They see it all the time, during the holidays getting run over by a train is one of the most popular ways depressed people tend to commit suicide, and then there is the homeless who live in subway tunnels where it’s pretty warm in the winters getting accidentally hit by trains. What people fail to realize is that each subway car has two sets of wheels and how many tons each set of those wheels weigh, then you add the weight of an actual subway car, and the possible 50 to 100 people in each car?
@@michirumaeda those NYC trains are merciless, I have seen people literally cut in half and they have no idea they are split in two because of the sheer weight of a subway car. I’m not 100% sure about this but someone who worked on the tracks told me that each set of wheels weigh over 50K pounds. Then there is that third rail that if you touch it while it’s live will burn you to a crisp instantly!
I’m glad that’s all he lost, and that he’s still alive. I’m a retired RN and remember a teen train surfing in 1994. He fell, severing his left arm and right leg. Fire Rescue air lifted him to the hospital with his arm and leg strapped to the front of his body.
That's something you can't take back. Literally. It's amazing how only a few seconds of a bad decision can affect you your whole life or even take you under

Just teach them to be willing to lose friends over their beliefs, and not to be afraid of being alone. Peer pressure is for dumbasses. It was never a problem for me as a teen. If people didn't like that I said no, tough shit. I couldn't care less if I fit in or not smh
Just have them get hurt a few times. So they can understand the pain. Then they'll have a sense of respect for things that can hurt them. My son is 8 and knows damn well that trains hurt
Yup! I always used to tell my son "Think for yourself and be a leader, not a follower!" He will be 29 in Dec. Hes never smoked cigarettes, he's never drank alcohol or done any drugs.
What about the people that watched happen . The janitor only had to mop up the blood . Law enforcement , or medical got the rest before the janitor got there .
@@anitakristensen4679 It's more than 'mopping up blood'. The body part has to be dissolved since it cannot be saved or re-attached. Subway Station cleaners like EMTs do see a lot that would not be mentioned on local news.
I didn't know kids are still surfing trains. In the early 90's one of my older brother's was bus surfing on the back of an MTA city bus. I was walking home from school with my friends when I came upon a crowd surrounded around a lifeless body on the ground watching EMS/EMT doing what they do. I wanted to see what was happening so I pressed in only to see my brother on the ground mashup! I began screaming out "that's my brother!" The officers consoled me and told me he fell off the back of a moving bus. He survived, praise God. But man it was horrible what I had seen.
Whatever he was considering doing, he has to do it now with only one hand/arm! We don't know how severe his bleeding was so if it was really bad, then he could still be in critical condition for a while.
I hope this stops other teens from continuing this! I’ve seen other teenagers surfing videos on the news, so this isn’t the first time they are doing this! Unfortunately at this age teens think they are invincible!
Wish they'd put the arm on display in the museum along with other artifacts of historical value. Keeping accurate records of our city's diffrent cultures is important.
Exactly!! This was not an accident! Accidents happen. Stupidity and irresponsibility on their part! I don’t feel sorry for them either! They knew better!
Yea, too bad. The working taxpayers will be paying his medical bills along with free welfare and medical for life. It would have been better if he was 6 feet under.
He will realise that the guys he was doing this with could not be around much anymore, unless their good Buddy's. Hope he is OK. We learn a lot in life,15 is to young.🚉

He is a Sudanese teen whose mother is known by my mother. He wasn't known for making bad decisions and it came as a shock to my whole Sudanese community, praying for him to make a speedy recovery.
My neighbor split the award with him when he went inside a project trash shute last week for keys, only to be crushed to death.....I wonder if they have something in common
You have to hand it to the kid. He risked life and limb and single-handedly survived train surfing. With a promising future as a handyman, he is now well-armed for life’s challenges and should be able to handle anything life throws his way.
Some of these kids think they’re invincible and stuff like this won’t happen to them. He’s lucky to be alive and only missing a limb for the rest of his life.
That is great footage of the MTA worker cleaning up the blood on the platform. You can't make stupid Illegal. It is all fun and games until someone loses their life or arm.
Many of the train surfing videos seen on RU-vid should be taken down! People who post subway surfing videos will incite others to follow this activity. I advise that all subway surfing videos (riding on top of trains) should be taken down from RU-vid before other children get hurt like this one losing his arm.
NO they do not. Subway surfing has been around since the graffiti days of the 1970's, way before RU-vid was invented. If this kid was riding between cars, then that's not subway surfing. Real subway surfing is when people stand on top of the moving car and ride it like it was a surf board.
i feel absolutely ZERO remorse, the only remorse i feel is for the delays it caused in service for others. This is not at all a mistake or bad decision, it is literally a suicide mission. Whenever you have a 1000+ ton machine at top speeds of 200+ running on beyond dangerous voltage and you CHOOSE to play around with it, there is no "it was just a mistake".
My grandfather nearly lost his life when he fell from a train years ago, but the resulting TBI still cost him dearly. He wasn't surfing, just trying to get from one car to the next of a moving train. This was long before I was born, so I never met the man he was before that incident. By the time I knew him, he was living in a nursing home and playing scales on the piano all the time. My mom told me that he was quite the pianist before his injury, but scales were all he had left. The last thing I remember of him was when he asked my parents if he could go home with us. He didn't want to live there, but he couldn't take care of himself, either. I was waving to him from the back seat of our car as we drove away that day. He waved back, and I was rather upset that we were leaving him behind. He needed skilled care, but I was too young to understand. I just didn't want to leave my grandfather behind.
@@velileon101 I never told it before. When I started, I was going to reference it to say that I didn't have the same hard core feelings other people were expressing about this kid just because his injury was of his own making. I never did do that, I'm afraid. I wasn't expecting to relive the memory of waving goodbye to my grandfather for the last time, and I got a little lost in that. I feel sorry for this kid, though. People were quite rough on him in the comment section, and it just seems to me that he's paid high enough of a price.
So sorry to hear about your grandpa's tragic accident! I can totally sympathize with you feeling sad about having to leave him behind at the nursing home.
@@elenaarman-tang7811 Thank you, Elena. You're very kind. I'm in my sixties, and I honestly hadn't thought about it in years. This kid's story just brought it to the fore, I guess. He's just a teenager. I know he should have known better, but I wish this hadn't been the outcome for him. He'll make his way in life, but it's his arm. It's such a shame.
I work for the MTA and I remember I was on tiktok watching random videos and at one time some kid posted himself surfing the train with friends. I commented and told him enjoy it while its fun because when I walk in to my office I will see a headline of either you decapitated or Injured. They said I’m too old to understand lol smh
This is a common daily occurrence in Jackson Heights Queens. I ride the train frequently into Jackson Heights. I have even seen teenagers surfing on the trains right in front of the police who are on the platforms witnessing everything. I don’t even see them scramble for their radios or anything. This was bound to happen.
Still blaming the police? When these teens surfed the trains in front of the police, it was a slap to the face of the police officers on duty. You expect respect shown from the police to such teens when you overlook and tolerate disrespect shown from these teens to the police? 🤣
@@borednow5390 womp womp! It's not that serious bro. I don't even think she was getting at the police. She was simply just stating that these silly kids are doing this more frequently and it's like who cares.
His future criminal career is over. Them crew is not going to work with a handicapped person. He is going to be a good boy now and go to school to make a difference..
Unfortunate and was totally unpreventable Trauma for the MTA workers .. especially for the Motor person .. the maintenance .... Trauma for their parents ... WHY ???? This was something they probably did a lot and now has consequences ...
That woman said it "Stop playing games. Your life isn't worth it." Playing a game with your life eventually your gonna lose. It cost him his arm. Now his life is is changed.
I feel the same, the MTA should charge them for disrupting the train schedule. People were late to places, some might had taken a cab or fine other ways to get to where they were going. When this dumb children do things like this it effect a lot of people not just them.
@@rocioarias1992 I agree. I mean, they may think it's a fun time riding on top of a train, but there's grave consequences because you have no control over yourself giving the speed and the turns the train takes. If I could drive to where I work at, that's one thing. But people don't have time for the foolishness of some kid being an idiot. I honestly feel the family of that kid are going to try to sue, but the lawsuit might fall on deaf ears.
@@eljuancitoq.v.3167 But what does that have to do with that kid, unless you know him? And not playing video games the right way is the least of his worries. I mean, it's sad but he knew better.
That's social media for you. They try to copy anything with bad results. This is a good learning experience for him. Always forecast your situations before getting into them 💯👍
As always, regret comes too late. And the sad part of this is, this will not deter others to do the same because some dont value life including theirs. Indulging in hobbies is a thing of the past..social media is the trend.
I would imagine it being similar to, sleeping on your arm for a while, and waking up to feel like your arm is like someone else. Kinda trippy actually, happened years ago, and remember freaking out a bit thinking there's some creature under my blanket.
Good lawd people weren't you ever kids? Ever climb a tree? A fire esape?. Did you ever -*gasp* - ride a bike without a helmet? We did all kinds of dumb crap growing up when we hung out outside instead of face glued to phones video games and youtube. City kids doing city stuff. Yep stupid and dangerous but sometimes you get caught out there and you have to pay up.
@@memesfirst6928 Too bad we have idiots in society who thinks this worthless moron needs to be treated sympathy.... We have enough urban trash, there's a reason why some thrive and other don't deserve to live anymore
Life is going to hard for him! With one arm! Don’t even talk about the financial debt of hospital fees, months of physical therapy! Just for surfing the train.
I like how they don’t even explain what subway surfing is. I always took it as standing in the car, like normal, except not hanging onto a strap or bar- just standing on your 2 feet while maintaining balance despite the train’s shimmy & shake. Pretty dang safe (assuming you’re in a fairly empty car) with 0 risk of losing an arm; though you could potentially bump your elbow if you fell down.
THATS the only subway surfing I did…but then there’s subway surfing EXTREME. Where you hang onto the subway door or ride between the trains or hop up on top. Mad lads, the lot of them.
@@cityoftrees9953 there ain't much clearance for that in NYC. Riding the back is eh it's excusable but the top could mean either slamming into a wall or being electrocuted to death depending on the train line.
Two of the worse things I ever did was ride between the subway cars. And sadly as an adult, my teenage cousin wanted to show me secret parts of the subway system. So we took a journey walking the rails, which I never forget. Especially looking at a train headlights as it came towards me and than ducking into clearances so they don't see us. But knowing where the switches were, because if I made a mistake one or both of my legs would have been sliced off like a knife. Than there was the third rail, which was easy to identify. The interesting thing about this was his friend taught him how to walk the rails of the subway. But of course subway surfing is more dangerous, which something I never ever thought about doing. But I use to see kids riding the doors as the train was leaving the station, than they would jump off right before it left the station. All I could think of is one of them hitting those pillars (beams). But the conductor was smart and the train speed was reduced on purpose.
This behavior is seriously super annoying, not to be rude. But during rush hour when I am tired from work, I just want to get home, I don't want to be stuck on a train for two hours because some idiot or a group of idiots were subway surfing and someone lost a balance and fell onto the tracks. Then the train needs to be stopped and emergency personnel and the train crew need to get the guy out because he wasn't using common sense and was being stupid. Or even worse for me is to miss the first two hours of work because of some shenanigans delaying the train by one of them falling and causing an accident from subway surfing. Disgusting! Honestly, subway surfers are some of the most obnoxious and arrogant people. Once I was taking a train in Queens and a group of teens were smoking weed and were sitting besides the gap of where the two train car doors are. Then they got on top of the roof of one of the train cars and were sitting on top of the roof of the moving train while the passengers were inside. That's very dangerous for them and extremely inconsiderate to us, what they were doing. I discussed with the other passengers how stupid they were to do that, in disbelief, and then I looked at them with annoyance when I got off. One of the guys who was subway surfing even gave me the middle finger when I got off the train even though I didn't say anything to them. Maybe they heard my conversation, but I was inside the moving car, they were outside and on the top of the moving car, disgusting. They take rudeness and arrogance to the next level. If one of them dies next time, I wouldn't feel too bad about it. They don't really contribute positively to society. Nasty individuals.
