Do you mainly play these retro fighting games single player? I was just wondering since games like fatal fury 2 for the neo geo are literally almost unplayable in single player mode. The ai reads every one of your moves and has temporary invincibility frames where your attacks wont land. I just want a good single player fighting experience but I have yet to find one after relentlessly searching the neo geo fighting games library and much more.
I've owned both the Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers games. The only other game I heard of is Fighters History (because of Street Fighter). And never heard of the other fighters here
Gundam Wing endless duel is probably one of the best looking 16 bit games ever. It’s plays and feels more 32 bit than 16 bit. Crazy that it was never related in the west.
It's amazing how many Super Famicom games had voices. No matter what genre. Fighting, RPGs, shooters, platformers, beat em ups, but western SNES games didn't have nowhere near as many voices.
Endless Duel was so good. It was easily one of the best looking games of that generation. My brothers and I spent countless hours playing it on emulation way back when. It was the reason we figured out how to configure a second controller to the emulator. Years later after moving away from home, it was the first SFC cartridge I imported. Even though by that time, PS2 was king of the world, I still got my jollies in my Navy barracks room playing a Super Famicom fighter.
Fun fact, if you play the game and not lose a match, your last boss fight will be Epyon. I dont think i was ever able to beat Epyon. If I did, it was definitely down to the wire as I've spend a lot of time fighting him and got close so many times. Dont remember if you have to be in hard mode or not to get him to trigger. I wanna say Epyon is also a hidden character but only playable in versus mode.
Gundam Wing Endless Duel’s opening absolutely blew my mind back in the day. I went so far as to have the opening theme for it play as my pc startup theme. 1 of the best games on the system hands down.
It returned in the recent TMNT Cowabunga Collection. The original releases were hurt by the lack of an arcade release during a period when fighting games were defined by the arcade. It didn't really help that each console (SNES, Genesis, NES) received a completely different incarnation of the game.
Yu Yu Hakusho Final is an excellent game I had it when I was a kid, if you perform a special move when the enemy has low health there's a short cutscene, that blew my mind as a kid, not to mention the amazing OST, this and Dragon Ball Hyper Dimension are one of my favorite Fighters ever.
Did your parents get a copy of Yu Yu Hakasho Final imported from Japan from online and pull the things inside the cartilage slots that was preventing Japanese Copies played in the SNES consoles out of the SNES consoles to play Japanese Region Games on your SNES console?
Glad you threw the "almost" in there for those of us who would otherwise raid the comment section talking about how we haven't forgotten any of them haha. For me personally the only one that I just completely forgot/may not have ever known about was Taekwon-Do. Everything else I'd played, owned, or at least heard of (always wanted to play Battle Tycoon). And I played the hell out of some Endless Duel!
TMNT Tournament Fighters isn't overlooked at all. It has a quite surprising competitive scene and people researched some tech on it. Gundam W Endless Duel, a shame that game got stuck in Japan because it's gorgeous.
You are right. In fact, from the list it's probably the best known game. Although I think Konami itself was more confident in its sales success (which finally didn't happen).
Back in the day I was convinced that the TMNT tournament fighters was gonna be the next big thing and was looking forward to a sequel but alas this would never be 😞(sigh) the road not taken....but on the brightside we got a Bits & Beats vid 😁👍
Great video with a good selection of games! I'm glad to own an original copy of Gundam Wing Endless Duel. The game is worth playing even today when you're into fighting games. I love the intro and its overall music.
me and my brother played Gundam endless duel nonstop, the aircombos were introduced here way before marvel vs capcom series. And I'm glad you used Heavyarms stage to feature.. amazing track!!
TMNT Tournament Fighters was really cool, from what I remember playing of it though the controls just weren't as responsive as Street Fighter, but then again during the time it came out that was probably a very high bar to reach
SF II opened the floodgate of the fighting game. I remember there was a time when a new fighting game was released almost every month. And the most impressive thing is, most of them were quite solid. That was a good time for fighting gamers.
Fun fact played all these games on the Snes emulator back in HS. Actually was lucky enough to play ranama1/2 on snes in the early 90's before the anime hype. Btw that gundam fighter game was remade for the PS1 flew under radars undetected tho. So did the MMPR fighting game! So many memories.
Endless Duel was awesome. TMNT, too. Wow on Power Instinct!! I've played the 2nd one and on with my friend (Matrimelee is his favorite), but never saw the first one!
Weaponlord is great, super deep, and received a lot of hype in videogame magazines before its release (and very little after its release), it was like designed by 90s fighting game nerds to make it as deep as possible. I was a kid in the 90s and was weirded out by how my Nintendo magazine had built up hype for this game for months, and nothing at all after its release. Wiki has some examples on how revolutionary it was ""At its core, Weaponlord is a standard 2D fighting game experience. Where it differs is in its gameplay mechanics, and in some of its aesthetic choices and presentation. The game features thrust-blocking, an aggressive blocking system similar to Street Fighter III's Parry system. Also introduced in the game are Deflect moves, a counterattack maneuver that each character has. Certain special moves, known as "Take Downs", knock opponents onto their back. A player can then follow up with additional attacks while their foe is still on the floor. In addition, when certain attacks are performed on an opponent in mid-swing, the player can cut off a piece of their clothing or their hair. Players can finish off matches using "Death Combos", Fatality-style combination attacks that can have a gory effect on opponents. Weaponlord's fighters possess between 9 and 12 special moves each. Moves can be executed one of several ways: sweeping motions on the directional pad followed by an attack button, "charge" moves where a directional button is held for 2 seconds quickly followed by the opposite direction, and finally an attack button, or hold down moves where the player must first hold down an attack button, followed by a directional motion, and finish it by releasing said attack button.""
I remember ranma 1/2 hard battle cause it was advertised on a vhs of one of the episodes. Endless duel Gundam wing yea I played that emulated and than playing power rangers fighter power rangers was poorly done and limited fighters but at least they included Ivan ooze would have been nice if they included the original megazord, dragonzord, dragonzord in fighting mode, red dragon in fighting mode to expand the roster or even tigerzord warrior mode
I rented the Yu Yu Hakusho Final and the MMPR Fighting game a LOT back in the day (one of benefits of pirated cartridges being common in south america, we got a lot of japanese games like YYH and Ranma)
i played that gundam W endless duel, too many times, and this what happened, at the end, usually its zech pict as final boss with his gundam, but it changed into epyon pilot (forgot the name, but its fit to the story).
I've heard of all these games and played several of them, Tournament Fighters and Super VG being among my favorite fighting games I hate to be that person, but since you brought up multiple obscure Japanese exclusive fighters, I'm surprised there was no mention of Battle Master: Kyuukyoku no Senshitachi
Weapon lord has an oddball special moves system, but if you can get into it, the game plays very fluidly and you can chain combo like crazy! I loved this game back in the day. Easy a top 10 snes game
Weaponlord is so epic. If they had smoothed out the SNES gameplay a little more it would have been much more regarded. Maybe one day DJAMES will get the chance, IIRC he worked on the KI reboot .
gundam wing is my favorite fighting game of snes. is forgotten by the most of the people, I dont know why. but is hardly to find this rom in the packs.
I've _never_ forgotten Endless Duel. That game fucking owns. My Tallgeese is sick as hell, and if I see you picking Epyon I'm kicking you out of my house. _YYH: Tokubetsu-hen_ is another surprisingly awesome fighting game, but it's _seriously_ different compared to the traditional list on this video. I prefer it over every other YYH fighting game for how unique it is.
Power ranger and gundam fighting game i considered those a high profile fighting game, i play a lot especialy power ranger game right after finish watching the movie i turn my snes power on and doing transformation gimmick using controler..😂😅 People say G gundam is the worst gundam series, but to me is the first gundam series i watch also the first gundam game i play and it was very memorable.. btw, gundam battle assault 2 on psx is the best gundam fighting game. Imo
Holy smokes that’s a fast turnover. Thank you bits and beats, love these vids and you deliver quite often. Can’t wait to see the Saturn and ps version of these one day.
The sailor moon game shown here is actually Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen released on December 16, 1994 by Arc System Works/Angel instead of the listed Super S by Monolith/Angel. Super S actually has a handful of issues that make it the worse of the two games.
I figured you'd have Samurai showdown or Clay fighter, maybe Paws of fury (i think it was called?), but most of this list never even left Japan, they aren't even English. Hard to forget games people never even heard of.
Bueno...
I played the playstation version of VG titled VG2: Advance it's more disturbing cause everyone who gets hit from a prolonged fight ends they dress getting ripped and showing their underwear or private
1. seriously? Everyone knows TMNT Tournament Fighters. Everyone who knows more than just Capcom. And those are many. Overlooked and forgotten? You may have forgotten what popular franchise TMNT was back in those days. 2. This should make no.1 spot on the list! I liked the arcade versions. Played all of them on M.A.M.E. a long time ago. PI 1 + 2 were undoubtedly the best in the entire series. Awesome graphics with a unique style, over the top characters, and a plot that makes for the funniest fighter ever. A damn matrimonial ceremony is about to happen. Oh boy. This is indeed unique and fun. 3. ah, just no. I like the idea behind it, but it leaves a rather bland and clunky impression. 4. overlooked because it is Japan only. What's even the point? 5. another Japan exclusive. Next! 6. Really? Anything else that was not a Japan exclusive? 7. Do I need to ask again? 8. Well, aside from you telling us that it is worth a look, from a first impression I'mrather not impressed. Pretty basic. Maybe too basic. Nothing that had been done with style already - Street Fighter II Turbo and TMNT Tournament Fighters comes to my mind. Then we also had Mortal Kombat II and Killer Instinct. All of those games doing the right things at the right time. Fighters History doesn't seem to be at the same level. 9. Tried that one once. Mediocre gameplay, nothing really special. They tried to pack in the Golden Axe feel and tie it in with SFII gameplay. didn't work to any end. 10. This looks like a game I want to try maybe. But look when it got released. Most people were ready to jumpto the next console to hit the market. 11. Headache indusing. It has that one female character with bouncing breasts. But Mai Shiranui won that trophy years before this came out. So not one point given. 12. Like place no.8, nothing special here. And of course Japan exclusive. Right? You wonder it was overlooked by most gamers? 13. many games on this list already do NOT deserve the title "great" attached to them. But this is a new low. What is this? 14. Now that should be way higher upthe list, like being mentioned at no.2 spot. For a Japan exclusive it does have potential and it plays very well too. Tried it once and confused it for a Capcom fighter. 15. Just no. Big no. This is one of those games only perverts seem to like for reasons I do not ask for. Just no. To sum it up. Only really two names have been dropped here anyone might take a look at either on the SNES or even the arcade originals (if those exist) and play them whenever there is a chance: 1: Power Instinct 1 and 2. Definitely great fighting games. Great humor, awesome graphic style, nice gameplay, hilarious special moves. Everything makes perfect nonsense in a great way. 2: That Gundamn fighting game towards the end in this list. Maybe there ws another I have seen once or twwice while checking emulation lists. The rest is just bland and forgettable meh.
I've owned both the Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers games. The only other game I heard of is Fighters History (because of Street Fighter). And never heard of the other fighters here
I think the only one on this list I've played was the Power Rangers one, and Fighter's History now on the Switch(total SF2 ripoff, idgaf who wants to deny that, lol). Some of those games look so good though, I wish I'd had the chance to play more of these. TMNT, Taekwando, Ranma 1/2, Weaponlord, Battle Tycoon, Super Variable Geo, & Sailor Moon
Best game of the video is Endless Duel, Tournament Fighthers, Power Rangers and Flash Hiders are great, but G Gundam feels like trash sadly, I recommend Natsuki Crisis Battle and SD Hiyruu no ken, are good games too and underrated.
Fighter's History received a pretty bad rep due to that lawsuit, even though Capcom *lost* due to how general the ideas and designs it tried to claim were. The similarities between the two games are IMO fairly surface level. Which is a sentiment the court apparently held as well, as the court also found that the majority of Capcom's claimed similar characters and moves (excluding the stuff that was considered too generic to protect) were more different than similar.
I remember being surprised by the Capcom v DataE lawsuit because of Fighter s History, it had some similarities but nothing that serious next to World Heroes, Hanzo & Fumma were exactly Ryu & Ken; and the amount of reskinned characters.
I need forget Ranma 1/2 the fighting I still member and I still member tournament fighters also I'member Mighty morphin power Rangers fighting Edition I rented that from Blockbuster video.
Hey, no fair! Almost half this list are Super Famicom games, lol! I've played a FUCKTON of American released fighting games that weren't listed on here and any half of what is.
That's why I never heard of all but two (Turtles and Rangers) of these games, they were all Famicom releases in Japan. I live in North America and never seen these games
@@antiseize11 really? Weapon Lord was a game that was HEAVILY advertised in American gaming mags back in the 90s! Power Instinct was an arcade port as well! As were Fighter's History 1 and 2 , though 2 was under a different name. There were a couple more mentioned but unless I rewatch the video I can't remember off the top on my head lol! Man, I LOVED the 90s for the ridiculous oversaturation of fighting games!
@@sukmykrok3388 Me too, Oh that's right, Fighters History! Forgot, I only played it once in the arcade just because of the Street Fighter incident. And Weapon Lord I had actually got it confused with Golden Axe The Duel fighter
@@antiseize11 man, I just wanna fire up my SNES and play some fighting games, haha! Even the bad ones had a charm about them that fighting games lack now!
GW was better than the SNES versions of all Capcom and SNK games at the time. Capcom never made a Marvel fg port for the SNES for example. So GW kinda fulfilled that space.
@@carlosaugusto9821 yeah, i agree with that, today GW is the SNES fighting game that i enjoy the most on the system, even more than any SF game including Alpha 2.
Whoa whoa whoa!! Capcom vs SNK series was Golden and is the ultimate standard when it comes to Verses fighting games. Gundam Wing is great, no doubt but it ain't no Capcom vs SNK and never will be!
Ei!!! Vc disse que o 15° jogo era Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Super S!!! Mas porque Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S? Acho que vc confundiu ou colocou errado!!!!! 😡😡
Power Instinct : "It is known for its use of double jumping, powerful dash attacks, and breakable barriers." And also there's an unusual amount of horny old people, both male and female. It's a plus in my book.
