A bit below expectations. He did however run a 3:45.60 mile in Eugene 5 days ago. That is a 9 hour differnce, so there might be some jetlag there. The pacers went out very hard, so it was a bit messy halfway through the race. His 3:27.95 last year was much stronger. However a couple of things were different: 1. Jakob did not come back from an injury. 2. It was a bit later in the season (Bislett Games last year was june 15th). 3. It was a significantly stronger field (Nuguse, Garcia, Kerr, Katir were all in the mix). 4. Cold and wet conditions compared to last year (sunny and around 10 degrees celsius (18 in fahrenheit) warmer in 2023 I'd also like to point out that Kerr finished 9th with a 3:30.07 last year. And he went on to become world champion, so it is a bit early to come with predictions. Wightman finished 3rd in Bislett Games 2022 (3:50.30) and became world champion later that season. Jakob and Cheriuyot beat the rest of the field by a big margin. Over a second down from them to third place. After the european championships in Rome, we will have a bit more of a indicator where Jakob is in the 1500m and 5000m. Jakob's first two competitions in 2024 (age 23) May 25th 3:45.60 mile (1259 points) May 30th 3:29.74 1500m (1248 points) El Guerrouj's first two competitions in 1998 (age 23) June 4th 3:32.34 1500m (1212 points) July 9th 3:29.12 1500m (1257 points) Cheruiyot did well. Shows that he still got it. Cheruiyot (Timothy), Cheruiyot (Reynold), Kipsang, and Komen will probably be the ones who fights for a spot on the Kenyan team this year

@@jimoconnor8597 'The Brit' has made his point over two races (the Worlds last year and again a few days ago in Oregon). Now 'the Brit' has shown Jakob he can beat him in a sprint finish and also by leading from before the last lap. So 'the Brit' has gone back to some training knowing he is still number 1 and confident for Paris. It's Jakob who has been worrying and this race wont help his confidence because if you can barely out-sprint Cheryuit then you have a lot of work to do to win in Paris.

@@david2804me LOL Your 2 funny. Don't go back and look at the head to head record cause you might be embarrassed for "the Brit". Did anyone ever think that maybe Ingebrigtsen is actually peaking properly instead of coming out early season in top form? Yeah he's a couple seconds down from where he was at this point last year, but still finishing on the podium. He likely peaked too early last year and it cost him the world championship in the 1500. Maybe he learned his lesson and will peak at the end of the season for the championships/olympics instead of trying to maintain peak fitness for 2-3 months and winding up sick/injured.

Nope, the main reason is that he had an ankle injury and had to do alternative workouts all winter. He had to drop the indoor EC because of that, and Eugene was his first competition this year, and Bislet his second. At the moment he is running EC (gold in 5000 meter, 1500 meter is Wednesday). He is of course trying to hit peak performance for the Olympics, but the main reason for his "weak" performance in Eugene and Bislet is that he lost so much regular workouts during winter.

@tulyar57
@tulyar57 26 дней назад
Watching the race live I thought that Ingebrigtsen had forfeited the race by falling over the line and was surprised to see that he had been awarded the win. At one time the line was measured by the crossing by the athlete's chest but the chest had to be at chest height so thrusting the chest forward was allowed but dipping to six inches above the line was deemed not to be 'breaking the tape'. Obviously rules have changed but I can't see how deliberately throwing yourself onto the floor can be described as being legitimately part of a foot race. Maybe I'm getting too old.

I agree it's an interesting debate, but I would say it removes a bit of complexity from the rule (judges don't have to decide if you dipped "too low" or not). It also adds excitement and is a valid tactic for everyone so it's fair game. It's very rarely advantageous.

I'm coming around to believing what Kerr has been saying about Ingebrigtsen. He doesn't have a kick fast enough to win a world class 1500m if a challenger is at his shoulder coming around the final turn - ESPECIALLY in a championship final with no pacemakers. However, he is still very young and can be expected to focus on longer distances as he matures. And he has already won the last two 5000m world championships. I strongly doubt he will win the 1500m gold in Paris but he would my pick for the 5000m. And he would also be my current pick for the 5000m and 10,000m in 2028.

Diving is a separate competition that came back into track and field when shaunee had to do it to beat Felixstowe in 2016. It should not be allowed at all. It's no different than cheating...

Horrible take. Anyone can dive. Chest across the line = finish. Why should it be otherwise? How on earth is it cheating?

So he falls over the line and didn't know he had won at that time. He wins by 3 hundred's of a second then gets up and runs round with his finger in the air. Wow. I not a fan of Kerr either as, it seems to me, they both lack humility , and are so far up their own backsides. Compare them two with Jake Wightman, a World champ with humility.

Gutsy finish by both. When it's that close, with athletes having to throw themselves at the line, you can see quite accurately where athletes are in their fitness and it's looking good for Josh in Paris.

@@david2804me fitness NOW, please READ what is typed sir. If you know anything about running, which I do, as most days, I am running. You would know that you cannot maintain peak fitness for weeks upon weeks at the elite level (or the novice level). You are either building towards a peak OR falling away from a peak. I'll guess that Jakob has finally gotten the peak right this time for Paris and others peaked too soon and will be falling away.

As it stands you don't ave the Gunters to win right now. 2nd ain't bad at this level. No one I know can do it. But that doesn't erase the fact that you don't have the final kick that other competitors have. I mean here it shows obvious lack of final close with a limit on your top speed. good run - not great. And at your level we expect miracles this year.
