What a cool video, do you typically find those rock oven's only near old railroad tracks? I've never been to the desert out there, but it feels like it probably goes on forever, and with plenty to explore.

The metal thing stuck in the stone hole, is a stone splitter wedge. Made of three individual metal pieces. Ive seen this done. By driving the center piece with a sledge hammer, it with others will split the stones. The holes were first drilled with a power tools or by hand chisels, then by setting up the wedge pieces and driving the center metal piece in with a hammer, It eventually splits the stone.
@TheJimford
@TheJimford 6 месяцев назад
The holes drilled and splitter not “railroad spike” in place, indicates that the stones were hand split, back in the day…stone mason here…

Hello! Freaking awesome video! Your Terrible's video popped up in my feed today. Happy I got to visit there before it closed. I've been dealing with cancer and multiple other issues the last couple years and hopefully I'm at the tail end of it all. Your videos are truly inspiring! Hopefully I'll be able to get out and back to nature soon. Thanks again for the inspiration and sharing your adventures. Cheers from Las Vegas! You got a new sub!

There's one of those structures just past Cathedral Canyon on the other side of Cathedral Canyon road . After you drive down the hill on the road there's a dirt trail / road , to make a right turn on .

theline of holes is drilled where you want to split the rock, the two pieces touching the inside of the hole are called half-rounds-a wedge is inserted between the half-rounds and hammered along the line until enough force is exerted to split said rock

Awesome video. Love the content. Being born and raised in Vegas it’s nice to see these parts. Have you checked out a small place called key hole canyon. Out towards searchlight. An old waterfall and native drawings on the rock walls

Those are ore smelting reduction ovens for small assays, not for food, though i am sure food has been cooked in some of them at times.
