Here are some cool tips and tricks for Insta360 One R! Let me know which tip you found most helpful so I can give you more tips like it! BTW re the invisible selfie stick adapter, I've asked insta360 about it. As soon as I get a response, I'll update this pinned comment.
I once recording at night and the screen asked me if i want to “turn on low light stabilisation?” Then i turn it on but it became more grainy..how i want to turn it off? Do you experience this?
@@Mantocu hi Luqman. That was the low light stabilization. It became grainier because it was using faster shutter speed. With faster shutter speed it has to increase ISO. You can turn this feature off. On the main screen, tap on the bottom right corner. Then tap on the red checkmark on the bottom.
@@Mantocu if you want to turn off the watemark, go to the settings in the main screen (the same page where you log in to your insta360 account). Turn off the "shot on watermark". The watermark may differ depending on which app version and which OS you use. I used android.
Hi Mic, I know this video is around 2 yrs old but it is still very useful for me and I thank you very much. Could you please recommend an external mic which I could record within my motorcycle helmet...Keep up the great work. Many thanks
Thanks ID Rider! You can use a lav mic and either a Rode Wireless Go and the new cold shoe mount. The Rode will become invisible. Alternatively, another option is a Rode Zoom H1n or similar recorder and a lav mic. If you use this option, you will need to sync the audio and video in post processing (and keep track of which audio goes with which video). It’s a bit of a hassle which is why I just use the rode wireless go.
Do you feel the 4k module Superwide angle is still too narrow? I tried it skiing and I don't know if my settings switched but a lot of my footage that I tried to get in a helmet mounted position is way too zoomed in to be useful.
Hey there 110% Ski! The 4K module ultra wide has a smaller field of view than hero 8 superview. If you want a really wide angle, what do you think of using the 360 module (then reframe as non-360)? It can be as wide as you want. Although the detail is less than hero 8, when you zoom out, it will appear similar in detail to the hero 8 superview, especially if you're moving a lot or snowboarding, etc.
Hi. Thank you so much. Tip 8 is what I was waiting for. Could I mimic a normal helmet chin POV effect while Moto vlogging using this tip? I have 3 cameras at present, normal action 4k camera (used for Motovlogging), Osmo Pocket (travels) and then my flagship cell phone (ultra wide-angle pics). I am planning to buy the Insta360 One R as an all-in-one device. Quality and technicalities are not a concern as I am not a pro. A decent 1080p clip does the job for me. to store my memories. Look forward to your guidance.
Hey there Viraj. I'm not sure what is a helmet chin pov effect, but if you want a POV from the chin area, you can do that if you have a full-face helmet with a chin bar, then you can stick an adhesive mount to that chin bar. Yes the One R can replace all your cameras, as long as 1080p quality is enough. :D
This video (and channel) is a great find! Thank you for this effort sir! Just one question. have you experienced phantom battery drains, lags or overheating?
Hi Joseph. No not with One R. With one x, i would sometimes use it only to find it is drained completely because of the wifi. With one r, it hasnt done that to me. Re lags, one r is slow to startup. Re overheating, it stops recording after about 20 mins when shooting with the 1inch at 5.3k. I havent experienced overheating with the 360 mod or 4k mod.
This is a very helpful video. All the tips here were super helpful. I've had mine for a few weeks now so I'm still trying things out. One thing i dont see is that is the indoor low light stabilization feature you mentioned. was this only available on a specific firmware? I'm using the 1-inch mod if that helps.
Thanks What I Have R/C! The low light stabilization is a feature for the 360 mod. If you want to see other tips for One R, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kc09OSyNn3E.html

Hey there Kevin! Yes One R now supports wireless livestreaming and reframed live stream. See the new features: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wAnpr0ePMzE.html
Congrats! Since you will be moving, just shoot in the regular 5.7k 30fps. You can convert to 24fps in post if you want it to look cinematic. Dont use HDR Video if you are moving. There is a chance of artifacts.
Mic! Awesome channel....one of the best!!! I have a quick question.....is there any way of muting the microphone when recording? Most of my videos are on a motorcycle and I end up adding my own music track.....so is there any way of recording without audio? Or is there a way using the app or studio to remove the audio? Thanks mate!
Thanks Fred! There is no mute option in the app. But one workaround could be to record a track of silence. Then you could choose that as the "music" for a video.
As mentioned, awesome tips! Couple questions, can “direction lock” be activated on the camera or is it from the phone app only? Also, link or name of product for selfie stick adapter that has the notch to keep it “360 aligned”? Thanks!
Hey there Robert. The new version of direction lock is available only from the phone app. I hope they will make it the default mode. As for the selfie stick adapter, i got it from insta360. I will ask them when they will make it available for everyone.
isn't the box already opened? anyway i want tips on photography, but using the 360. any tips on how to get into a blind spot or out of the way, or creative uses. i'm a pro photograph, have a full frame, but this is a whole new world, i have to learn all over again.
Hi Mike. Indeed, 360 is a completely new type of photography. When I got my first 360 camera in 2015, I started by shooting with it exclusively in order to learn how to visualize with it. What I found was that even after 2 months shooting with a 360 camera exclusively, I still had not fully exhausted all the artistic possibilities with it. That is why I decided to focus on 360, and I sold most of my other cameras and lenses. Rest assured, the journey has been worthwhile and truly eye-opening. And for experienced photographers such as yourself, virtual tours can be a very good opportunity to expand your services. I have a comprehensive training for 360 photography here: 360rumors.com/hq-method-faq/ It is currently for 360 cameras but I will soon be expanding it to include techniques for shooting 360 photos with DSLR/mirrorless as well.
I believe so as i got caught out by having the screen with settings facing me & when i looked at my video it was facing me not the subject i wanted to videoing this was one of the first times i was using One R but i could be wrong .
Hey there KWC! For purposes of direction lock, the side with the LCD screen when using 360 mode is considered the "front" of the camera. But it is possible to shoot from the opposite direction. It can be adjusted with just one keyframe.
Wow this is awesome. Often “tips” videos are mostly stuff we already know or can think of pretty quickly. This one is choc full of stuff I think most of us would NOT have thought of, or would take quite a while to discover. SUPER helpful thanks so much!!
360Rumors I actually think by seeing this video of yours today it’s finally tipped me to buy the One R over the Max. Want a camera soon for ski season and was very undecided between the two (pros and cons). Thanks!
@@rjkral that's awesome buddy! Yes i think one r is a better camera than max. It has many more features that make it so much more useful. And it is upgradable too. If i were to buy a new camera now, i would choose one r too. Anyway let me know if you have any questions buddy!
Thx very much for your video, just subscribed. I have a couple of questions about the Insta360 one R : - Can it output live video from its USB-C port to HDMI such as a TV/Monitor ? And if yes, what is the output resolution and frame rate ? - Does it have a "webcam" mode for computers, presenting a USB Video Class compliant device ? And if yes, what is the output resolution and frame rate ?
Hi Alexandros. Sorry, One R does not support those functions. The only 360 cameras that I know that can do that are professional 360 cameras. The Insta360 Air was supposed to have that webcam feature but I'm not sure they ever implemented it.
@@360vroomers Thank you for your answer. Yep I wrote to support in the meantime and they confirmed me only some kind of streaming to smartphone through wifi will happen. If it can stream directly to the Mac through RTSP or through a host app would be acceptable. Would like to make some hybrid usage on it, having it both on the field and at home for vlogging or live-streaming. Some very cheap action cameras on the market do provide some UVC mode (USB Video Class Compliant device), crazy that none of the big brands do that.
Awesome video! Can a third-party USBC to 3.5mm jack adapter be used with the one R or do I HAVE to use insta360 brand. Also I can't find a "square" selfie stick adapter to stop the one R from moving and being out of alignment. Could you help me please?
Hi Cory. For the microphone adapter, it has to be the insta360 brand. Re the square selfie stick, there's an STL file here: 360rumors.com/insta360-one-r-non-swiveling-gopro-tripod-mount-adapter-3d-printer-stl-file/
Thanks for continuing to provide informational content. Question: I am still on the fence as to how this camera will work for my cycling and my (non professional) everyday photography. I am more curious about the one inch version in comparison to what I am using now. I use the Sony X3000 and the stabilization is great, but I am looking for better low light images, especially on cloudy days. Also; wondering if the one inch mod will be something I can use for a walk around instead of my Cannon G7X mark 2. Any feedback to both questions would be appreciated.
Thanks buddy! I don't have an x3000 or g7x to compare but fwiw i have low light comparisons and samples from the 1inch vs gopro hero 8 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DmYBKbL3WhU.html I hope that helps! Pls let me know if you have any questions!
I have the Twin addition, like it so far. However, I did have it shut off once due to a drop frame. Do you recommend buying the one inch mod as an attachment, or should a person buy the entire camera to get the one inch mod? therefore they would have two seperate cameras.
Hey there moose3971! Great question! The 1inch mod is my favorite mod because of the image quality but one issue is the minimum focus distance. Arms length is barely enough. If you can afford it, having two bodies is much, much more convenient. But a second body is not at all required and you can still use it very well with just one body.
Hey there Andrew. One R and One X are very similar in image quality. One R is a bit better due to the 9-shot raw HDR mode but One X is good too if you can still find it. You can see how both of them compare to other cameras in this virtual tour camera comparison: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IINhyvMf-aI.html
Hey there johnboyinfl! Great question! Here is a post about a universal camera case / lens cap: 360rumors.com/insta360-one-camera-case-all-mods-universal/
I have a couple of questions, Mic ... Is there a night mode for 360 video ..?? You said it applies to both 360 and 4k modes ..!!! And can you make a separate video on this lock direction feature ... i didn't get it 🙄
Hi Maha. Night view is only for photos. What i meant is that it works for all modules: 360 mod, 4k mod and 1-inch mod. For the direction lock, aim the camera the same way you aim a regular action cam. But you will have the stability of 360 and the option to change views anytime.
Hi Ariff. I’m working on a new tutorial for insta360 studio. In the meantime, this older tutorial can show you the difference between flowstate and direction lock. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oF0FnivMjGw.html

Hello my chef I'm a subscriber on your RU-vid channel and everything you present is very professional I am asking you to help me because I am a bit lost and cameras are not my specialty. I already have a GoPro 8 but I ride an electric wheel and I already had an Insta 360 X But it works more because of the water. So I want to buy a 360 camera that you offer me? Insta 360x or the new Insta 360 R or the GoPro max or the fusion? I await your answer with great patience thank you again for what you do for us
Thanks for subscribing! If I were to buy right now, I recommend Insta360 One R because it has many features, and it is upgradeable. If your priority is image quality, then I would choose GoPro MAX. It has great image quality although it does not have as many features as One R. I hope that helps!
@@360vroomers hank you very much my friend you are a real professional, even I have heard that the GoPro max eats a lot of the battery and you also need a good computer for image editing but I will order it thank you once again my friend and I wish you success on RU-vid.
Great tips. Is there somewhere you can buy the non-swiveling mount? I appreciate the 3D print resource but I don't have a 3D printer yet. So many gadgets, so little time :D
Hi Honoring Legacies. You don't need a 3d printer. Just upload that file to shapeways or other similar 3d printing company and they'll print it for you. :D
You didn't think the last tip was the best tip? Aw you hurt my feelings! haha jk. BTW i have more tips for one r here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kc09OSyNn3E.html
Hi, can you let me know if there's a way to change which one is the front camera once the 360 video is shot already? My 360 video's default view is showing the back now. Thanks!
Hi Travel Freestyle. In a 360 video editor such as Premiere or Magix or Powerdirector, you can rotate the 360 video to change the initial view. Here is a tutorial I made for Premiere: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iSPYT_tdobI.html Here is a tutorial I made a long time ago for Magix: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RfxQUYTbEHQ.html
Thanks ade. I've asked insta360 repeatedly about it but so far they haven't produced more of it. Anyway, here is a 3D printed version: 360rumors.com/insta360-one-r-non-swiveling-gopro-tripod-mount-adapter-3d-printer-stl-file/
Hello, I went diving today with this camera using the default lens (the flat one) during a somewhat cloudy day and the footage was almost completely black where as my gopro hero 7 black had no issues. I even used two 1000 lumen flashlights on my rig and was only able to get a decent shot when i was almost touching my target. What settings should i use when diving with this camera as i want to use it mainly for diving?
Hi Hussain. It is possible that the iso limit was set too low. For diving i would set shutter speed slower if possible and during editing you can try aquavision, which is like a red filter to counteract the blue of the water.
Hi Brighter. I'm not sure which monopod and stand you got, but here's a video on how to remove the tripod from your video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HyLkNBwoXGs.html
Thanks Bryan! I'm almost done with the HQ Method class - then i'm going back to posting more tutorials. If there are particular topics you want to see, pls let me know! :D
Hi Joshua. You can record upside down and then in postprocessing, rotate the video. But it will not auto-level with the 4k or 1-inch mod. If you want auto leveling, use the 360 mod.
Thanks Frans. Yes, here are the steps: 1. After selecting the interval mode, go to the main screen. 2. Swipe left to reveal settings. 3. Tap on the file icon on the left column. 4. Tap on the time icon on the right. The number represents the number of seconds between shots, from 3 seconds to 120 seconds. Can you recommend an adapter I can buy to keep the Inst360 One r parallel on a selfie stick? Am fed up of filming just to find out ts ruined by selfie stick being visible.... Thanks
Hi Graham. Sure I sent you an email with 3 replies but the easiest option is probably to get a One R cage (the GoPro mount of this cage is removable): amzn.to/3h3RxZT
Hi Mic! All of your tips are great and very valuable information for us beginners with ONE R. I look forward to seeing your uploads every time. I would like to know a little about the equipment you used to record that part with your helmet. There was a stand on the lawn with microphone and light / flash. On your recommendation I ordered ONER Expert Edition and it will be sent on March 6, 2020 - some of the accessories they did not have in stock and could only be delivered later. BIG thank you for your help!
Thanks Lars and congrats on ordering the expert edition! I think you will be pleased with it. I will have a video with recommended accessories. The stand i used was this one: amzn.to/31Fz26m I will include it in my upcoming video. 😀
Thanks for the tips. But where can I find a flat head go pro mount? I try amazon but cannot find one. Maybe it is called differently? BTW, can you flip your screen on the 1-inch mod?
Hey Joseph. It's not yet available but you can get a 3D printed version: 360rumors.com/insta360-one-r-non-swiveling-gopro-tripod-mount-adapter-3d-printer-stl-file/
Tips#8: New directional lock. I think this is awesome. I'm a new user so, still it seems difficult. Hope going to a pro soon. Thanks for your easy guidelines.
Directional Lock have YAW & PITCH, I guess they mean horizontal and vertical? So up/down and left/right? Side with screen considered front? The other side would be better, right? It'll be 1 keyframe less and at least have a preview. I hope that could be improved by 1x. Just another excellent tutorial shot mostly from my favorite car studio :) Thanks and cheers!
Thanks buddy! Maybe i should rename my channel to 360 van life! 😂 yes i agree it is more logical for the other side to be the front. I have suggested it but i dont know if insta360 will adopt my recommendation.
Replying again. Thanks to this channel. Was planning to buy the OneX R, but with its single-lens mode, Insta OneX 2 seems to be exactly what I wanted! Tip 8 :)
the benefit of hero mode on go pro max is the files themselves. pull out the sd card and put it right into final cut or premier. than edit away as if it is just a regular camera. the helmet tip is a great one for your viewers who mount on a helmet!
Thanks Sean. Yes you're right. That's a big advantage of the Max Hero mode. But on mobile, the One R direction lock is just as fast as Max Hero mode (because you can share without downloading so it is literally a one step process). On desktop, Hero mode is indeed faster unless you use Premiere. Premiere can edit One R files immediately without having to stitch beforehand. So Max Hero mode is faster, while One R is almost as fast while also being more versatile.
Do you have the USB C microphone adapter? Is it possible to simultaneously power the One R and use the microphone adapter if you plug a small USB C hub with power pass through into the One R and then attach a power supply and the microphone adapter to two ports in the USB hub?
Hey there Boxertrix. Sorry but i dont have the mic adapter to test yet. When i get it, i will test that. I hope they make an adapter with built-in pass through.
Thanks man, really useful. Do you know how I can set the camera to default to Video when I turn it on? As it keeps going back to Photo and its catching me out. Cheers
@@360vroomers Thanks for getting back, but yeah thats not the case. It always goes back to Photo mode from Video and its annoying me a lot. Also do you know how to zoom in and out using the new app? As it doesnt let you hold the middle of the screen anymore for Viewfinder
@@codcamper what firmware do you have. I retested and it keeps my last shooting mode. Re zooming in or out you can slide the record button left or right.
@@360vroomers There is no record button. I am using my iphone, insta 360 app, albums, local, click the video and you get a bar along the bottom, I am able to move the video around the screen using my fingers, not no option to zoom in or out. It looks different to my friends Insta 360 app for his one
@@bitcoinbeast Hi Decanted. Press the plus button and look for the camera icon beside the slider to enter viewfinder mode. It then becomes a red circle. Hold down the red button to record while sliding it left or right to zoom in or out.
Awesome tips for the One R, as a new owner I give a hearty thank you for the ideas. Do you have any links to buy accessories that would help your channel? That extension arm looked great.

Hey Mic, great video as always! Can put a link for the attachment to go on a selfie stick? So you can align the camera and stick keeping it straight. Thanks

Hi fieldisontv. Yes you can use the extended selfie stick with One R. I recommend turning it so that the camera is perpendicular to the ground. That way, even when the stick bends, it will still be in the stitch line. FYI there is also a monopod that is longer than the extended selfie stick yet stiffer: amzn.to/2R0dSMJ It is also hollow so you can put a microphone cable through it. Please note you'll need a 3/8 to 1/4-20 adapter.
So helpful and funny as well, “Do you want to look at the warranty to”, it’s in the box” so cool 😎 Can you make a video just about the 4K camera because that’s the only one I got for now. Everything about it from setup to water use to taking vlogs to the use of that camera only... Please thanks 😊
Thanks AnnasGlamourSalon! I'm working on a new tutorial for One R. It will have many new techniques. As for the 4K mod for water use, make sure to use the bracket and check the USB door. For vlogging, i strongly recommend either a lav mic or something like Rode Wireless Go.
Is there any news on a new insta 360 action cam coming out like GoPro that release a newer model I just don’t want to buy it and a new insta 360 comes out a few months later
Hi V H. Here's how to find the direction lock option in the phone app: when playing back a video, tap on the 3 dots on the upper right corner. You'll see an option called "direction lock". It is also in the desktop app, in the upper right corner, under "Basic Settings".
Love the tip about direction lock, I’ve seen this option but didn’t think much of it until you demonstrated it. Also, I work in the El Segundo area so It’s cool to see your test footage all around that area - Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS.
@@360vroomers I have a quick question. Does the 1 inch Mod have Zoom? When you have it on and double tap the screen I thought it zoomed in, correct? Is that digital or optical zoom?
@@mwest9202 hi Mwest. The double tap on the screen is just to make it easier to see. It does not affect the video. The 4k and 1inch do have a digital zoom. You can change from ultrawide, wide, linear, or narrow. You can change the setting after shooting.
Hi Mic, thanks for another great video - your channel is truly one of the best! One question to add into the tips and tricks. How to get this horizon leveling setup in the Insta360 One R? (this is something the Max can do in Hero mode)
@@360vroomers what i mean is eg explained in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tNwKrq7LvHY.html So this feature seems to be one of a kind and i have not seen any demo yet that the One R can do the same?

I hope you can help me. Just got mine 2 days back but having a hard time trying to use the shot labs..whenever i try to select the theme it always say 'no internet connection' since my one r is connected. Btw, im using an ipad air for the app. Saw vids that using the shot labs does not require to download the file immediately and can be edited first. Hope you can help me.
Hi Ching. It says "no internet connection" if your ipad is connected to your camera and doesn't have a SIM card. It cannot get the internet signal through your camera so if it doesn't have a SIM card, then you have to download the footage first before being able to download the shot lab you want to use.
Hello Mic. Great video. I have a request. Most of the videos that appear are edited with IPhone. I know that you also use Android. Except for the Collect app, there is only crap. Now I came across the Reshoot 360 app. It would be great if you test this time and could show. Continue like this. Greetings from Germany
@@360vroomers No, that's not mine. I'm always looking for a reasonable app for overcapture. The only thing that's good is Collect. Insta360 has good approaches but either the apps crash or it doesn't finish properly, or both. That's why I came across the Reshoot 360, and the developer probably worked for GoPro before. The app runs stable for me. I love the settings for the output. If he improves it a bit, it is perfect for me. But it would also be interesting what you think about it. See you
Hi John. I use a Lowepro Geneva 30. It fits a 4k module and the One R with 360 module and lens cap. But it's been discontinued. I'm looking for another case to recommend.
Has the one button record feature disappeared in recent firmware upgrades for the One R? I can’t seem to use it anymore. Long pressing the record button just turns the camera on.
Hi hope I reach you before I record in the am.. so I’m gonna attempt a third person view but with help of another car. I’m going to mount the camera on the back of my girls car to get shot of my car as I follow. Should I record vertical or horizontal with 360 mod. Trying to avoid stitch line

Hai im kinda new with insta360 one r, im start record video and the time i change position, the sound of selfie stick always got in the recording. How to fix it ?
Hey there Rob. It's a feature very few people use. It lets you automatically track a subject without the phone. For example if you want to track your friend, you point the selfie stick with the one R at your friend, start recording, and press the star on the bottom right of the screen. You'll hear a sparkle sound effect which means it is now tracking your friend (whichever way the camera is pointed). It is a cool feature, yet smart tracking is much more useful, so it makes "point to track" unnecessary imho.
Thanks KP! Glad you found it helpful! I have more tips here: Part 1 (shooting tips) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yrHcprg8HPE.html Part 2 (editing tips) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ArUACiypRgg.html
Hi Gloryan. It might be because you turned on Bluetooth wakeup mode. In this mode, the one R is always using a little bit of power to detect bluetooth signals.
