I used recollections cardstock for an order I had and if I’m not mistaken... I found that the foil stuck more to one side of the paper than the other. Almost as if one side is smoother than the other and the foil stuck to the smoother side more. When I was printing, I didn’t realize this as I thought it didn’t matter which side I printed on. But as I started foiling, I noticed some came out better than others and after 40 invitations in, I realized it was the side i printed on. Lol. Just a thought! If you look at the cardstock, you might notice a difference in the surfaces. If not, maybe it was just my pack? Lol
Great tips, thanks. I foiled on vellum (a card verse) with some sample gold foil that I think came with my minc machine and it was perfect. I just used copy paper as a transfer sheet. Then I tried again with some different foil (don’t know the brand) and it was a hot mess. The foil went all over the vellum, not just on the toner. I did both lots on heat 3. I tried the no name foil a couple more time lowering the heat each time and got the best result on heat 1 but there was still some foil where there shouldn’t be. Anything else you can suggest with the more temperamental foil?
Thanks for this! Very helpful. I'm wondering if you have any tips or advice on foil that's stuck outside of the printed area. I'm getting specks in those areas when they've got not print on them. Thanks
When you're foiling dust is your enemy. This might sound sllly but I dust the back of my foil and the foil sheet that I'm going to be using. I use a VERY soft brush. I have one just for foiling. I hope that helps.
My printer is leaving residue or something over the whole project causin things to be foiled that shouldn’t be anyone’s know how to fix it it’s messy and keeps ruining everything on sticker paper
Hi. I have a problem I hope you can help If I cut the foil paper say 2 inches x 2 inches. It attaches to the project say, the words but it also leaves foil everywhere else. Once I remove the foil I can see the foil residue 2 inches x 2 inches in the paper. . I’m using a mink machine and mink foil. I’m doing it on tracing paper and a laser printer.
I have two laser prnters. One is a color one and one is a black and white one. Both are HP brand. The black and white one has comprable printer cartridges (not the HP cartridges). Can I print a toner sheet twice to get a darker black image? Would that work?
Awesome! I'm using the same paper and using a laminator, which I've used before for foiling and worked fine but with different cardstock brand. I am getting a grainy finish, I was thinking it was the toner but I've printed a few times on the same design and not working. I'm wondering if it's my laminator although it's very very hot. I'll try the shaking the toner trick and hope it works.
Great tips! What if the foil sticks to entire background that doesnt have toner? My foil paper attached to entire image and my design. IT doesnt come out clean and crisp because it attached to entire media. I used Clear glossy sticker paper, and also tried the regular Clear with no gloss. Both same results, and lots of pecs and foil attaches to entire piece.
@@andipyatt2891 I figured it out hun. You have to make sure the paper your using is only for laser printers. I previously used Avery Clear Sticker paper for laser and injet printers. Don't use that at all. I ordered the clear sticker paper from Onlinelabels.com here's the link www.onlinelabels.com/products/ol177cl
@@Pita-SimplyLiving I'm having the same issue!! I'm using a Brother monochrome laser printer, clear glossy sticker paper(think it's technically a full sheet label) for laser printers from online labels, Scotch laminator set at 5 and deco foil. The foil is adhering to way more than the design, and it's driving me nuts!
@@lisabrady7605 Lower the heat setting to 3 or 4 and try again. Maybe it's too hot. If your using the online label sheets for laser printers you should be fine. I have the minc laminator from Heidi. But any laminator should work, just try lowering the heat setting. I also have a brother laser printer, those are great!
I'm having the same issue, the first print I ran through worked perfectly but every print after was a disaster, I'm thinking different heat setting might be needed for different foil brands
@@ceilidhsdesigns okay so i figured out the foil i was using was TERRIBLE. make sure you have quality foil or keep trying different foils. I ended up getting the MINC foil and it worked great!
I have pre printed cards I bought from taylored expressions. I put foil over two so far, and ran them through the laminator. I used the embossing tool prior to clean my surface. both of my cards have foil all over the card including the image! Suggestions? Thank you so much!

Hi, how are you? Thanks for your tips i really appreciate it ☺️ i need to ask something.. i have a good HP printer and my foiling results are good if i use my minc machine.. but after a day i see little specs on my design like the foil is coming a little bit off.. should i try a higher heat setting on my minc? I had used heat setting 4 on my minc and i use a 65 lb smooth cardstock.. i don’t know what the problem is..😞

i got a minc machine a couple weeks ago but was having alot of issues so i emailed heidi swapp with photos and they said the machine was faulty and i got a replacement but now the new one is transferring the foil onto everything including the blank parts of the prints and onto the transfer sheets I've tried every heat setting same results, do you have any idea why this is?
@@STYLESBYLIFEBEAUTYNMORE Toner foil is activated by laser toner, glue and stuff like that because it doesn't have its own glue. Hot foil has an adhesive on the back that is activated by heat. The Hot foil is used with machines like the glimmer or the couture creations foil machine. There are several videos explaining the difference and showing the different brands of foil. The best chanel is Nancy Stamps. She explains this so everyone can understand. That's where I found out the difference.
These are great tips!! I’m going to try getting a new folder!! Thanks for the video... I’m hoping that helps. I’ve had my Minc for years and have yet to perfect foiling lol
I was so frustrated yesterday! I have a monochrome HP laser jet printer but I don’t have authentic toner in it. I printed a black toner sheet to practice foiling .i even printed it twice so it would be really dark but it would not foil! I used Deco foil and Gina K foil! All failures! The authentic toner for my printer is $90!
