I used to work for a restaurant that would need about 2 trays of these (upscale so the portion per plate wasnt too big) and I DREDDED any day I had to prep this before service started

Most of it is just wait time though, it doesn’t really take any time at all. Prepare in the evening and refrigerate till dinner time the next day. It’s just like any other fried food except you prepare the food a good couple hours before frying it
Dude the texture on these is elevated. I made them. I know people are like “oh, they’re just potatoes “. But it’s worth it. Make a big batch because you’ll eat 10 before you even serve em.
Do you invite kind female strangers from another country for dinner by any chance? I probably have not the patience to proceed after having baked them. But I am amazingly good at appreciating other people for their patience and praising them for the incredible taste of their dish. 😊
@@grimgromunless cooked in oil or other unhealthy fats, potatoes are actually incredibly nutritious, healthy and filling as they not only have complex carbs, but have other vitamins
@@Smokinontilapia Right? It can be a lil janky at first but I'm tellin ya, soon as I saw how sharp that thing was, I was not bout to risk my hand. Great tool but scary sharp! Gotta b careful cleaning it, too.

Try 'alloo pitika' from Assam, India. It's kinda trending all over India. Its basically mashed potato. You mash potato and add raw diced onions, chillies, parsley/coriander, salt and most importantly MUSTARD OIL. It's simple tasty ,staple and healthy .
Makes me think of a dish my grandmother makes, basically you lay the potato slices in a grid and overlap them and then poor a cheese sauce over it and bake for 30 minutes. I like to add in other cheeses and an herb if I can remember which herb is the right one but usually I just use velveeta, parmesian, garlic salt, and milk. I was taught to eyeball everything so I unfortunately can't give measurements very well.
Washing and peeling take a few mins, slicing with a mandoline won't take long at all but if by hand year will take a while, deep frying will take very little time as it is already cooked after the 3 hours of slow cooking So active cooking is around 30 min
The hands in that dish instead of a spoon or spatula and slapping them into the casserole dish was gross. But the grease running out of the semi fried potatoes was truly disgusting.
Low-key reminds me of tartiflette. Basically, you do the first half of the video, except you add pork and cheese on the top, as well as heavy cream and salt. You put that in the oven and bake it until the cheese is crispy and the potatoes are cooked. It's really good, one of my favorite french dish tbh
They're even better if you add a little heavy cream with the butter. If you really want to add some flavor, layer in some cooked bacon. Deep fry, then serve with a garlic cheese dip consisting of shredded cheddar cheese, garlic, and heavy cream.
