I swear the front landing gear structure and pylon are made to look like a dragon opening it's mouth XD This is definitely an interesting kit, but I agree that one could get a PG for that price tag and considering what these can usually do they might be a lot more tempting. Not that this won't get at least some following, it's so exotic people might seek this just for that factor alone. I kind of wonder if that might lead to a MG 2.0 S Gundam, though...
I would think a 2.0 S-Gundam is certainly in the realm of possibility, considering the generic Gundam runner markings Zaku mentioned in the unboxing for the new parts.
The problem I have with bandai these couple of years in their MG line is not the fact they recycle frames and existing designs. The problem here is the amount of effort they put into these new kits, or rather, the lack of. It's almost like the MG The O kit when it first came out many years ago, I remember being so excited but was rather disappointed when I saw the real thing. I wish one day I can experience the joy again of assembling a kit like the MG gundam 2.0, zaku 2.0, Astray, The HG SAZABI, Asshimar, gundam mkII and the list goes on. And please, cut the PBandai crap...
This IS a brick and you can clearly see that it's holding up with some parts. Imagine a Kshatriya that stuck on the stand and support by all sorts of arms.....yeah, I bet you'll complain about that don't you?
the HFA-78-3 would still be possible just attach it to an action base. (also they don't have a mg 7th gundam and would be too obscure.) hummingbird that would probably be a pain to deal with in keeping it together.
As someone who is new to gunpla (12 months) and water slides, i prefer dry transfers, but i understand its not always feasible or generally liked. I do wish different versions of decals would be made available for pre order for a limited time after a kit launch, but logistically thats not an option i guess.
I suspect there very little cost difference between stickers and waterslides (and dry transfers). It's more likely they're not included for business reasons (especially when they're standard outside Gunpla, including Bandai's other kits).
Macross kits and SW kits do have stickers and WS decals. And those kits are meant for experience modelers....I guess they don't include WS decals for kits that meant to sold for younger people.
It's a model kit. Age doesn't have a say in that. They're all "AGE 6 AND ABOVE". Star Wars Bandai kits are a lot simpler than their Gunpla counterparts. Not exactly for experienced modelers. I have a few. You don't need paint for those really. They're moulded in that nice gloss finish that they don't actually need paint at all. In all honesty, it would be a shame to paint a Stormtrooper.
But then why omit them from $200-$300 kits that are intended for individuals with larger disposable incomes? My best guess is that it's product differentiation (kits with waterslides are notable), add on sales (those GD sheets are solid products from a retail perspective as they occupy minimal shelf space while support large markups) and as a means to direct sales (kits with GD sheets sell better, so they know where to devote more production time across a massive line of products).
people are ragging on it a little too much for being a 'brick kit' and its 'posability' or it being a 'statue' I mean this falls under the same category as the HG dendrobium, GN Arms and etc. basically 1 pose kits. it's kind of weird why would people expect this to be super duper posable? smh your final point was definitely on point👌👌👌 if you like the kit get it, if you don't then don't.
People arent just ragging on the kit just for being a brick. Look at the goddamn price of it, it's the most expensive MG out. It reuses a ton of old parts from old ass kits, fine details suck, building it is like assembling legos, and you cant even make the S Gundam on its own with the parts there. If you like the Deep Striker get it maybe, but know that its an overpriced plastic brick that Bandai rushed out there for a quick cash grab off all the people who've been waiting for this for like a decade.
To those naysayers I say, were you expecting awesome Super Sentai poses? Well of course it's a "brick," it's a Gundam clustered with ship cannons, boosters and fuel tanks, not a close-quarters combat suit. I have the old Fix Figuration Deep Striker, and once you put all that equipment on, it can't really "move".
At least give it a little articulation to move the cannon up and down, to move the recoil system of the cannon, to move the leg/thruster back and forth, to move the arm more freely for better pose of the beam smart gun. At least give it better part and color separation, for example, replace those red stickers with actual red part, replace that green stickers with clear green parts, remove the seam line on the cannon barrel and the the beam smart gun design, replace that shoe lace with an actual. No one really expected this kit to pull off "Super Sentai poses", but at least give it something that is up to today standard and worths the 20000 yen price tag.
I would like to share my idea about how the kit be batter. I don't own it. First, I expected the kit to have some articulated main gun. This will not need to be super articulated but make it could move the gun for some degree. Second two beam guns at leftside of truster should also be movable. As you see those two gun point to the ground all time, I hate that. Finally, as a brick model, Bandai should give a set of fix-post hands so owners would enjoy a nicer and more solid fix-post trigger fingure for right hand, not old 1.0 hand likes that. I believe that if Bandai had released MG Kshatriya as 200th MG kit, it could have made Bandai more sale and made gunpla-fan, including me, more happy.
I mean I'm still getting this anyways. Yah I figured this was a giant brick and that the water slides would be difficult to put on due to it's design. But hey even though it's a giant brick, can't be any worse than some loose kits I made.
I still think it's odd that this was chosen for the "200th celebration", but I remain in the boat that it should've been the G-Self, hell even with the Perfect pact would've been awesome.
for me this kit is the best choice for someone like to do painting, weathering or making it more like a metal or real gundam....in future ill buy this thing just for paint, put some metal part and make some custom on this kit and just wanna display it, it should be very great..
Think I'll pool a bit more cash and go for the PG Exia Lighting instead... Love the fact the 303E exists in MG now, but I've already got the fix figuration to scratch that particular itch.
Speaking of that, “bigger kits are mostly bricks,” part; are PGs worth it if I want to have in dynamic poses? If there is a PG that can do dynamic posing what is it?
Common comments: "I wish bandai made this a p-bandai so that -insert kit- was normal release. I don't want these fans happy, I want MYSELF to be happy!!"
ZakuAurelius it is the exact same model except i dont think u build it from small pieces, it comes like an action figure, it is called fix figuration deep striker, sorry idk anything about these models, i just thought it looked really cool and this model is a newer version i think
yeah the older one is called fix figuration deep striker , its not a model kit though, its an action figure with moving parts that include all the same parts as this model, i believe that one has more detail u can tell on the tanks, this one has no detail but the other one has lines on the tanks
i made a version of my own Gundam based on this one , i called it ”ARXDSS-73 Gundam Bagralus Deep Sea Striker" edit: i forgot about it's used on at great deeps of ocean or space , but can be used on land , but the pack has to be removed
what is your twitch channel? id love to watch and try to learn some tricks to nub removal. it takes me 5 times longer on a piece to snip it, shave it closer, exacto knife it flat, then sand with 4 different sponges. (4k, 6k, 8k, and 10k to polish.) it looks good, but takes forever so if theres a tip anyone has for cutting some of the time off, im all ears :). but yeah... can you put twitch link in description?
Nothing about this kit screams the $200 price tag it has. It should've been a p-bandai. It's barely even a master grade. For this kit to have that pricing, it should've been perfect, no flaws, and been able to switch back to the ex.. it's basically an RE kit. Genuinely asking what reason does anybody have for buying this? Should've had this be the P-Bandai, and the Woundwort be the regular release. Hell, even make some of the other P-Bandai kits they saw people wanting into regular releases to cover the price of making this fancy brick~
Hmmm wonder what Hajime Katoki thinks about this kit?.. it looks like, to me, they didnt finish the re100 version of this kit, and they just slapped it on the mg S gundam and called it a day.
Sure its expensive, sure its a brick, sure it doesn't have a million water slides like other kits. But there are little to no kits that can bask in the glory of this shit on a shelf. It stands out more than anything.
This kit is definitely overpriced, considering the amount of plastic we get. The price of old MG Ex-S is only 8000 yen, and it gives us 31 runners (including the polycap), while this kit gives us 39 runners (including the polycap) for 20000 yen. Math said it's double the price for each runner, and I don't see too much improvement in the engineering aspect. For what it's worth, I'll say 15000 yen should be its maximum price tag.
why barbatos? there are tions of MS that deserves a good modern 1/100 mg if not RE kit. Like the Alex nt-1, Nemo, sumo/gold sumo, Masurao, ReGZ, and Age-3
This was clearly a p- bandai kit brought to the regular release market at P-bandai price. If this was a from the ground up kit that had loads of detail and extra gimmicks I could justify the cost but for what it is I can't really justify paying 200 for 2001 tooled kit.
First, p-Bandai prices are usually exactly what you’d expect if the kit was retail, the extra cost comes from the proxy sellers. So even if this was premium it would have cost the same either way. Second, what extra gimmicks could/should they have included? Third, I wouldn’t call it a retooled kit from 2001. As you could see in the review most of the old pieces are hidden from view and don’t negatively effect the kit at all. That said, I agree it could have been done better, with better part separation in the Cannon and maybe a new beam smart gun.
ZakuAurelius In terms of gimmicks and features they could have included LED's, effect parts, and options to configure the deep striker in the hummingbird configuration or have it in normal EX-S gundam variation. Also chrome or metallic parts could have really made the out pop. I don't disagree with you but it's possible that this is an earlier project that they just dusted off to sell. Kind of like what they did with MG The-O due to the prevalent seamlines and general construction from what I can see or bandai was just really lazy and intended to sell this as P-bandai and then decided to make it a retail release.
Oh this was definitely originally intended to be p-Bandai, I’ve had that confirmed to me. But I still think you’re just expecting too much. It’s really rare for MGs to come with anything more than MAYBE one LED. Effect parts are usually an add-on, or non-existent. I agree they could have squeezed in a couple more gimmicks here and there, but it really wouldn’t have been anything too interesting (like the shoulder armor sliding gimmick). The price does seem like a lot, but it just comes down to the amount of plastic in the box~ and there’s a lot of it.
I have the EX-S Gundam and a lot of other brick kits collection that I have lined up so I'm looking forward to this kit. Not gonna worry about getting about it just yet since it is a normal release but still I think it's a good thing as the middleman price for this kit would've been ridiculous.
I'd want to see what what the business division of Bandai was thinking with this kit. It's in this weird place where everything about it seems like a P-Bandai kit, except for decals, and yet it's a mass release. It's even a niche design from a photo novel thing making this all doubly weird. You did confirm it was a brick, albeit a pretty nice brick, but it's still a brick with a lot of extra parts. It'd look awesome with some work and a Metal Gear Rex theme though.
I bought 2 p bandai kits and yea they are not that jazzy ... I real want this kit but for some reason I feel a bootleg is coming soon I'll just pay half price why not haha
