attention to the length. I'm so excited to make this pattern. Will first try it out of some affordable cotton I got at JoAnne's before cutting into my Nani Iro cotton or linen. Thanks again. I love your channel!

Hi Alisa - my apologies. I just thought of another question. Did you make a neck binding for your woven versions? Will definitely do so for my knit versions but am unclear how you're finishing your woven versions.

No worries - we are all here to support each other in our sewing adventures! :) You're right - for knit versions - i finished the neckline just like I would do it for a simple t-shirt, for wovens - I had to make a bias tape (or buy one from the shop). As for the cotton fabric - quick tip, it is better if it is lightweight cotton, because anything too heavy won't be flowy enough and will look kind of stiff... if that makes sense. This pattern is one of those where fabric just needs to be super simple, super pretty and flowy enough so that it would compliment the simplicity of it. @@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you! I'm really thinking of using mostly rayons for woven version. Maybe a super drapy cotton. For woven matching bias neckband (using your same woven fabric, did you cut yours on the bias? May I also assume that for wovens, neckband is cut the size of neck opening? Alisa love your videos, I've watched and enjoyed every one. I need help with the Kimono Tee, I've printed it out, taped, read the instructions, scanned the website and no where can I find how much fabric I need. I'm ready to order....but I'm stuck. Is it listed somewhere? Can you help?

Lindie, hello there!!! So glad that you reached out! Let's get this sorted! The amount of fabric depends on the size of course, but I usually get away with 1 yd of fabric for the kimono tee. I am size S/M, or size 10 UK, if that helps! Also, I do shorten my Kirsten Kimono Tees, just a bit, I am short (1m 64cm) therefore the original pattern is a bit too long. They there, it is burda style pattern from one of the past issues, 2017 maybe? But it is such a simple crop top to which I added chiffon peplum, so really, just take any shell top or simple sleeveless top and add a choffon/silk peplum to it! :)

I would love to make a pencil skirt but i have a stomach thats not flat is thete a way to alter a patern to accomodate it i live the lines of it x

Hey Karen, there are a few ways you can go about it, but I would look up additional dart adjustments. Just like there are darts to curve the lines in of the skirt around the back, you can do the same for the tummy. I hope it helps!

I am sad... as I am very interested in the Agnes swing top but, it is NOT free 😔 it is 9.95$us ... do you know of a similar pattern that is free? I have to redo all my wardrobe as I just had a double mastectoy without implants and I think that a simple dress like this, without bust, would fit well. What do you think? Or do you have suggestions? I found sad that, regarding the number of women having this kind of surgery that there is no pattern for say for them 😳 I just found you and subscribed... thank you, I will go see your other videos

Gretchen, mine were done on serger, as I have one, but a few years back I did all my knits on sewing machine with zig zag stitch and it worked well, and I still wear them and everything holds! Hope this helps!

Gretchen Hautzinger - hi, I make lots of knit tops & trousers and don’t own a serger. Zigzag stitch on any sewing machine that does that stitch will work fine. Only use straight stitch if a neckline stabilising stitch is called for.
