Plumbing has come along way over the years. I work at the VA medical center and we have a few freeze machines that will freeze a line without a valve and we use a Pro Press to crimp the fitting on. We also have a Add A valve that bolts to the copper and cuts a whole in the line to temporarily shut it off until you install a valve. Shark bites are good for certain situation but not with anything that you don’t need movement. I have a B tank with a rose bud tip for soldering along with a oxygen and acetylene tank for silver soldering or brazing. Pex is also getting more and more popular over copper in new homes. We do all the plumbing, pipe fitting and maintenance with 3 guys with over a million square feet. We stay pretty damn busy! Great videos for new ideas, I’m always willing to learning new things and sharing with others!

Thanks, I'll be using the dye in the toilet tank idea and also the sandpaper or pumice stone in the bowl tip. There is a steady dripping into the toilet bowl but the tank never seems to lose water? I've replaced ALL the guts in the tank including the rubber gasket between the tank and the bowl and still have the constant dripping or water lines on the inside of the bowl coming down from the top of the rim. I live alone and no one else uses my toilet. When I get home from work and look in the bowl there are wet water lines running down the bowl. I got nothing.

You don't need wet/dry sandpaper for hard-water stains on porcelain. There's a pumice stone specifically for removal, called 'Scouring Stick' made by Pumie. They're ~$3 at home-improvement stores, and last for *years* cleaning normal toilets. They're softer than the porcelain, and won't scratch/damage it.
@la196
@la196 5 лет назад
That's true, although the stone works very well, there's a bit of extra work involved as its quite rigid and doesn't adapt to the curves in the bowl so easily. Next time I may try the sandpaper:)
@mestizoboy
@mestizoboy 5 лет назад
@@la196 The pumice wears down pretty quickly and conforms to whatever shape/curve you're working on. Try wetting the end of the stick and it will soften it.

If you have a drip on a pipe that won't stop, get some cheap old white bread and stuff it into the pipe a ways up. The bread will absorb the water, act as a dam. Afterwards, when the water is turned on the cheap bread will just turn into mush and be flushed out. Works awesome.

@osco4311

I've heard the same concern about sandpaper (or pumice) on porcelain. Since the stain is at the water line, it's hard to get the vinegar where it's needed. I drain down the bowl, then put paper towels wetted with vinegar along the water mark, above the drained-down water line. Give it a few hours, to break up the scale, then scrub it down with a toilet brush, or worst case, a melamine sponge / Magic Eraser

Love your videos!! They are all great. PS: I have found that pouring vinegar in the bowl and letting it sit for several hours (best if over night) will take the water stains right off with a gentle brushing after the soak.

Old trick: To solder a pipe that can't be soldered because it continues to drip, stuff it with bread. The bread will stop the water while you solder. You can use as much bread as you want, it will wash through when you turn the water pressure back on.
@keithsmith5908
@keithsmith5908 5 лет назад
eric brufatto never do this, the bread will break down, but will blow into faucets, valves and aerators and clog them up
@ericbrufatto5371
@ericbrufatto5371 5 лет назад
@@keithsmith5908 And you know this, how? This is a well proven trick, and plumbers have used it for many years. You are totally wrong, the bread dissolves... I think you're not talking from experience, but you are guessing, and 'talking through your hat!

Keith Smith its a tried and tested method. If you’re installing on a line with aerators or something and youre concerned simply remove the aerator when recommissioning

Another tip that I like to use to unclog a drain is using the exhaust side of a shop vac. I do it once a month just for preventative maintenance. Just make sure you plug the air vent before you do it.

Stuffing a leaky pipe with bread will allow you to solder, then the pressure will blast it right out. Also makes a delicious crispy smell when you sweat the pipe
