Leaving a comment to say I love your videos. They are creative, light-hearted, straight to the point, appropriately paced, and never feels self promotional (which is not easy to do). Thank you and have a wonderful week!
Jeff! I have seen thousands of Notion videos, but this one changed the way I used it more than all the others combined (including some of yours 😅). Here's my favorite topics: - tab management (this one blew my mind 🤯) - database navigation tips - custom icons for columns - Notion AI - Buttons feature
Wooohoo that's the best compliment I could have received! Which other channels do you follow? I feel like Thomas Frank's videos are always super informative!
@JeffSu The day of the week instead of making a 'select' column. But it does sort for day of the week or month in board view even without the formula. I just preferred to have it. I'm going to see if I can write a formula now for morning, afternoon, evening. Thanks, Jeff. Your videos are always top tier, even if they are watched after Notion does a million long-awaited feature updates!
Great stuff as always, my friend! Don't forget that there is always the plus button that will open the tab for you if you don't want to stumble over the keyboard shortcuts. Not for us power users though. We have macros through our streaming service equipment that will do it all at a touch of a button, right? Totally not me, of course haha
I just want to thank you for your CV redaction tips. I just applied them and as soon as I sent it I got the interview, and now I am waiting for the starting date. Thanks!! 🙏
Thoughts while watching: Loving the hotkeys, can you change them yet in Notion? 3 tabs why? Can't you open a page in a new tab when searching? Obsidian can pin and drag tags - just saying 😆 Making edits from a dashboard is so helpful! I use that all the time in Obsidian. I use Morgen for repeated meetings, tasks etc. The hotkeys and calendar sets make viewing things much easier. Is there no table of the content tab you can use on Notion mobile? I use the outline for Obsidian on PC and mobile. The term 'role prompting' needs to catch on. Buttons in Notion seem really cool. I think Obsidian buttons are better, but nice to see Notion keeping in the race 😉 Other commenters please realize I am being sarcastic here with some points 😁
1. Nope :( 2. Just tried, it works! 3. Dam :( 4. 😂 5. Does Morgen sync with Obsidian? 6. Just realized I could use /toc 7. 100% for role prompting needing to catch on I'm sure they do 😂
@@JeffSu I dont need Morgen to sync with Obsidian. Tasks, events, projects are all in Morgen. Obsidian has all the notes and files for a project which i can put in the morgen but obsidian search is so quick there is no point.
For the organization part to use in mobiles you don't need to paste the link to the block. Just use a table of contents block that will automatically detect all the headings blocks and give you access to them
I would love to see a video of you explaining your main databases, I keep creating new ones and didn't understand quite well why I need to concentrate on general ones.
Super useful video again🙆♀ Absolutely love the tips for AI block, master DB + views, and tab management hotkeys! Would love to see you talk more about your methods for setting up and categorizing your master DBs in your future videos!
Awesome video Jeff! Now I need to plan some time in my calendar to implement some of the tips :) By the way: linked Databases views have an arrow on top of their icon to illustrated that its linked and not the actual database.
Nice job as always. It's pretty interesting the fact that you use one main database for all your tasks. It helps a lot. Thanks! PS: It would be helpuful if you can share how you divide databases, for example "One for my life things, one for work... bla bla bla"
For the All Tasks DB -> I stole that idea from Thomas Frank actually! And for how I divide databases, I follow a version of the PARA framework. I'll make sure to do a video on that in the future 😁
Right now I don't see a reason to switch to Loop, but I feel like for existing Microsoft users who have never used Notion, Loop might be the way to go!
@@JeffSu I found out that you can use ChatGPT to let it write Notion Formulas, you explain what formula you want and it will write it in code (maybe you can add this as a tip)
@@DaMorg3 For my use case, yes. I use tables a lot and specifically, formulas. Coda is better at references and has more ways of writing formula. Notion, Clickup etc. are more limited. Plus I like Coda's UI better. Feels more fluid and looks sleeker.
4:21 can't you just use the table of contents feature? when you add a new /toc block, it automatically picks up all the headings and formats them nicely. You can just put the toc block in a toggle and use it the same way without having to copy/paste links to the blocks.
