On a recent United Airlines flight, the seat in front of me was fully reclined. My 13" MBA barely opened wide enough to use. A 15" MBA wouldn't be usable in that situation. Granted I was in a peasant-level seat, but just something to keep in mind if you're a frequent flyer.

I had the 13 M2 base and traded it for the 15 M2 base and I'm very happy with the larger screen and better speakers. Also it still fits in my preferred bag so that's good as well. Thanks for the video! Really appreciated the long performance testing.

@@abd05494 I’m getting as good or better than the 13. It’s a little hard to tell as I don’t use it all day every day. But I can say that I rarely need to charge it more that once or twice a week.

I still don't quite understand memory bandwidth. Is 16gb 100gb/s RAM equal to 8gb 200gb/s?? Is it perhaps how much data can be transferred at once instantaneously, vs how much data is capable of being stored for instantaneous transfer? So you can store 16gb of data but only retrieve 100gb/s, vs storing say 8gb of data but being able to retrieve more of it faster at 200gb/s? This doesn't quite make sense either cuz.. 200gb.. is a lot more than the 8gb that would be stored.. so I must be understanding this wrong.

The test I am really curious about is playing a game running at each screen's full resolution. The 15" has 25% more GPU cores, but also needs to render about 26% more pixels. (Maybe this is how your Tomb Raider test actually ran.) For all other things, including off-screen renders that were probably the same resolution, thermal advantages and extra GPU cores seemed to be about what was expected.

Personally I think we are splitting hairs with performance and maybe we should have included the M1 MAC Book Air as I believe it is still the best buy for most people, well for me anyway and it is still available new from Apple.

It surprised on GPU difference because 15 inch air has 2 additional gpu cores but thanks for measuring the CPU performance for sustained load. That was amazing to know.

im doing remote work, mostly doing emails, zoom calls and multitasking on my computer. Im a bit in doubt as to which one i should go with. im leaning towards the 15 inch with 512 storage and 16 gigs of ram. Dont know if the 13 would be better with portability though, since i have always had 13 inches macs

For your use case, a base is more than enough 8/256. Try the 15", don't know until you try it! Don't like it, return it.

I just got the 13.6 M2 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage. This is my first laptop as I’m used to Dell desktops. My last Dell had Windows 7 pro with 2T hard drive, cause I used to have a website and build my own web pages. Sound on the 15 inch, to me doesn’t sound better, only louder. One reviewer played music on both, and 15 inch was muffled and grainy. Next time play Beach Boys Wouldn’t It Be nice for speaker test. I’ve only had my 13.6 6 days now and I love it. It’s also very light and portable when I came back from Soho Apple store where they helped me set it up. Didn’t put a strain on my shoulder cross body in laptop briefcase. Let’s face it best sound quality is on the pro models.

I decided to jump the gun and buy the MacBook Air 15 inch but with 24GB RAM and leave the 256GB SSD since I have an 5TB external hard drive and seems people worry too much on storage due to only 1 chip which I get but after seeing so many videos and RU-vidrs doing “benchmarks” cause I don’t think I’ll see any difference in the SSD and I’m sure it can run very well with a lot of applications and especially having a gaming monitor so I don’t need a Pro MacBook, yes people will say I should have gone with the Pro but people underestimate how good the M2 Air is and it’s portability, I’d say if you love the M2 Air, go for It, just make sure to get more RAM whether it’s 16 or 24GB rather than storage

brother i went apple store and personally checked 13 inch which looked youtube viewing and netflix type of content viewing smaller and uninteresting , 15 is best for many things like typing youtube of ott viewing people who spend more time on video viewing and typing one step bigger than 14 inch pro and close to 16 inch this 15 inch is pretty much good final conclusion : 13 is bad for viewing videos and eyes too anything 14 and above are good

I’m considering getting a 14 inch MacBook Pro instead. Possibly refurbished possibly M1 pro. The sizes are similar. And with the better screen, promotion, and double the memory, and double the storage, for the same price. It seems like a better deal. Somebody tell me I’m wrong before I click the buy button. You are wrong and right; there is no definitive answer. Having used the M1 MB Pro 14 and the current MB Air M2 13-inch I would 100% choose the MB Air 15-inch. Just a better experience for me. I did not watch much HDR and I use power-saving mode so 60Hz. Speakers are better but not by much (versus 15-inch).

I’m thinking the same. 15 inch is too big and 13 feels a tad small so 14 feels like the sweet spot. Also the Liquid Retina XDR display on the pro is amazing and the 120hz I say makes it worth. I would do it imo

Bought Air 13” (m1) and in first 15 months : Charger dead Motherboard and touch id dead One week After the service once again motherboard dead. Returned to service…repaired. One day after motherboard dead again. So what to think

I will go with ram all day. Because you pay 20k for big display but can't really utilize it to full potential multitasking due to Ram bottleneck.

I would get 16 gigs of ram and 512 SSD storage. That’s what I got with the 13.6 I just got. I used to have a Dell desktop with Windows 7 pro with 2T hard drive.

If you already have a laptop, do a use test on it with both the applications you use and what you expect to have running at the same time and see how much ram you use. Personally, I am glad I got the 16 GB on my 13" M2 Air. My memory usage has gone past 8 GB without "extreme" uses, and not having to use the HD for swap has helped. Even if 8GB is enough for basic usage now, that may not be the case a few software or macOS updates from now.

It’s not similar to the 14 inch though. It’s fanless, it has a different chip, it’s thinner and lighter, it has no HDR display and it’s still quite a bit cheaper than the base 14

@@tompov227 different things are better for different people. im not comparing it to the 1999 m2 pro but rather the m1 pro which is 1599 new on best buys website that comes with 2x ram and storage and still 100 dollars less than a 15 inch air if equipped with the same storage and ram coming to 1699. if you can get more ports, better screen, more gpu performance and performance that doesnt dip after 10 min for less money then It is a comparison people are going to make even if apple would rather you ignore the fact that the m2 chips arent that much better than the outgoing models. and it is only .2 lbs lighter which would be pretty difficult to notice in a bag and I think the other factors would outweigh that small downside

The beauty of the MacBook Air is the 13 inch form factor.👍 Not surprising that at this date (July/27/2023) sales of the 15 inch Air are so slow Apple called for reduced production. Seems right since if better cooling, performance, and/or a large screen is needed the MacBook Pro is there to answer the call. Thanks GregsGadgets for another great video!

Just picked up the base 13” m2 MacBook Air after they dropped the price $100. Replacing a nearly 10 year old Alienware laptop and happy so far. $1000 and a $150 gift card on the education store.

it's interesting, but all moot. If you wait probably less than a year, M3 will squash both of these, I'm assuming by at least 25% across the board.. graphics, CPU, throttling, and battery life. Well worth the wait. If you're getting by with your current machine, and don't burn money for fun, just wait for the next model.
